This paper presents the current work on the development of a tool for remote control of mobile robots. The tool consists of a local controller on the robot side and a user interface for simulation and remote control that connects with the robot through the network. The user interface is implemented as an HTML page with a Java applet for remote control and communication and a virtual environment written in VRML for visualization. This way users have the ability to connect to a dedicated WWW server and download the user interface. This paper describes the concept of the tool design and the developed user interface.

The evolution of industrial systems makes the maintenance tasks more and more important. Encouraged by the requirements of industrial companies, we provide a solution to the problems of both industrial maintenance and enterprise integration by integrating industrial systems and field devices. With agent, Web and other technologies, e-maintenance and e-enterprise are becoming possible. E-maintenance is considered as one example of e-enterprise. A dynamic system model is constructed by extracting sources and targets, goals, and maintenance processes in terms of information flow between information nodes. An agent-based platform architecture seeks to integrate industrial systems in terms of e-maintenance, e.g., data acquisition systems, expert systems and business management systems.

Motion control and navigation via telecommunications networks as well as the control of other dynamical systems recently again came in the focus by a number of authors world-wide. It has been subject to extensive investigation because of remote motion control applications, and also because of the impact of random time delays caused by telecommunication networking, e.g., Internet. The most essential phenomenon in implementing remote control via Internet networking is that of a random, time varying pure time delay. In turn, this phenomenon gives rise to the issue of closed-loop stability which may cause control performance deterioration, and even instability brake down of such control systems. Within the limitations of using linear models of the dynamics of controlled object - remote motion control process in open-loop system, a through design analysis is feasible and has been elaborated in the course of our research. In order to ensure the system stability, the maximum expected time-delay phenomenon must be observed at design stage of the control system. Hence the main design conclusion is to ensure that system parameters be adjusted according to the maximum expected delay distributions always.

The paper presents an integrated production planner and job shop scheduler system with flexible modelling capabilities and powerful, scalable solution methods. The system generates close-to-optimal production and capacity plans on the medium term, and detailed production schedules on the short-term. However, the constraint-based, deterministic scheduling model can hardly account for all the uncertainties on the shop floor. Hence, we included such factors into a discrete-event simulation model that is applied to evaluate the robustness of schedules in face of various uncertainties

The wavelet transform is a comparatively new and fast developing method for analysing signals. The main advantage of applying the wavelet transform to the detection of edges in an image is the possibility of choosing the size of the details that are detected. The size of detected edges is set by the wavelet scale. In the case of the discrete wavelet transform the choice of the scale is performed by multiple signal passage through the wavelet filter. When processing a 2-D image, the wavelet analysis is performed separately for the horizontal and the vertical function. The vertical and the horizontal edges are thus detected separately. The wavelet transform splits the input signal into two components. One contains the low-frequency (LP) part of input signal, which corresponds to major changes in the function (individual objects in the image, etc.). The other part contains the high-frequency (HP) part of input signal, which corresponds to details in the function (noise, edges, etc.). This signal component is not processed on the next level of transformation.

Dynamic properties of a hybrid system are analyzed that has been developed to generate electric energy by utilizing alternative, renewable and waste energies. The solution is based on a system that consists of a high-speed turbine, coupled to a three-phase permanent magnet synchronous generator, an AC/AC converter and a supervisory control unit. The function of the system is to utilize the energy content of some working medium by a special turbine that converts the energy content of the working medium into electric energy by the generator and the AC/AC converter. The alternative renewable energy sources may include solar energy (direct solar steam system or solar energy with heat exchanger), geothermal energy (with or without heat exchanger) and energy obtained from biomass. Various waste energy sources can also be utilized by applying the system such as the energy that can be obtained during the process of pressure reduction in steam, gas and fluid networks. The electric power generated by the system can be fed back to the utility mains or it can be used in stand-alone mode to supply a selected group of loads. The paper analyses a novel control strategy and principle of the system to ensure optimum performance and economy by using a special solution for ensuring the power equilibrium in the combined mechanical-electric drive.

Traditional approaches to controller designs that guarantee fast compensation of load torque and reference variations result in design iterations and most of the time in poorer response for load torque variations. In this paper a reference model for desired drive behavior generation and optimization methods has been applied to achieve controller integral time constant lower than the maximum time constant of the PM brushless DC motor drive. Presented simulation results show that using reference model for desired drive behavior generation, it is possible to determine optimal controller parameters for faster (10 time) and better (2 time) load torque compensation than in the case of traditional design of speed controller parameters. Response due to reference input with constrained overshoot has been achieved using a filter in the servosystem input. Thereby, the proposed method demonstrates the design of a speed controller that is optimal for both load torque and reference variations and its verification with simulation are accomplished for a permanent magnet brushless dc motor drive.
