In university studies, there is a flexible but complicated learning system of subject offers, enrollment rules for particular subject combinations, and prerequisites to meet for taking particular subjects, which need to be matched with students' needs and desires. Students need assistance in the jungle of such learning opportunities and limitations at today's universities. To face this problem, we employed our formerly developed storyboard concept and used it to develop, maintain, and evaluate curricula. Storyboarding is based on the idea of formally representing, processing, evaluating and refining didactic knowledge. This concept is utilized to supplement an educational system called Dynamic Learning Needs Reflection System (DLNRS) of the School of Information Environment of Tokyo Denki University, Japan. Concretely speaking, didactic knowledge of DLNRS can be represented by storyboarding and used for supporting dynamic learning activities of students. Here, we introduce an additional benefit of the storyboard concept. By using data mining - like methods to evaluate storyboard paths, we are able to estimate success chances of storyboard paths. Based on such an evaluation we will be able to rate planned (future) paths and thus, to prevent students from failing by non-appropriate curricula. Moreover, besides the evaluation, the estimation can be used for computer enforced suggestions to complete a path towards optimal success chances.

An important amount of the Electric Power Generation (EPG) company costs is given by the maintenance costs. The implementation of a SCADA system in the hydropower plant enables the improvement of the maintenance, management and general control strategy. Based on the new and large possibilities of the SCADA-systems, the actual paper presents (in accord to the legal frame) the fundaments for the implementation of the Operational Management System (OMS) for the Hydro-electric Power Plant belonging to the general system of the Hydraulic Power Plant. The target of the OMS is to create a general Hydro-power Plant Dispatcher (HPD) for the whole chain of Hydroelectric Stations from the Somes-river (Ordean, 2005). The local Information Net of each Power Station (already in operation) is connected to the HPD in order to supervise the station operation, but also to control, directly through HPD, the equipment of the Hydro-electric station.

A typical duration of sags, according to some standards, is 10 (msec) to 1 (min). Although more process equipments accept these voltage disturbances without notable consequences, there are sensible electronic schemes affected by voltage sags. The actual paper analyses the power quality delivered to an important manufacturer which uses some “critical equipment― and emphasizes the connections between voltage disturbances and difficult events registered by manufacturers. Range queries are a very powerful tool in a wide range of data management systems and are vital to a multitude of applications. The hierarchy of structured overlay systems can be utilized in order to provide efficient techniques for processing them, resulting in the support of applications and techniques based on range queries in large-scale distributed information systems. But, due to the limited knowledge and the usually best-effort characteristics, deciding about the completeness of query results, e.g., getting an idea when a query is finished or what amount of results is still missing, is very challenging. There is not only an urgent need to provide this information to the user issuing queries, but also for implementing sophisticated and efficient processing techniques based on them. In this work, we propose a method for solving this task. We discuss the applicability and quality of our estimations, present an implementation and evaluation for the P-grid system and show how to adapt the technique to other overlays.

The author's goal within the present paper is to conceptualize the skills formation process for the high priority multidisciplinary domain of business informatics. A holistic approach for efficient synchronization between the Life Long Learning paradigm and learning organization concept involves in progressive educational stages as a set of common activities performed with the aim to assist national education system in meeting the going demand for knowledge workers of today's global economy. The big challenge with public education system is that the young graduates need a fairly long period (12 - 24 month) to take up and become fully productive in real-life working environment. The other major issue is that resources are scared anyway and the increasing demands of skilled workforce may be compensated by the deep cooperation between the public education system and a corporate (or a consortium) program. A clustering program, developed by University POLITEHNICA Bucharest and, respectively Oracle Romania is chosen as a case stud. In this paper a method to estimate the initial rotor position of the switched reluctance motor (SRM) at the stand still condition is proposed. The proposed method can be implemented by the simple microcontroller based system, and it is not necessary to know the magnetization curves. The impulse gate drive signal is applied and the winding current is detected and its approximate value is used for calculating the rotor position. The compensation method to reduce the estimation error thorough one cycle is also mentioned. The proposed method is implemented with the 6-stator-pole and 4- rotor-pole, 1.5 kW 3-phase switched reluctance motor.

In this paper a two-phase motor control with an AtMega8 microcontroller is presented. The energy efficiency of motor-driven products is increased by adding variable speed control using a microcontroller. In this way, the motor can be operated in a wide range of speed and the implemented power saving procedures increases energy efficiency of motor-driven product. The motor is controlled by two Sinus Weighted PWM signals, displaced 90 degree in phase, with variable frequency and amplitude. To achieve greater efficiency the motor is started at low speed and accelerated to the operational speed. Also, at the first start the real power is measured for each operating speed, allowing in this way to find out the most energy efficient speed. The motor will be operated at this speed as much as possible.

Robots are complex systems that require multidisciplinary approach to development. Hence, both research and production of a robotic system require a tool that would provide means for coordination between teams with different areas of expertise as well as the ability to integrate, simulate and debug the system in a comprehensive way. Also, with the growing popularity of service robotics, research and modeling of human-machine interaction gains the attention. From a simulation tool, it is expected to support the means for describing this interaction. For that purpose we are investigating the ML Designer TM , not just as a possible simulation tool, but also as a modeling and design paradigm. For verification purposes we will compare it against MATLAB Simulink TM . A pneumatic system will be modeled with both tools and a comparison will be performed.

This paper presents a project which uses software agents as means for more efficient monitoring, testing and diagnosis of a complex heterogeneous system – multiple hydroelectric power plants connected in a chain on a river. The agent system will be superimposed over the existing SCADA control and monitoring network and will increase performance, efficiency and stability in the existing system.
