The paper is focused on modeling, processing, evaluating and refining processes with humans involved like (not only, but also e-) learning. A formerly developed concept called storyboarding has been applied at Tokyo Denki University (TDU) to model the various ways to study at this university. Along with this storyboard, we developed a Data Mining Technology to estimate success chances of curricula. Here, we introduce a learner profiling concept that represents the students' individual properties, talents and preferences personalized data mining.

Dynamic GTS Scheduling of Periodic Skippable Slots in IEEE 802.15.4 Wireless Sensor Networks

The IEEE 802.15.4 standard offers a flexible communication solution for low-rate wireless small area networks. When the beacon mode is enabled, real-time communication is possible by using the Guaranteed Time Slots (GTS) mechanism. However, the beacon-enabled mode only supports a maximum of seven GTS allocated in each superframe, preventing other nodes to benefit from the guaranteed service. This paper introduces the SIGHT (Skips In GTS scHeduling for IEEE 802.15.4 neTworks) model, which incorporates a dynamic GTS allocation policy for IEEE 802.15.4 networks based on the (m,k)-firm task model. Our approach ensures that at least m messages are allocated in a guaranteed slot, for any k consecutive superframes. It adopts a deterministic schedulability test and an on-line prioritization heuristic algorithm called Slotted DBP (Distance Based Priority) to attend requests according to this schedulability model. A simulation model has been developed, in order to compare the behaviour in overload conditions of the proposed Slotted DBP with other approaches (DWCS and FIFO).

Web mining has become an important field of research. However, there is an important challenge to applying the technique to NLP applications. An integrated data mining system for NLP in Chinese Commercial Web Sites is presented in this paper. It presented the data mining process in detail. More importantly, it puts forward a new enhanced method to Acquire User Preferences. Web mining applied to NLP provides a scientific basis for ebusiness and decision-making.

The Web is catalyzing a transition from PC-based software and file systems to Internet-based applications and Web services. We aim at the combination of multimedia computing and Web technologies (Web Services) together that supports uniform naming, protection, and access for Multimedia Content objects stored by Web services to accomplish distributed computing. At a high level, it creates an integrated file and object system from heterogeneous, multimedia content objects dispersed across the Internet. Based on this fact, we proposed a novel framework of distributed multimedia computing in this paper. In this framework, the concept of workflow which can describe business processes logically is introduced. Some experiments show the effectiveness of the proposed framework.

An infrared alcohol testing system based on differential absorption is presented. The technique relies on the fact that the breath alcohol gas has a unique, well-defined absorption characteristic within the infrared region of electromagnetic spectrum. It is used to detect the present and concentration of alcohol gas. The non-dispersive infrared gas detection principle is introduced in detail. Experiments show that the testing system has high precision, good environment adaptability, and its indication error and repeatability reach the China National Standards.

Motivated from real world problems, like object categorization, we study a particular mixed-norm regularization for Multiple Kernel Learning (MKL). It is assumed that the given set of kernels are grouped into distinct components where each component is crucial for the learning task at hand. The formulation hence employs l∞ regularization for promoting combinations at the component level and l1 regularization for promoting sparsity among kernels in each component. While previous attempts have formulated this as a non-convex problem, the formulation given here is an instance of non-smooth convex optimization problem which admits an efficient Mirror-Descent (MD) based procedure. The MD procedure optimizes over product of simplexes, which is not a well-studied case in literature. Results on real-world datasets show that the new MKL formulation is well-suited for object categorization tasks and that the MD based algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art MKL solvers like simpleMKL in terms of computational effort.

PLC related applications are more complex as far as more components are involved. If some error occurs, diagnosis can take some time, but a logical procedure will shorten the time needed to locate the fault. The probability of failure of different parts of typical PLC systems shows that 95% of PLC systems are external faults and occur on plant items such as: sensors, actuators, transducers, limit switchers, and others. The possibility of determining the validity of the data gathered from all transducers of the control system assures a way of short time fault detection. Consequently, a fault-tolerant control system must be implemented using redundant structures, representing an alternative for malfunctioning element detection. This paper presents a method used to design and implement a control system based on redundant structures. A case study for the geothermal power plant at the University of Oradea was developed. The redundant structure considered was simulated using MathLab/Simulink and analyzed using different scenarios. Finally, a possible implementation of resulting control system structure is done using a programmable logical controller (PLC).

By casting off the direct restriction of topological structure, this paper presents another matching scheme between the input A * and the knowledge A rarr B based on the equivalence relation R on formulae set F(S) and the corresponding equivalence classification F(S)/R = { [A] R | A isin F(S)} therefore, obtains another algorithm of approximate reasoning - the IV-type R-algorithm. The paper presents the IV-type R-algorithm for the simple approximate reasoning model and the multiple approximate reasoning model in the frame of R-logic C R .

Semantic graphs derived from triplets with application in document summarization

Information nowadays has become more and more accessible, so much as to give birth to an information overload issue. Yet important decisions have to be made, depending on the available information. As it is impossible to read all the relevant content that helps one stay informed, a possible solution would be condensing data and obtaining the kernel of a text by automatically summarizing it. We present an approach to analyzing text and retrieving valuable information in the form of a semantic graph based on subject-verb-object triplets extracted from sentences. Once triplets have been generated, we apply several techniques in order to obtain the semantic graph of the document: co-reference and anaphora resolution of named entities and semantic normalization of triplets. Finally, we describe the automatic document summarization process starting from the semantic representation of the text. The experimental evaluation carried out step by step on several Reuters newswire articles shows a comparable performance of the proposed approach with other existing methodologies. For the assessment of the document summaries we utilize an automatic summarization evaluation package, so as to show a ranking of various summarizers.

Due to the geographical distribution, different cognitive capacity, and different domain competency of workers or learners, many misunderstandings can occur during Web based remote collaboration, leading to inefficient discussions and undesired results. To overcome these problems, a “Multimedia adaptive utilization” framework for dependable web based collaboration is proposed and evaluated. This assesses situations of remote users through fusing information of multiple biological sensors and the related contexts such as user profiles. Transmitting and using such information, the system adaptively supports Web based remote collaboration by stressing, warning, and presenting keywords/ summaries in multimedia. Then, effects of adaptive keyword/summary presentation are evaluated as to cognitive profiles of users such as short term memory capacity and associative learning skills when misunderstanding possibilities are estimated on the Web. These evaluations totally demonstrate the feasibility and usefulness of the proposed method.
