In many business process modelling situations using Petri nets, the resulting model does not have a single input place and a single output place. Therefore, the correctness of the model cannot be assessed within the existing frameworks, which are devised for workflow nets - a particular class of Petri nets with a single input place and a single output place. Moreover, the existing approaches for tackling this problem are rather simplistic and they do not work even for simple examples. This paper shows that, by an appropriate reduction of a multiple input/multiple output Petri net, it is possible to use the existing techniques to check the correctness of the original process. The approach is demonstrated with an appropriate example.

Guidance through waypoints is common for small autonomous marine vehicles. Guidance by the line of sight, the basic waypoint guidance algorithm, is very simple, computationally inexpensive, and flexible to sudden changes in the desired path specification. On the other side, the basic algorithm achieves unoptimal vehicle trajectory, ignores possible side disturbances as sea currents, and can even lead to deadlock situations. Therefore it should be improved to use in the real world applications. This paper introduces several such improvements: missed waypoint detection to prevent deadlocks, novel reference heading correction method to give smoother vehicle path in turns at waypoints, and sea current compensation method to cancel its influence. This improvements address the mentioned flaws of the basic algorithm, as is demonstrated by the simulations, and yet keep it simpler than is the case for the most used waypoint-derived guidance methods.

Taking Shanghai Science and Technology Museum as the operation target, the robot named skycleaner which is totally actuated by pneumatic cylinders and is sucked to the glass walls with vacuum suckers is presented. In order to solve the problems of lower stiffness and the nonlinear movement characteristic of the pneumatic system, a method of segment and variable bang-bang controller is proposed to implement the accurate control of the position servo system using the principle of pneumatic pulse width-modulation (PWM). Testing results show that the controller can effectively improve the control quality. This implies that the method can meet the requirements of realization.

Non linear system identification and control design using adaptive wavelet network

This paper presents an application of wavelet networks in identification and control design for a class of non-linear dynamical systems. The technique of feedback linearization, supervisory control and H ∞ control are used to design an adaptive control law and also the parameters of the wavelet networks are adapted using a Lyapunov-based design. By some theorems, it will be proved that even in the presence of modelling errors, named network error, the stability of the overall identification scheme and the convergence of the network parameters and the boundedness of the state errors are guaranteed.

It is an available pattern to implement auto answer in RDAQAS (restricted-domain automatic question-answering system) through calculating the similarity of target question sentences and question sentences in question sentences corpus, and then finding the most similar question sentences, and retrieving the answer finally and all these are based on HowNet and domain ontology. This paper introduces the building of financial domain ontology and question sentences corpus, then proposes the method to calculate similarity of question sentences based on keyword vector space method and semantic concept vector space method. The procedure of realization is described in details. The learning algorithm and learning course of getting question sentence semantic vectors based on the maximum entropy model are also introduced in detail. Finally, the experimental comparing data illustrates that the similarity calculation method based on the semantic concept is more superior to that based on the keyword.

Improved line-of-sight guidance for cruising underwater vehicles

Guidance through waypoints is common for small autonomous marine vehicles. Guidance by the line of sight, which turns the vehicle directly towards the next waypoint without any reference path calculation, is computationally the simplest form of waypoint guidance. However, the basic algorithm gives rather poor guidance due to the missed waypoint problem, lack of sea current compensation and abrupt transitions between the consecutive waypoints. Significant path deviations and even deadlocks are possible due to these problems. Therefore, more complex algorithms are usually used in real world applications. The research reported in this paper aims to demonstrate that significant improvements of the basic line-of-sight guidance algorithm can be achieved by several intuitive, simple corrections and additions. The simplicity of the basic line-of-sight guidance algorithm is not compromised. In particular, missed waypoint detection is performed by monitoring the distance between the vehicle and the waypoint. Introduced reference heading corrections are based upon the location of the next waypoint after the one the vehicle is currently approaching, and upon the sea current direction and intensity. The results of these corrections are shown in several simulation examples. In addition, the paper includes a short discussion about the line-of-sight guidance in the diving plane.

In this paper new concepts of synchronous generator control using up-to-date digital systems are shown. For excitation and speed (active power) controls of synchronous generator same hardware and software support are used. In this concept the difference between excitation control and speed control is the control algorithm. This new concept of generator's control is used on the aggregate in hydro power station Vinodol (Croatia). For realization of this generator's control a digital system DIRES 21 is used. The CPU contains 4 digital signal processors ADMC 3000 (analog devices). Functions of the generator's control system are experimentally verified.

A systems re-engineering technique to integrated control and supervision for applications to industrial multi-zone furnaces has been elaborated by using known theories on generalized predictive control and nonlinear programming. This paper presents the derivation of optimizing equations and inequalities. The design is based on the use of general predictive control to provide optimized set-points under the presumption a well designed regulatory control was implemented at the executive level. Digital implementation of control functions are sought within standard computer process control platform for practical engineering and maintenance reasons.

We introduce some CNN and analogic feature extraction algorithms for artificial immune systems, which are able to convert grayscale or color to binary images storing as much information as possible for further processing. We define a statistical property called immune histogram based on sub-patterns of these images. Our results and measurements show that these algorithms can be implemented in real-time applications. A sample application, which detects new textures in a familiar environment, is also presented.

The interaction balance method (IBM) with fuzzy constraints is proposed for large-scale industrial processes under hierarchical steady-state optimization with the consideration of the model-reality difference and the constraints of subprocesses being flexible. In this approach, the models that are treated as equality constraints and the inequality constraints of the subprocesses are all fuzzified. Two cases of interaction balance method are studied: the open-loop IBM and the IBM with global feedback. Simulation results show that the solutions of the proposed method with global feedback are very close to the optimal solutions of the real process.
