In most control systems the best quality of control can be achieved if an exact model of a plant is known and if disturbances-free and continuous (instead of discrete) measurements of all its state space variables are available. Since it is seldom the case in real-life installations, state observers, adapting (parameters identification) algorithms, anti-noise filters and continuous signal estimators must be often employed. The paper describes an application of the moving horizon estimation (MHE) and continuous state estimation from discrete output measurements (CSE-DOM) based method to a laboratory hydraulic three-tank system. The resulting algorithm encompasses all the four above-mentioned mechanisms (state observation, parameters identification, disturbances filtration and continuous state estimation) and can be used for nonlinear systems as well, which is the case in the presented article. The paper provides a detailed explanation of how the MHE and CSEDOM methods were adapted to be applicable to the three-tank system. Results of computer simulations and practical laboratory experiments are also included.

Today many industrial facilities have a lot of industrial control software systems used in various ways. These systems work in all kinds of architectures, starting from the simple "one application on one computer attached to a process" to more complex systems such as client-server- database, multi-tier applications, etc. Being provided by different vendors, there is a problem of managing the applications, developed using various technologies and running on different environments, implying administration problems and many security aspects. The information is spread into many places, this making it difficult to have a global view on the enterprise's resources. The solution is to have a single software system which to provide functionality for all the enterprise, into a unified manner. Our distributed software applications architecture comes to deal with the problems presented above. The system has three main levels of application: (1) The data source, having two main parts: software applications that communicate with the equipment and a connector to the system. (2) The server, gathering all the data from the data sources, processing and storing it into the database. (3) The client applications, including the interface of the system with the user. The technology used for developing this system is Web-oriented.

The paper presents some practical considerations and experimental results obtained by the exploitation of a tram that has an electric driving system with an improved technological solution. One presents the technological solution using chopper that substitutes the initial accelerators of the tram. Some aspects concerning the operation in running and respectively in braking regimes in the new configuration (including the regenerative braking regime) are discussed. Some considerations with respect to the electromagnetic compatibility problems and modalities to improve it are made. The recordings of the current and voltage waveforms, during the normal running stage, when the tram climbs a ramp and respectively goes down on a slope are presented and explained. The experimental determinations revealed that the system was designed correctly, in order to support all the operational conditions that could appear in its exploitation.

This paper describes the design and simulations of reference low power current/voltage source in CMOS 0.35m technology. Idea of the circuit is based on bandgap reference. Two voltages with different temperature coefficients are added resulting with near zero coefficient of output voltage. With use of Howlland current source the reference current is produced. In range of temperatures from -200 °C to 800 °C current changes by 0.25 % whereas voltage changes by 0.03 %. Circuit is supplied with 3 V and consumes 460 μW of power. Circuit area is 0.11 mm2. One of the most accurate and commonly accepted methods for spectral analysis, i.e., estimation of frequency from samples of a signal, is Analytical Leakage Compensation, briefly called Analytical Solution (AS). The AS estimate is negligibly biased, but it is the whole class of solutions whose variance depends on a free parameter named K. Thus, an important step in AS algorithm is calculation of optimal K_(opt), which selects the minimum variance solution from theoretically infinite set. The original paper [11] provides complete set of needed formulae, and here a few other relations are discussed, which can be used to further reduce the variance, if properly applied according to the specified criterion.

Storage of energy is one of the main problem of contemporary technology. Currently used manners of the energy store are listed below: (1) the magnetic accumulator - the energy is kept in the magnetic field of superconductive inductor, (2) the accumulator with super capacitors. The low voltage (1,6-2,5 V) is the fault of this one,(3) the accumulator with lead-acid or alkaline accumulator. The fault of this solution is very low charging and discharging efficiency, (4) the electromechanical accumulator. Flywheels store energy mechanically in the form of kinetic energy. In this article the flywheel energy storage will be described precisely and compared with other energy storage technologies.

This paper proposes a new method for real-time distributed image acquisition through wireless networks of traffic monitoring cameras. The goal is to provide comprehensive image acquisition in the presence of dynamic disturbances, which obstruct the field of view (FOV) of the cameras. The paper presents a collaborative online algorithm, which (upon FOV loss) identifies an optimized set of cameras that must be turned on to cover the FOV loss. The set is found using a novel cost function, also discussed in the paper. Experimental results are offered to illustrate the effectiveness of the method in recovering the lost FOV.

While data could be discrete and continuous (defined as ordinal numerical features), some classifiers, like Naive Bayes (NB), work only with or may perform better with the discrete data. We focus on NB due to its popularity and linear training time. We investigate the impact of eight discretization algorithms (Equal Width, Equal Frequency, Maximum Entropy, IEM, CADD, CAIM, MODL, and CACC) on the classification with NB and two modern semi-NB classifiers, LBR and *** comprehensive empirical study indicates that unsupervised discretization algorithms are the fastest while among the supervised algorithms the fastest is maximum entropy, followed by CAIM and IEM. The CAIM and MODL discretizers generate the lowest and the highest number of discrete values, *** compare the time to build the classification model and classification accuracy when using raw and discretized data. We show that discretization helps to improve the classification with the NB when compared with flexible NB which models continuous features using Gaussian kernels. The AODE classifier obtains on average the best accuracy, while the best performing setup includes discretization with IEM and classification with AODE. The runner-up setups include CAIM and CACC coupled with AODE and CAIM and IEM coupled with LBR. IEM and CAIM are shown to provide statistically significant improvements across all considered datasets for LBR and AODE classifiers when compared with using NB on the continuous data. We also show that the improved accuracy comes at the trade-off of substantially increased runtime.

We report on the performance of a low noise and high count rate readout ASIC with binary architecture and energy window section for X-ray imaging applications using semiconductor detectors. The ASIC called RG64 is designed in 0.35 μm CMOS process and its total area is 3900×5000 μm 2 . The core of RG64 consists of 64 readout channels. Each channel is built of a charge sensitive amplifier with a second order shaper of peaking time 75 ns, two independent discriminators with an 8-bit offset correction circuit and two independent 20-bit counters with RAM memory buffers. The ENC of the circuit reaches the value of about 126 el. rms with 1 pF input load and 5 mW power consumption per single channel. The mean gain in the multichannel ASIC is about 50 μV/el., with the dispersion from channel to channel of 0.9 %. The deviation of the effective threshold voltage spread for given energy can be set below 7 el. rms (calculated to CSA input). High count rate measurements have been performed up to 2 Mcps of average rate of input pulses, both for AC and DC coupling silicon strip detectors with the X-ray photons of energy 8.04 keV. The RG64 can operate both in the continuous readout mode and in the readout mode separate from exposure.

The paper presents the authors' experiences in the creation of the applications for simulation of the electromechanical systems and estimation of their mathematical models' parameters. For more than twenty years the problem of simulation and identification of the electrical machines parameters was a subject of investigation in the Chair of Electromechanical Systems and Industrial Electronic of faculty of Electrical engineering, automatics and computer Science in Opole University of Technology [1]-[9]. In the paper the methods used on the stage of creating of the applications and exemplary results of the calculations will be briefly presented. Additionally - according to the subject of the Conference: computer as a tool - some proposals of the advanced, and in a way untypical use of the selected free computer tools will be described.
