In Industry 5.0, the workers' well-being is the central pillar. Therefore, research on methods and technics to improve the workers' user experience in a human-robot collaborative environment is necessary. While the effects of dynamic variables, such as speed and acceleration, on human safety have been extensively studied, their impact on human perception has not been fully explored. This study investigates the effects of the robot's speed and acceleration on humans. An experimental research approach was used, where 20 participants (10 women and 10 men) performed an assembly task collaborating with a robot. Two experiments were defined, and the participants were evenly distributed: in the first experiment, the participants started by performing the task at a slow robot speed and then performed the same task at a faster speed. In the second experiment, the other half followed the opposite procedure. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), physiological values (via EEG and GSR), and perceptual values (using the standardised UEQ-S questionnaire) were collected. The results showed that the robot's speed and acceleration impact the task's completion time and participants' emotional responses. Our results lead to a new concept, "HRI speed bell", which indicates that it is necessary to investigate the optimal speed and acceleration to ensure good trust and perceived safety. Furthermore, the task sequence also influences participants' expectations and performance. Finally, gender-differentiated results were also observed. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The article presents the issue of scale deposits in sanitary installations. Scale contributes to improper operation of sanitary devices and leads to their degradation. Scale build-up in pipes and measuring elements results in higher water consumption due to inaccurate estimation of this resource consumption. The consequence is that devices based on process automation do not work properly due to disturbances in the actual water flow. The formation of deposits also leads to economic and ecological losses, as sanitary installations elements have to be replaced, which affects the increased use of raw materials and the generation of waste. This is not in line with current trends and global objectives related to circular economy. Scale also results in increased energy consumption and reduced energy efficiency. This is due to the resistance of the flows and the increased work of the pumps. Scale has insulating properties, which results in less efficient heat transfer. In this stady, a mathematical model was developed to detect the formation of scale deposits in sanitary installations. On this basis, it is possible to control the quality status of sanitary installation components. In this way, by taking appropriate action at an early stage of the formation of deposits, it can extend the life of the installation. Having information on scale deposits, it will help avoid wasting water and lead to more accurate measurement of water flows. This is important for the proper operation of devices such as heat pumps, where their operation is automated and requires precise measurements of the energy processes taking place. Scale is a significant problem for households, and also for factories or public institutions that are exposed to hard water environments. © 2021 International Multidisciplinary Scientific Geoconference. This paper aims to achieve an optimization of the variables that represent the violation time of limit concentration for the main effluent quality parameters in a simulated wastewater treatment plant WWTP. The main effluent quality parameters considered are Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand, Total nitrate (N tot ), ammonium nitrogen (S NH ), and Total Suspended Solids (TSS). A custom control strategy was also considered to obtain a better performance of the simulated WWTP. In order to generate the database, several Monte Carlo simulations were performed. In this way, the global minimum points were determined, and a method for aligning the obtained global minimum points was proposed.

Drone-based predictive structure analysis is a rapidly growing field that has the potential to revolutionize infrastructure and building inspection. In this review of the research, we give a general overview of how drones could increase the effectiveness and precision of structural analysis, particularly for keeping an eye on difficult-to-reach locations. The usage of drones for 3D mapping, inspection, and monitoring of diverse constructions, such as concrete buildings, bridges, tunnels, and dams. The investigations show that drone-based inspection can produce 3D models and high-resolution photos, allowing for remote monitoring and the early identification of possible problems. The findings show that drones may greatly boost infrastructure management's safety and effectiveness, making them an important tool for predictive structural research.

In software-defined networks(SDNs),controller placement is a critical factor in the design and planning for the future Internet of Things(IoT),telecommunication,and satellite communication *** research has concentrated largely on factors such as reliability,latency,controller capacity,propagation delay,and energy ***,SDNs are vulnerable to distributed denial of service(DDoS)attacks that interfere with legitimate use of the *** ever-increasing frequency of DDoS attacks has made it necessary to consider them in network design,especially in critical applications such as military,health care,and financial services networks requiring high *** propose a mathematical model for planning the deployment of SDN smart backup controllers(SBCs)to preserve service in the presence of DDoS *** a number of input parameters,our model has two distinct ***,it determines the optimal number of primary controllers to place at specific locations or nodes under normal operating ***,it recommends an optimal number of smart backup controllers for use with different levels of DDoS *** goal of the model is to improve resistance to DDoS attacks while optimizing the overall cost based on the *** simulated results demonstrate that the model is useful in planning for SDN reliability in the presence of DDoS attacks while managing the overall cost.

Breast cancer is one of the most common causes of death among women, and early diagnosis is vital for reducing the fatality rate. This study evaluates the most widely used machine-learning breast cancer prediction and diagnosis methods. We use synthetic minority over-sampling to handle imbalanced data in the breast cancer diagnosis dataset obtained from the Wisconsin Machine Learning Repository. We use a variety of machine learning algorithms, including Logistic Regression (LR), Support Vector Machine (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbours (KNN), Classification and Regression Tree (CART), Naive Bayes (NB), and well-known ensembles methods like Majority-Voting, eXtreme Gradient Boosting algorithm (XGBoost), and Random Forest (RF) for the breast cancer classification. The findings show that the Majority-Voting ensemble method, built on the top three classifiers (LR, SVM, and CART), outperforms all other individual classifiers and offers the highest accuracy of 99.3%. © 2023 The Author(s)

Power transformer diagnostics and condition assessment are essential measures to increase the transformer's lifetime. In this regard, the dissolved gas analysis (DGA), the most common method worldwide in predicting the incipient faults in the transformer, is applied. Recently, the optical spectroscopy methods have attracted most of the attention towards effective monitoring of the state of power transformer insulation. Therefore, in this paper, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was employed to discriminate between the electrical and thermal faults that frequently happen in oil insulation. Regarding the electrical fault, it was simulated by applying repeated high voltage impulses to a fresh oil sample while the thermal fault was imitated through a localized overheating in another fresh oil sample with the help of a heating coil. Firstly, the two samples were examined via FTIR spectroscopy to obtain their FTIR spectra. Then, the effect of ageing on the spectrum was studied comprehensively for determining the degree of deterioration as well as any change that happen in the concentration or structure of the oil molecules. After that, both of them were analyzed by DGA to measure the concentration of the dissolved gases in the oil in order to confirm the FTIR spectroscopy results. In the final analysis, it was obvious that the implementation of the optical method is considered a promising tool to monitor the faulted oil and distinguish between the electrical fault and the thermal one making the FTIR spectroscopy a superior alternative for DGA.

Diagnosis of most ophthalmic conditions, such as diabetic retinopathy, generally relies on an effective analysis of retinal blood vessels. Techniques that depend solely on the visual observation of clinicians can be tedious and prone to numerous errors. In this article, we propose a semi-supervised automated approach for segmenting blood vessels in retinal color images. Our method effectively combines some classical filters with a Generalized Linear Model (GLM). We first apply the Curvelet Transform along with the Contrast-Limited Histogram Adaptive Equalization (CLAHE) technique to significantly enhance the contrast of vessels in the retinal image during the preprocessing phase. We then use Gabor transform to extract features from the enhanced image. For retinal vasculature identification, we use a GLM learning model with a simple link identity function. Binarization is then performed using an automatic optimal threshold based on the maximum Youden index. A morphological cleaning operation is applied to remove isolated or unwanted segments from the final segmented image. The proposed model is evaluated using statistical parameters on images from three publicly available databases. We achieve average accuracies of 0.9593, 0.9553 and 0.9643, with Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analysis yielding Area Under Curve (AUC) values of 0.9722, 0.9682 and 0.9767 for the CHASE_DB1, STARE and DRIVE databases, respectively. Compared to some of the best results from similar approaches published recently, our results exceed their performance on several datasets. © 2024 The Authors

In recent years, the transition to the digital world offers users several conveniences, to use, process, store, and transmit their data. In addition, the rapid and continuous evolution of image acquisition systems has allowed a tremendous growth in the use of digital images. Indeed, digitization is a double-edged sword; it offers several benefits on the one hand and poses security problems on the other hand. For this reason, it is mandatory to design digital image protection systems against illegal manipulation. In recent decades, digital tattooing, a brilliant technique proposed to address several aspects of security. The principle of this technique is to implement a digital signal called watermark in another digital signal called host signal (text, image, audio, video…). In this context, our work aims to propose novel digital image watermarking approaches based on wavelets and DCT for the copyright protection of medical images. The proposed methods will allow optimizing the two contradictory demands of watermarking: imperceptibility and robustness.

This article presents a study on determining the optimal reference values for two proportional-integral (PI) type controllers taking also into account the impact on a simulated wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). In this regard, we considered a predictive control algorithm for a distributed model, which includes correlation between subsystems. Additionally, we have taken into consideration the comparative testing of two interpolation methods for the purpose of dynamically generating reference points, applied on Benchmark Simulation Model No.2 (BSM2) with an implemented control strategy. This allowed us to determine the global minimum points and propose a method for aligning the global minimum points obtained for both cost functions.
