The paper analyzes the potential influence of a rectifier fully controlled with thyristors (RFCT) over some components of a power group with static switching. Problems related to the active power flows in distorting and/or non-symmetric regime are briefly presented. Also there are revealed issues related to the influence of non-linear and/or non-symmetric receivers of active powers over the active powers flows along power non-symmetric components when superior harmonics are considered. One presents a complete system with static excitation from a power group. The supplying is made from the power group's main generator terminals, through a power transformer and a RFCT. The electric quantities were recorded with data acquisition systems (DAS) specially designed and made for this application. Based on the acquired recordings one used an original dedicated software based on Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) that allowed the determination of some power quality parameters and the calculation/displaying of (re)active powers' components for each phase and respectively for the significant harmonics (whose weights are over 1%) at the RFCT's input. Analyzing the results one could conclude that the RFCT behaves like a "power converter" for the harmonic and/or non-symmetric powers. An influence of harmonic and non-symmetric powers over some components of the power group could be noticed as well. Experiments certified that these influences result into the shortening of some components' lifetimes, owing to the power flows along the superior harmonics and non-symmetric powers.

The article is about hardware and software systems, dedicated for word intelligibility of speech scoring. Following characteristics for procedure and equipment for word intelligibility of speech scoring are reviewed: width of frequency range, which is analyzed, its' frequency partition (bandpass filter choice), measured values' dynamic range, measurements' accuracy. Experiment was performed in order to determine the frequency range width required for analysis. According to experiment results optimal width of frequency range, required for correct discrete word intelligibility valuing, was chosen. Frequency range partitioning was researched. Partitioning is suggested to be rendered correspondingly to human acoustic organ sensitivity. Requirements of choice measuring equipment are suggested. Structural configuration of software and hardware systems are given, including alternative ADC mountings, uses of logarithmic preamp, analogue or software bandpass filter.

The long-term hemispheric variation of the flare index is investigated. It is found that, (1) the phase difference of the flare index between the northern and southern hemispheres is about 6-7 months, which is near the time delay between flare activity and sunspot activity; (2) both the dominant and phase-leading hemisphere of the flare index is the northern hemisphere in the considered time interval, implying that the hemispheric asynchrony of solar activity has a close connection with the N-S asymmetry of solar activity.

Based on a grid concept of an interactive hybrid online laboratory we will describe different fields of applications in different learning scenarios. The infrastructure is based on a universal grid concept which guaranties a reliable, flexible as well as robust usage of this online lab. By using the REAL online lab, students are able to design control algorithms with different specification techniques to control electro-mechanical models in the online lab. Additionally, the reconfigurable rapid prototyping platform of the REAL system can be used to test all the taught topics of a given lectures in the field of digital system design. Finally, a special demonstration platform (a ball in a labyrinth on a balance plate) can be used to give the students a better feeling about the possibilities and limitations of remote control and observation via Internet and to evaluate these technologies critically. The implemented online lab infrastructure is based on the iLab architecture of the MIT, which allows to interconnect online labs and to exchange remote lab experiments among different universities worldwide.

Modern software frameworks for Model-Based Systems engineering (MBSE) methodologies are proprietary and commonly restricts to a poor choice of domain specific languages. Furthermore, the interoperablity and model interchange support between frameworks is a technically hard challenge. The industrial strength standard OMG MOF (Meta-Object Facility) is a solid approach for the definition of domain specific languages. Applying meta-modeling techniques to existing modeling and simulation frameworks reduces obscurity of proprietarity and implicitely language characteristics. On the other hand, standard compliance improves product openness/transparency, reliability and confidence as for primary modes of operation. This paper presents a methodology to incorporate methods of meta-modeling and standard compliant domain specific languages in an existing modeling and simulation framework. First results are emerged and exemplified for an effective modeling dialect called MML (MLDesigner Modeling Language). Future prospects reviews already accomplished goals in this project, address several alternatives and improvements and gives an overview of ongoing development.

Analysis and validation using simulation is a helpful tool in systems engineering, but requires in-depth knowledge of various aspects of the system itself, the used model class(es), an appropriate software tool, and sometimes software engineering. Usually, this expertise is spread over a number of team members, and thus the development of a simulation-based system design tool is not a simple task. This paper presents a framework enabling the rapid development of extensible and reusable simulation-based applications. It supports an agile, iterative, evolutionary, and architecture-centric software development process. The design of the framework together with its components as well as the corresponding software development process is described. As an example, an environment for the configuration and analysis of wireless sensor network applications in the aeronautic domain is presented, which has been designed and implemented based on the proposed environment.

In this paper we propose a stability augmentation system for a quadrotor, enabling direct rate control for a human pilot. Our system includes feedforward for rate control, feedback for disturbance attenuation, and an online optimization technique for handling input restrictions. We show that the proposed algorithms are able to stabilize the system under highly challenging flight conditions, such as wind gusts and fast manual descend. Our input restriction technique ensures that the revolution speeds for the desired torques are feasible. The complete control system is analyzed using MATLAB, and full experimental validation is provided based on a quadrotor prototype.
