The paper tackles the problem of managing uncertainties during the execution of predictive schedules in a dynamic environment. The dynamic environment in question is represented by a simulation model - connected to a production scheduler system - with flexible modelling capabilities. The paper addresses the simulation module of the proposed architecture highlighting its main functionalities and advantages, compared to former simulation-based solutions. By applying the proposed architecture (using both the proactive and reactive operation modes), the solution methods for stability-oriented rescheduling can be profoundly tested and analyzed. The evaluation of selected scenarios of the timing of rescheduling, rescheduling threshold and human resource management techniques are presented through an industrial case-study.

The discussion on the possibility of machines to achieve semiosis (meaning process) is a very controversial debate within artificial intelligence and cognitive science. In this work, we define meaning process in an entirely mathematical framework. We call the "transposition" of the Peircean theory to an abstract mathematical model as "mathematical semiosis". By doing this, we aim at growing a more understandable theory for explaining what is to mean, in a strictly mathematical sense, avoiding complications related to the connection of signs to a real world. The main application of such a theory would be in order to develop machines with these capabilities. In such a regard, what we are calling here "mathematical semiosis" would be a kind of purely mathematical abstraction for what is "semiosis" in the real world.

Based on the modified Hodgkin-Huxley (HH) model exposed to extremely low frequency (ELF) electric field, we study Hopf and saddle-node bifurcations of the modified HH model in two dimensional parameter space of externally applied DC current and trans-membrane voltage induced by external DC electric field. The bifurcation sets are calculated by employing the generalized algebra criterion in high dimensional system. The obtained bifurcation sets partition the two dimensional parameter space in terms of the qualitatively different behaviors of the HH model. Thus the neuron's information encodes the stimulus information, and vice versa, which is significant in neuron control. The study is of some biological significance and suggest that the aberration of dynamics in bio-systems may account for diseases caused by electric exposure.

We propose a MPEG-2 compliant decoder which uses data hiding to transmit additional data with no extra bandwidth while creating an almost imperceptible degradation of the picture. The additional data can be anything from subtitles to correction signals and watermarking.
