Tuning of controller is one of the most basic functions in control engineering in obtaining optimal control parameters and hence achieving optimal dynamic responses of the system. The work presents the self-Tuning PI controller that potential to auto-Tune the controller parameters and adapting the changes in controlled process parameter for a MIMO system. The decentralized PI controller with an adaptive interaction algorithm is developed and tested to nonlinear multivariable wastewater treatment plant. It is aims to self-Tune the PI control parameters in regulating the substrate and DO concentrations from a steady state operating point. It was observed that the proposed control structure and the tuning algorithm were successfully tracks the desired set-point with considerable effects in noisy environment. © 2012 IEEE.

In this study, parallel connection of separate voltage sources has been realized using cuk converters. For this aim, output voltages of converters are measured continuously and then fixed to a reference value. The PWM signals which are required to control the converters and to sense the current and voltage signals are generated by an FPGA. Since the FPGA has parallel processing feature, voltage and current data of the system are measured at the same time. Thus, the converters are connected in parallel punctually and load sharing between them are provided in order to eliminate some undesired cases like unbalanced loading. In the system realized, two identical cuk converters are used. As cuk converters can operate both in buck and boost modes, output voltages are fixed to the reference voltage successfully, even though input voltages are low or high. Experimental results show that the system achieved operates with a reasonable efficiency ranging from 81% to 88%.

Electrocardiogram (ECG) signal has biomedical signs showing the working activity of the heart muscle by human body. Being able to take these biomedical signs from human body is important for diagnosis. Although there are a lot of Independent Component Analysis (ICA) algorithms that separate ECG signals from noises in the literature, separation qualities of them depend on initial conditions. The aim of this study is to find an ICA algorithm giving the stable separation quality for different initial conditions. Experimental results show that Kernel Independent Component Analysis algorithm (KICA) provides more accurate and stable results than the other algorithms.

Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithms with multiple autonomous robots have received considerable attention in recent years. In general, SLAM algorithms use odometry information and measurements from exteroceptive sensors of robots. The accuracy of these measurements and the performance of the corresponding SLAM algorithm directly affect the overall success of the system. This paper presents comparative performance evaluations of three Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithms using Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), Compressed Extended Kalman Filter (CEKF) and Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF). Specifically, it focuses on their SLAM performances and processing time requirements. To show the effect of CPU power on the processing time of SLAM algorithms, two notebooks and a netbook with different specifications have been used. Comparative simulation results show that processing time requirements are consistent with the computational complexities of SLAM algorithms. The results we obtained are consistent with the CPU power tests of independent organizations and show that higher processing power decreases processing time accordingly. The results also show that CEKF is more suitable for outdoor SLAM applications where there are a lot of natural and artificial features.

Solar radiation prediction has a great importance in electricity generation from solar energy and helps to size photovoltaic power systems. Therefore, the solar radiation parameter was predicted at 10-min intervals in this study. Outside temperature, outside humidity and barometric pressure parameters were used as meteorological input variables by the developed k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) classifier. On the one hand, it is mined that solar radiation prediction was affected by the number of nearest neighbors, the dimension of input parameters and the type of distance metrics. On the other hand, it is shown that the k-NN classifier which uses Euclidean distance metric for k=4 in 3-dimensional input space outperformed the other models in terms of the prediction accuracy. Adversely, the k-NN classifier which only uses barometric pressure input provided the weakest prediction performance for k=15 in Euclidean distance metric.

Wind speed forecasting is required for ensuring an efficient utilization of the wind power generated by wind turbines. This paper purposes the short-term wind speed forecasting in a 2-dimesional input space using the developed k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) classifier. As well, the effects of the nearest neighbor number and the selected distance metric on the wind speed forecasting were analyzed and many useful inferences were mined in order to minimize the forecasting error. The results have shown that the k-NN classifier which uses wind direction and relative humidity parameters achieved the best forecasting results for k=10 in the Minkowski distance metric. On the other hand, the k-NN classifier which uses wind direction and atmosphere pressure parameters gave the worst forecasting results for k=1 in the Euclidean distance metric.

A low cost hardware platform consisting of a measurement system, a communication system and a data processing system is presented. Wired and wireless sensors are developed for supporting motor current signature analysis (MCSA), vibration signature analysis (VSA) and operational temperature monitoring. A "plug and play" software application is implemented for allowing remote computers to share this sensor data using OPC technology. Using Matlab as an OPC client, time-domain and frequency-domain signal processing techniques are used in order to determine the signatures associated with faults of locally or remote operating electrical machines. © 2011 IEEE.

Driving frequency, amplitude and phase difference of two-phase sinusoidal voltages are the input parameters which have influence on speed stability of travelling wave ultrasonic motors (TWUSMs).These parameters are also time-varying due to the variations in operating temperature. In addition, a complete mathematical model of the TWUSM has not been derived yet. Owing to these reasons, a machine learning approach is required for determining the compatibility of operating parameters related to speed stability of TWUSMs. For this purpose, an intelligent decision support tool has been designed for TWUSMs in this study. The input parameters such as driving frequency, amplitude, phase difference of two-phase sinusoidal voltages and operating temperature were evaluated by the k-nearest neighbor algorithm in the decision support tool. The results have shown that the proposed tool provides effective results in the compatibility determination of operating parameters related to speed stability of TWUSMs. © 2011 IEEE.
