The current paper presents a unified lumped parameter modeling approach for deriving generic analytical system models of reciprocal electromechanical (mechatronic) transducers for various physical working principles (e.g. electrostatic, piezoelectric, electromagnetic, electrodynamic). Starting from constitutive physical relations representing natural laws, the model hierarchy comprises energy based nonlinear EULER-LAGRANGE behavior models, linearized electromechanical two-port models forming constitutive transducer equations and MIMO transfer function models describing the causality based signal flow behavior to be used for control system design and analysis purposes. It is shown that the models describe in a generic way the unified behavior of reciprocal transducers under different operating conditions, e.g. voltage vs. current control. Moreover the models allow in a straightforward way the generic discussion, i.e. independent from the concrete physical working principle, of important transducer operational concepts such as impedance feedback or self-sensing. © 2010 IFAC.

This paper describes a position control of 2 degrees of freedom (DOF) XY Piezo Actuator Stage (XY PAS) with Feedforward Neural Network (FNN) and additional Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) approach, which is used as an improved learning method for optimizing the weights of FNN rather than just the standard technique of back-propagation of errors. XY PAS is fabricated by a photo structuring process from micro-structured photosensitive glass and two piezo actuators (PEAs), which are built-on to meet the request for its precise movement on the working plane with approximate dimensions 60 by 60 micrometres. It is evident from the simulation model of XY PAS, that accurate positional control is an exact piece of work. The FNN is used as adaptive feedforward controller describing the estimated inverse function of XY PAS for each reference position of XY PAS's tip. Due to the optimal control performance of FNN, the PSO is introduced in order to improve the learning method of FNN. A simulation model of the XY PAS and the proposed FNN control algorithm with PSO have been developed in Matlab/Simulink. The obtained results show quick convergence capability and a satisfactory global search. © 2010 IEEE.

We extend a 'surrogate problem' approach that is developed for a class of stochastic discrete optimization problems so as to tackle the global signal settings and traffic assignment combined problem. We compare a stochastic method based on the surrogate approach, called Surrogate Method (SM), with a Projected Gradient Algorithm (PGA), which uses the Armijo rule for the step size estimation routine. Numerical experiments conducted on a test network show that the surrogate method converges to a really small area and it finds much more efficient solutions. ©2010 IEEE.

In this paper we introduce an adaptive fuzzy neural network framework for classification of data stream using a partially supervised learning algorithm. The framework consists of an evolving granular neural network capable of processing nonstationary data streams using a one-pass incremental algorithm. The granular neural network evolves fuzzy hyperboxes and uses nullnorm based neurons to classify data. The learning algorithm performs structural and parametric adaptation whenever environment changes are reflected in input data. It needs no prior statistical knowledge about data and classes. Computational experiments show that the fuzzy granular neural network is robust against different types of concept drift, and is able to handle unlabeled examples efficiently. © 2010 IEEE.

Online social gaming is an emerging Internet application that combines online gaming and online social networking functionality for the benefit of millions of daily users. While researchers have investigated the structure of (social) networks for decades, the activity characteristics and the community structure of online social gaming remain relatively unknown. To address this situation, in this work we investigate the BBO Fans club for online bridge. First, we introduce a method to collect and analyze data from BBO Fans and its underlying gaming platform. Our method is novel in that it addresses the lack of a strict definition of social relationship between BBO Fans players, and it defines several player types with implications on community formation and operation. Second, we use the proposed method to collect and analyze a 40-day BBO Fans dataset comprising over 140,000 unique players and over 3,000,000 unique play sessions. T hird, we compare the characteristics of BBO Fans with other large social networking and online gaming applications. We find in particular that BBO Fans generates similar levels of activity as but has different community characteristics than similarly-sized games on FaceBook, the largest social network in the world.

Abstract This paper suggests a new stability analysis theorem dedicated to a class of fuzzy logic control systems. The fuzzy logic control systems consist of nonlinear Single Input-Single Output (SISO) discrete-time processes controlled by Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy logic controllers. The stability analysis is conducted on the basis of Lyapunov's direct method with quadratic Lyapunov function candidates. The theorem proves that if the derivative of the Lyapunov function candidate is negative definite in the active region of each fuzzy rule then the fuzzy logic control system will be asymptotically stable in the sense of Lyapunov. Sufficient stability conditions are offered. An example related to the design of a stable fuzzy logic control system for the discrete-time Lorenz chaotic system and simulation results are included.

This paper presents a practical implementation of a custom wireless access point with display module to view the communication and configuration parameters. For the display module we design a hierarchy menu system, with control buttons that enable the user to scroll to specific types of information and select between parameters. The display module is very useful for embedded systems with limited resources because it offers status information about connected users, ROMIRAM usage, IP address, connection types, transfer rates, bandwidth, etc. without the need to enter the configuration menu using web interface.

When analyzing the Radio Frequency Identification applications, one might think of two essential hierarchies: the structures aiming to offer security to an RFID system and the structures aiming to offer functionality means, with no security issues. One should know precisely the significance of these notions. Radio Frequency Identification represents an advanced wireless technology, which integrates an essential solution within the fields of intelligent chips and automation technologies. In this paper, four protocols based on updating the tags' identifiers by means of RFID readers will be compared, in order to carry out an analysis over the jeopardizing points that threaten the security and privacy of RFID systems. Cryptography signifies a way of creating RFID systems more secure. A chaotic matter is brought into discussion, by the following situations: to And out if it is a protocol of identification or authentication that is necessary, depending on various RFID applications or systems. Such analysis over RFID security has carried out wide thoughts. © 2010 IEEE.

This article proposes a new approach in modeling the detection/diagnostic functions using PN. It assumes knowledge of the evolution of successive degradation states of the monitored system. Using the logical model, corresponding to the change in system degradation state, hierarchical levels are identified, corresponding to the successive external events with which this model is synchronized. A dedicated hierarchical structure is constructed, capable to repeatedly carry out a fixed defect detection scheme. Each hierarchical level executes this action in temporal windows which are progressively increased. The proposed structure allows the detection function to be rerun on a hierarchical level by preserving information from the previous level. This is the recurrent aspect of the paper. The present proposal is a refined modeling of the detection function because it leads to the identification of temporal windows in which a given degradation state might appear. For modeling the recurrent aspect, between hierarchical levels there is an information subsystem based and LIFO and OOPN (Object Oriented Petri Nets). The present paper enhances similar approaches of the authors, carried out through the recurrent modeling of the monitoring function. © 2010 IEEE.

Due to the complexity of modern distributed power generation, a conventional automation system is not always capable to provide sufficient information, so intelligent control approaches are requiring. This paper is concerned with intelligent control technologies applied to distributed power generation network. Precisely it presents a fuzzy controller based control solution, developed with Matlab that allows the implementation of different renewable energy resources (RES) in a distributed power energy network (PD) and ensures a greater stability. © 2010 IEEE.
