This study proposes an approach to enhance the contrast breast ultrasound (BUS) images with the preservation of the finer details. The main idea is to use the relevant and most important features in the classification of BUS images as benign or malignant. Among the contrast manipulation techniques, both linear under- and overexposure methods, contrast limiting adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE) method and homomorphic filtering are used. The gradient maps of original images are generated for further analysis. Also, the gradient maps of original images are improved by the local mean subtraction and divisive normalization. Eight structural features are extracted from each gradient map image type. The extracted features feed a Random Forest (RF) classifier to determine their relevance for BUS images classification. An accuracy of 97.12% has been obtained for improved gradient map images and 93.03% for gradient map images. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper proposes a novel circuit model of a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) device. The model is designed to accurately represent the behavior of a WSN device operating in a duty cycle, capturing the essential characteristics of its components, including the microcontroller, sensor, transceiver, and power supply. The proposed model incorporates static and dynamic power consumption aspects, reflecting the energy usage patterns during various operational states such as sensing, processing, and communication. The model's accuracy is validated through a comparative analysis with a LTspice® implementation and a real mote implemented for this study. Simulation results closely match the empirical data, demonstrating the model's effectiveness in predicting the mote's behavior. This approach provides a valuable tool for optimizing power consumption and extending the lifetime of WSN deployments within a simulation environment, offering significant insights for designers and researchers in this field. © 2024 The Authors

A combination between the information extracted for both right iris and left iris could increase the efficacy of the biometric recognition systems. In this paper, we propose a biometric identification method based on density of image patterns extracted from human iris images and the combination and comparison of the right iris and the left iris characteristics. The density of the patters approach for processed images can be a new biometric feature used to implement a biometric recognition system with high performance when a small feature dimension is used. In this way, we can maximize the retention of the effective biometric information. The experiments were conducted on the MMU Iris Database containing 225 images of the left eye and 225 images of the right eye. Two morphological Top-hat and Hit or Miss transforms were implemented to find out the particular pattern of pixels. They allow for the enhancement of detail in images. Then, a statistical feature extraction technique is employed to derive the density of the patterns in morphological transformed images. To assess the density of the patterns differences between the right and left iris data groups, the Pearson's correlation coefficient (PCC) is computed. We reported very good results with a PCC of 0.6164 (strong and positive correlation) for Top-hat morphological operation whilst the Hit or Miss transform returns a PCC of 0.0127 so there is no relationship between the density of the patterns in the right and left irises. © 2024 Institute of Physics Publishing. Road traffic fatalities and injuries remain a major global health and development challenge. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) global status report on road safety (2023), the number of road traffic fatalities has decreased slightly to 1.19 million per year, indicating that efforts to improve road safety are effective. Driver behaviour is known to be the main cause of traffic accidents. Drivers' behaviours such as steering, braking and acceleration are behaviours that have important effects on traffic. In this study, eco-safe driving behaviours of drivers were studied with the data obtained through in-vehicle sensor data of 16 drivers. In the experimental studies, vehicle parameters were obtained via On-board Diagnostics (OBD) interface on a driving route determined in Düzce province of Türkiye. In the literature, eco driving and safe driving have been studied separately. In this study, a new methodology is proposed to consider eco driving and safe driving together. The proposed methodology is developed with data labelling technique based on fuzzy logic approach. Through this process, drivers' eco-safe driving behaviours were classified into five different categories. After the eco-safe driving index was obtained with fuzzy logic, MLP (Multilayer Perceptron), Ensemble Learning and SVM (Support Vector Machine) were used to predict the driving behaviour of the drivers. In the experimental studies, both the accuracy of data labelling with fuzzy logic has been demonstrated and the performance of the proposed approach has been considered acceptable. © 2024, The Authors. The phenomenon of separation into constituent layers connecting the core and laminate of a composite sandwich complex is a vital complication that leads to early failure of such material. The direction of the sandwich construction's exfoliation rigidity is increased between interlaminar low fiber augmentation. The bioinspired technique of hybrid material layers was used on an aluminium face sheet with an interlayer composition of PET foam core and glass fabric of a material that appears to have greater potential as a flimsy substitute for materials currently used in automotive, aeronautical, and marine applications. This examination seeks to develop the making of such material along the retardation in fibre supplements. Fibre bridging has been recognized as an important appliance in the progress of this operating procedure. Consequently, this method points to promoting the event of fibre bridging by differing aggregates, including the mass and extent of augmented fibres and the quantity of epoxy resin applied. A few advancements were made to the production methods, and though the outcomes for the resisting ability of specimens were found to be indecisive, it was found that the layer separation hardness had even improved. This was confirmed through the operation of scanning electron microscopy and also predicted the mechanically peeled material surfaces which identified the adhesive strength variations with respect to the face sheet surface modified with the sand blasting process. The analysis also revealed the need for further research into optimizing the attachment between aluminium sheet and pet foam and glass fabric based hybrid sandwich panels. © 2023 Deepak Sampathkumar et al.

The paper presents a family of novel light blob shape descriptors for use in selected active safety algorithms used in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). One of the motivations was to obtain a descriptor that would ensure low computational complexity. This makes it easy to implement both in software and hardware. One assumption is that the location of the center of a given light spot is approximately known. The principle of its operation is then to count white pixels in selected directions, starting from this central point. A key issue here is an efficient way of determining indexes of particular pixels belonging to the image patch, as well as the location of points representing places where the white area turns into black. In the case of a hardware implementation, this can be done using a parallel circuit operating in asynchronous mode, without the need for a control clock.

The process of fish breeding is extensively applied in fish farms and it is influenced by either environmental factors (in case of natural reproduction) and by the use of exogenous hormones (in case of artificial reproduction). Reproducing some species under controlled conditions without hormonal preparations is not possible. Many hormonal agents have been previously described in the scientific literature as beneficial in the fish breeding process. The effectiveness of these agents varies. This paper reviews some of the basic hormonal substances and describes the results of artificial reproduction. The most frequently encountered substances that give the best results are: Carp pituitary homogenate (CPH), Ovopel and Ovaprim. It can be concluded that in order to ensure the success of reproduction, the doses applied are particularly important, as well as the way of administration of the agent. © 2022 IEEE.

The paper proposes a conceptual model for the evaluation of the triad academic responsibility - quality of service - student satisfaction at University 'Dunǎrea de Jos' in Galati, Romania in the context of online learning on the Microsoft Teams platform and MOODLE. Starting from the concept of corporate social responsibility (Corporate Social Responsibility -CSR) the concept of academic social responsibility was derived, including the responsibility of universities in terms of teaching, but also the one related to the social and economic context of student training. The new model attempts to express the relation that should exist between the quality of service, the academic responsibility and student satisfaction and support for the university brand, either by his return to university, for lifelong learning, or by-promoting the university. © 2021 IEEE.
