The ionosphere is the propagation medium for radio waves transmitted by an over-The-horizon radar (OTHR). Ionospheric parameters, typically, virtual ionospheric heights (VIHs), are required to perform coordinate registration for OTHR multitarget tracking and localization. The inaccuracy of ionospheric parameters has a significant deleterious effect on the target localization of OTHR. Therefore, to improve the localization accuracy of OTHR, it is important to develop accurate models and estimation methods of ionospheric parameters and the corresponding target tracking algorithms. In this paper, we consider the variation of the ionosphere with location and the spatial correlation of the ionosphere in OTHR target tracking. We use a Gaussian Markov random field (GMRF) to model the VIHs, providing a more accurate representation of the VIHs for OTHR target tracking. Based on expectation-conditional maximization and GMRF modeling of the VIHs, we propose a novel joint optimization solution, called ECM-GMRF, to perform target state estimation, multipath data association and VIHs estimation simultaneously. In ECM-GMRF, the measurements from both ionosondes and OTHR are exploited to estimate the VIHs, leading to a better estimation of the VIHs which improves the accuracy of data association and target state estimation, and vice versa. PID2018 Benchmark Challenge: learning feedforward control

The design and application of learning feedforward controllers (LFFC) for the one-staged refrigeration cycle model described in the PID2018 Benchmark Challenge is presented, and its effectiveness is evaluated. The control system consists of two components: 1) a preset PID component and 2) a learning feedforward component which is a function approximator that is adapted on the basis of the feedback signal. A B-spline network based LFFC and a low-pass filter based LFFC are designed to track the desired outlet temperature of evaporator secondary flux and the superheating degree of refrigerant at evaporator outlet. Encouraging simulation results are included. Qualitative and quantitative comparison results evaluations show that, with little effort, a high-performance control system can be obtained with this approach. Our initial simple attempt of low-pass filter based LFFC and B-spline network based LFFC give J=0.4902 and J=0.6536 relative to the decentralized PID controller, respectively. Besides, the initial attempt of a combination controller of our optimized PI controller and low-pass filter LFFC gives J=0.6947 relative to the multi-variable PID controller. © 2018

The conventional heart rate measurement techniques using electrocardiogram, wrist belts and so on, are attached with some disadvantages like discomfort, irritation of the skin and even more. From this starting point various video based heart rate measurement techniques were developed in the last years. All of these techniques use video data of the human faces to extract information to estimate the heart rate of the person in front of the camera. Most of them work with the detection of minimal changes in the color spectrum of the recorded video data. With these extracted information and multiple concluding steps, they are able to estimate the heart rate of the person sitting in front of the camera. All of these approaches have some big disadvantages, they are only able to measure the heart rate of one person - and in a small number of cases up to three persons. So the main objective of this work is to adapt and enhance existing research approaches of processing visual biological signals. The focus is set on the design and deployment of a new system, which is able to process visual data as well as detect and localize human faces by using artificial neural networks and calculate each individuals heart rate from the processed data's information. For the first time in this research area, different scenarios with more than three observed participants are being analyzed to calculate the heart rate for each of them separately. It will be shown that by using the applied technical architecture and technologies, it is possible to deploy a comparable and qualitatively competitive system. In addition, the implemented system proves the feasibility of processing various faces' signals and calculating the respective heart rates simultaneously within an acceptable range of tolerance.

Lead-free BaTi0.89Sn0.11O3 (BTSn) ceramic was elaborated via a solid-state reaction method and its dielectric, ferroelectric, energy storage, electromechanical as well as electrocaloric properties were investigated at 25 kV/cm. Pure perovskite structure was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. The maximum of the dielectric constant was found to be 17390 at 41 °C. The enhanced total energy density, the recovered energy density, and the energy storage efficiency of 92.7 mJ/cm3, 84.4 mJ/cm3, and 91.04%, respectively, were observed at 60 °C, whereas the highest storage efficiency of 95.87 % was obtained at 100 °C. At room temperature, the electromechanical strain and the large-signal piezoelectric coefficient reached a maximum of 0.07 % and 280 pm/V. The large electrocaloric effect of 0.71 K and the electrocaloric responsivity of 0.28 × 10-6 ***/kV at 49 °C under 25 kV/cm were indirectly calculated via Maxwell relation from the ferroelectric polarization P (T, E) that was determined from the P-E hysteresis loops. By exploiting the Landau-Ginzburg-Devonshire (LGD) phenomenological theory, the electrocaloric response was estimated to be of 0.61 K at 50 °C under 25 kV/cm. We conclude that BTSn lead-free ceramic is a promising candidate for potential applications in high-efficiency energy storage devices and solid-state refrigeration technology. © 2020, CC-BY.

Global deterioration of surface water quality was attributed to a pair of factors: human activities and natural processes, including hydrological variability, climate change, weather characteristics, and adjacent land use. The study of water quality in the contemporary era is a current issue. This paper presents an analysis of the variability of water quality parameters in a study developed on 4 years. In a number of 5 monitoring points, 18 water status parameters were monitored. Primary statistic methods were used and preliminary results are presented in this article, in order to assess the economic impact on medium and long term. This work highlights two major aspects: the first one is due to the fact that the site of research is the meeting point of the borders of three countries: Moldova, Ukraine and Romania. The second significant issue is caused by the fact that the study was conducted in the predeltaic area of the Danube Delta. This study was carried out over 4 years, and highlights the auto-filtering capacity of the Danube (River). © SGEM2018.

Epileptic focus localization is a critical factor for successful surgical therapy of resection of epileptogenic tissues. The key challenging problem of focus localization lies in the accurate classification of focal and non-focal intracranial electroencephalogram (iEEG). In this paper, we introduce a new method based on short time Fourier transform (STFT) and convolutional neural networks (CNN) to improve the classification accuracy. More specifically, STFT is employed to obtain the time-frequency spectrograms of iEEG signals, from which CNN is applied to extract features and perform classification. The time-frequency spectrograms are normalized with Z-score normalization before putting into this network. Experimental results show that our method is able to differentiate the focal from non-focal iEEG signals with an average classification accuracy of 91.8%. © 2019, IFIP International Federation for Information Processing.

Background: Systems Medicine is a novel approach to medicine, that is, an interdisciplinary field that considers the human body as a system, composed of multiple parts and of complex relationships at multiple levels, and further integrated into an environment. Exploring Systems Medicine implies understanding and combining concepts coming from diametral different fields, including medicine, biology, statistics, modeling and simulation, and data science. Such heterogeneity leads to semantic issues, which may slow down implementation and fruitful interaction between these highly diverse fields. Methods: In this review, we collect and explain more than100 terms related to Systems Medicine. These include both modeling and data science terms and basic systems medicine terms, along with some synthetic definitions, examples of applications, and lists of relevant references. The removing of multiple reflections from a curved interface at the common-source seismogram

The proposed simplified version of the original solution for the actual problem of removing multiple reflections from a curved interface at common-source seismogram is suggested. The solution to this problem is complicated in the framework of the approach based on using a reflected wave's hodograph. The proposed solution is based on the analytical expression for describing a reflecting interface structural form. The expression is obtained using the location algorithm based on solving only direct kinematic seismic problems. There is an analytical expression; one can calculate the propagation paths of the multiple reflections and its arrival times at the receivers of the observation base. If a seismic wavelet is detected in a limited range, including a multiple reflected wave arrival time, it is possible to remove the detected wavelet for eliminating its distorting effect to the direct reflected signal.

The development of complex systems holds various networking and combination opportunities with a corresponding number of desired and unwanted effects on system functions and/or human-machine interactions. Their vast number makes these effects difficult to control during development. The usage-perspective based approach we try to develop is intended to provide the primary starting point for deriving the necessary requirements for finding solutions for technical problems or realising existing ideas. The immersion into usage processes promises a reliable and holistic derivation of requirements for beneficial product solutions in early development phases. The multi-usage perspective approach will be made available to relevant innovation engineers in order to broaden their own perspective experience. It allows the analysis and synthesizing of specific structurated solution concepts (Innovateurship) which shall leads to implementable products in further steps of the development. This approach increases the appeal of the product as well as the productivity of the provider. © Springer International Publishing AG 2018.
