We present a design and simulation results of an integrated circuit dedicated to recording and detection of a broad range of biomedical signals. The chip is designed in a 180nm CMOS technology and occupies 1.5×1.5 mm~2. It consists of 8 channels responsible for amplification, filtration, and detection of biomedical signals. Main parameters of the single recording channel such as a voltage gain, frequency band, voltage offset, and a threshold detection, are controlled independently by on-chip digital registers. The single recording channel is supplied from ±0.9 V and consumes about 8 μW of power.

There are many types of bio-signals with various control application prospects. In this work possible control application domain of electroencephalographic signal obtained from an easily available, inexpensive EEG headset - Emotiv EPOC was presented. This work also involved application of an embedded system platform. That solution caused limits in choosing an appropriate signal processing method, as embedded platforms characterise with a little efficiency and low computing power. Potential implementation of the embedded platform enables to extend the possible future application of the proposed BCI. It also gives more flexibility, as the platform is able to simulate various environments. In this work traditional, statistical methods were neither used nor described.

In this paper a hardware implementation of the state-of-the-art PBAS (Pixel-Based Adaptive Segmenter) foreground object detection algorithm in FPGA is presented. This background modelling and subtraction technique is using novel ideas which improve the detection results. In this work a research is presented that determines which parts of the original algorithm need to be adjusted and modified to allow hardware implementation. A comparison is presented how this modifications influence the results accuracy compared to the original software implementation and other algorithms. An example working system based on the proposed module using the evaluation board with Virtex 7 device is also presented. This is the first reported FPGA implementation of this algorithm.
