Ultrasound scanning system is a non ionizing technique for breast mammography. Unfortunately, ultrasound has not approved by FDA as a screening tool yet due to the lack of spatial resolution and high operator dependent. Therefore, the quality of imaging depends on the operator technique and experience. The purpose of this project is to develop an automated 2D motion system for ultrasound scanning designed for breast cancer patient. The scanning was performed by automated movement of a transducer during image acquisition. Therefore, the automated motion system needs a very high precision of position control system which integrated with a microcontroller and two appropriate distance sensors on each axis. Besides, graphical user interface has been designed to interface between the microcontroller and personal computer. The control method for the automated motion system can achieve a resolution of 2mm. This is used to replace the conventional handholding ultrasound probe and to increase the spatial resolution of ultrasound.

The current ultrasound therapy machines are implementing continuous waveform, which in fact, is not an optimum technique for therapy treatment process. Apparently, pulse waveform appearing as a more effectively way of signal generation in terms of its power consumption, low cost hardware and short timing used. In order to overcome these drawbacks of conventional therapy machines, we proposed a programmable pulse generator for pulse waveform production with high frequency more than 1MHz through Cyclone 2 Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) development board. The generator is developed with maximum controllable 10 number of burst and clock frequency 50MHz. Register Transfer Level designs with Very-High-Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language (VHDL) coding are also implemented throughout this project. Pin assignment was used to assign the pin connection in FPGA for linkage of input and output data of FPGA. The result of generated waveforms were observed using oscilloscope. Based on the findings, the developed programmable FPGA is able to produce high frequency signal effectively and accurately.

Conventional Canny edge detector can detect edges in image with additive noise effectively but not ultrasound image that are corrupted by multiplicative speckle noise which alleviates image resolution resulting in inaccurate characterization of object features. In this paper, we proposed to incorporate the modified SRAD into the Canny edge detector to replace the Gaussian blurring in the conventional Canny edge detector in order to suppress the multiplicative noise effectively while preserving the edge of the object in ultrasound image. The result shows that the proposed method can provide better result than conventional method in a much wider range of parameter values. The proposed method through experimental result indicates that it is capable of producing promising edge detection result in ultrasound image.

Ultrasound medical imaging is widely used nowadays in clinical application due to its intuitive, convenient, safety, non-invasive, and low cost. However, ultrasound image formation always comes with speckle-noise which will greatly reduce the image quality, and makes the identification and analysis of image detail become more challenging. Hence, we present an extended robust diffusion algorithm for optimum diffusion while retain the edge of image features. Total eight spreading diffusion directions are implemented in the proposed algorithm. Finding showed that this method is able to provide consistent and more objective results.

Routing resources are the major bottlenecks in improving the performance and power consumption of the current FPGAs. Recently reported researches have shown that carbon nanotube field effect transistors(CNFETs) have considerable potentials for improving the delay and power consumption of the modern FPGAs. In this paper, hybrid CNFET-CMOS architecture is presented for FPGAs and then this architecture is evaluated to be used in modern FPGAs. In addition, we have designed and parameterized the CNFET-based FPGA switches and calibrated them for being utilized in FPGAs at 45 nm, 22 nm and 16 nm technology *** results show that the CNFET-based FPGA switches improve the current FPGAs in terms of performance, power consumption and immunity to process and temperature variations. Simulation results and analyses also demonstrate that the performance of the FPGAs is improved about 30%, on average and the average and leakage power consumptions are reduced more than 6% and 98% respectively when the CNFET switches are used instead of MOSFET FPGA switches. Moreover, this technique leads to more than 20.31%smaller area. It is worth mentioning that the advantages of CNFET-based FPGAs are more considerable when the size of FPGAs grows and also when the technology node becomes smaller.

Abstract Error propagation analysis is an important part of a system development process. This paper addresses a model based analysis of spreading of data errors through mechatronic systems. Error propagation models for such kind of systems must use an abstraction level, which allows the proper mapping of the mutual interaction of heterogeneous system elements such as software, hardware and physical parts. A number of appropriate approaches have been introduced in recent years. The majority of them are based only on a data flow analysis. It is shown in this paper that for a complete picture the system control flow has to be considered as well. A new approach based on probabilistic control flow and data flow graphs is presented. The structures of the graphs can be derived systematically from an UML/SysML model of a system. The knowledge about an operational system profile allows the definition of additional system properties. Initially this model was developed for software errors localization. This paper shows its applicability to the error propagation analysis of an entire mechatronic system. The paper presents the modeling concept, the complete mapping process and application of the model for error localization. A reference robot control example demonstrates the main modeling steps.
