Working with an electric arc plasmatron, the technological process provides for the ignition of an electric arc. To simplify and accelerate the process of an electric arc ignition in a direct current electric arc plasmatron, a circuit solution based on a high-voltage electronic ignition system with an independent power source is proposed. The proposed scheme allows the formation of high-voltage high-frequency pulses in the arc interval. The proposed electrical complex provides reliable ignition and maintenance of stable combustion in all possible modes of operation of the electric arc plasmatron. Various ignition systems, an electric arc in an atmospheric environment are considered, as well as using plasma-forming gases.

We have considered the design of electric arc plasma installation, called plasmatron, with a vertical working chamber, enable the production of high-temperature plasma during the combustion of the plasma gas passing through the electric arc. The plasma torch is designed for utilization of carbon-containing wastes and slurries of processing industries. Famous electric arc plasma systems have some disadvantages, the main of which are the complexity of the design and the complexity of regulating the performance of the installation that produces plasma. The peculiarity of the proposed plasma torch is the effect of an external electromagnetic field on the arc. This allows the arc to be pulled out and out of the tubular housing. The equation describing the arc current change in dynamic modes is given. The experimental electric arc installation for plasma generation is considered, the results of experiments are analyzed. The role of the control and information-measuring system to ensure the normal operation of the installation is shown. © 2019 IEEE.

An effective approach to the calculation of volumetric models based on images of silhouettes in the object space is described. A method of forming the contours of a real object from a sequence of images is proposed. The construction of a bounding pyramid using the projection of the center and silhouette is shown. The intersection of all bounding pyramids determines the geometric representation of the object. Methods of obtaining information about the depth of the scene are proposed. A method of binocular stereo reconstruction of three-dimensional objects based on perturbation functions is proposed. In the method, interference is linear and requires linear compensation methods that are performed using the GPU by means of standard OpenGL. Defines the portion of the frame buffer (channel) in the GPU in which the image is output. Passive stereo uses two channels that process images intended for the left and right eye. Both channels handle a single main scene graph representing a user-defined model and attached to a root node (scene-root). Channels differ in the settings of the projection transformation (view-transform), which is determined by known parameters, such as the size and distance to the screen, the position of the user's point of view, stereo base and others, which are specified in the calibration file. The paper shows the advantages of the proposed method over the known approaches of reconstruction of three-dimensional models.

Object control requires the calculation of a regulator. One of the most effective methods for calculating the regulator is the method of numerical optimization of the regulator. This paper discusses the solution of the problem of controlling a linear object of the sixth order, the parameters of which are such that this high order significantly and negatively affects the possibilities of successfully managing this object. Using the traditional approach to the design problem of the controller (regulator) allows us to formally solve the problem;however, the result of this solution is not satisfactory. The use of additional derivation does not give any noticeable improvement. A solution to this problem is proposed by using pseudo-local feedback, moreover, this connection is supposedly most effective if it covers one of two identical links in the object model. This allows for a smoother attenuation of the frequency response of the object in the region where the action of these two links begins to affect. For pseudo-local communication, an additional PID controller is used, the coefficients of which are also determined by the method of numerical optimization. The optimization result allows us to conclude that the presence of an integral element in this controller is optional. The calculation result of such a composite controller meets the most stringent requirements for the quality of control, since in such a system the speed is increased at least twice, the oscillations, which were about 10% in amplitude, are completely eliminated, the robustness of the system is ensured, which is verified by changing all the controller coefficients by 5% up and down, and also by changing the time constant of the element of the pseudolocal loop by 10% up and down, changes in the transition process of the system in this case remain are acceptable. © 2019 IEEE.

Aerial coverage path planning is a type of path planning where the sensor footprint covers all accessible parts of the area of interest. This type of path planning finds application in precision agriculture, precision forestry and service robots. Limited endurance of micro aerial vehicles has limited their operations to small areas coverable in a single flight. New application domains like geological survey cover vast areas exceeding endurances of most modern aerial platforms and the available path planners do not address coverage of such areas. This paper presents an approach for generating coverage paths for large-scale aerial mapping. The planner applies voronoi partitioning to decompose large areas into manageable cells. Then generates boustrophedon paths to cover each cell. The proposed planner is incorporated into Mission Planner. Software in the loop simulation results have ascertained the feasibility and completeness of the generated paths, even with multiple micro aerial platforms. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

An unusual ferroelectric-like soft mode is discovered in terahertz spectra of dielectric permittivity of lead-substituted barium hexaferrite. The dynamics of the mode cannot be described either by Cochran or by Curie-Weiss equations. The obtained dependence of the soft mode parameters on lead concentration x(Pb) allows to suggest quantum phase transition at x(Pb)≈0.2.

Scientific discoveries often hinge on synthesizing decades of research, a task that potentially outstrips human information processing capacities. Large language models (LLMs) offer a solution. LLMs trained on the vast scientific literature could potentially integrate noisy yet interrelated findings to forecast novel results better than human experts. To evaluate this possibility, we created BrainBench, a forward-looking benchmark for predicting neuroscience results. We find that LLMs surpass experts in predicting experimental outcomes. BrainGPT, an LLM we tuned on the neuroscience literature, performed better yet. Like human experts, when LLMs were confident in their predictions, they were more likely to be correct, which presages a future where humans and LLMs team together to make discoveries. Our approach is not neuroscience-specific and is transferable to other knowledge-intensive endeavors. © 2024, CC BY.
