In the recent years, many heuristic optimization algorithms have been developed. A majority of these heuristic algorithms have been derived from the behavior of biological or physical systems in nature. In this paper, we propose a new optimization algorithm based on competitive behavior of animal groups. In the proposed algorithm, the whole population is divided into a number of groups. In each group, the best searching agent spreads its children in its owned territory. Any group which is not able to find rich resources will be eliminated form competition. The competition gradually results in an increase in population of wealthy group which gives a fast convergence to proposed optimization algorithm. In the following, after a detailed explanation of the algorithm and pseudo code, we compare it to other existing algorithms, including genetics and particle swarm optimizations. Applying the proposed algorithm on various benchmark cost functions, shows faster and superior results compared to other optimization algorithms.

The design and analysis of some algorithms for the implementation of supervisors corresponding to centralized systems using Petri networks is approached in this article. Starting from the basis of supervised control, namely, monitoring and controlling of discrete event systems via a central controller (supervisor), the paper proposes a method for supervised control using Petri net type models based on parallel composition of subsystems. To illustrate and validate the proposed method, a flexible manufacturing system based on a transport system with seven nodes is used.

This paper describes open loop control measures for performance improvements of electrostatic micromirrors in context with foveation scanning for 3D time-of-flight cameras. The generation of high accuracy scanning trajectories with scene dependent variable slope is realized by a flatness-based open loop control scheme. Previous flatness-based control solutions have shown unfavorable residual oscillations excited at slope reverse points and high drive currents at zero-crossing comb deflection due to square-root voltage law for electrostatic mirror control. Jerk limited trajectories are introduced for reduction of residual oscillations and their impact on scanning trajectory properties is expressed by design formulas. A considerable reduction of zero-crossing drive currents can be achieved by using a dual-comb control law at small deflection angles reducing the effective drive voltage slope. The paper addresses the basic micromirror models and describes in detail the jerk and current limitation control measures in context with the flatness-based control concept. Experimental results prove the adequacy of the proposed solutions.

The application based on P2P technology is one of the most important application of the Internet, but it is often affected by the node failure or abnormal nodes exit. In P2P network, node failure can cause data loss and invalid index, then reduce QoS (Quality of Service) of P2P network, lead to reputation system crashes and so on. Therefore the P2P node failure handling and recovery method can effectively prevent and deal with the mentioned negative influence. Above these problems are very important to improve the robustness and QoS of P2P network. This paper first introduces the background and the causes of node failure of P2P network. Second, we review the main progresses of node failure prediction, node data recovery, super-node selection and routing node algorithm etc. dealing with node failure handling in recent year. Finally, some challenging research problem in the future work is discussed. © 2014 IEEE.

We report about the results of the application of modern computer algebra tools for construction of directed strongly regular graphs. The suggested techniques are based on the investigation of noncommutative association schemes and Cayley graphs over non-Abelian groups. We demonstrate examples of directed strongly regular graphs for 28 different parameter sets, for which the existence of a corresponding digraph has not been known before. © 2014 Springer International Publishing.

The increased traffic flow on both existing highways and city roads leads to the appearance of stop-and-go waves which have many disadvantages, e.g., increased risk of accidents, higher fuel consumption, increased pollution, increased wear of vehicle mechanical parts, driving stress and passenger discomfort. The platooning of vehicles could be the solution to this problem by enforcing them to follow each other and to maintain a safe distance between them. The advantages brought by this solution depend on ensuring the string stability of the vehicle platoon. In this paper the leader-follower system is employed to illustrate the stop-and-go waves mitigation. Several controllers (P, PI) were designed based on the conditions that have to be met in order to ensure the string stability of the vehicle platoon and comparisons were made with a controller based on the driver behavior.

In this paper, we consider the asymptotic stabilization of a class of one dimensional boundary controlled port Hamiltonian systems by an immersion/reduction approach and the use of Casimir invariants. We first extend existing results on asymptotic stability of linear infinite dimensional systems controlled at their boundary to the case of stable Port Hamiltonian controllers including some physical constraints as clamping. Then the relation between structural invariants, namely Casimir functions, and the controller structure is computed. The Casimirs are employed in the selection of the controllers Hamiltonian to shape the total energy function of the closed loop system and introduce a minimum in the desired equilibrium configuration. The approach is illustrated on the model of a micro manipulation process with partial-actuation on one side of the spatial domain. © IFAC.
