Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease with complex management where treatment adherence is crucial for positive outcomes. Research indicates patient satisfaction is associated with patients’ propensity to follow medical recommendations and better treatment adherence. The paper investigated the main fears patients have when accessing medical care for diabetes in an ambulatory setting, as well as their suggestions for service improvement. This was done to contribute to a better understanding of patients’ perceptions regarding the medical care they receive, and the pain points they have in this regard. Healing pain points can lead to higher patient satisfaction. A questionnaire comprising two open questions regarding patients’ fears and suggestions for improvement was distributed in Romania. Demographic, medical, and attitudinal patient data were also collected. The study sample size was 324 respondents. Text analysis and crosstabulation were performed. Results indicated patients most feared a worsening condition and waiting times. Suggested improvements focused on reducing waiting times, increased access to resources, and better clinic facilities. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The article provides a theoretical analysis of the ultrahigh frequency (microwave) method of humidity measurement, discusses the problems of instrumentation of the method in question, and proposes a scheme of an experimental installation. Bulk cotton materials were selected as the objects of research. The electromagnetic wave radiation is analyzed during measurement and the evaluation of electrophysical characteristics requires the study of the functional dependence of the amplitude and phase shift on the mass ratio of humidity, mathematical models for various bulk cotton materials describing the joint effect of humidity, material density on the attenuation and phase shift of the passing wave are obtained. © 2023 IEEE.

Intertidal mudflats are among the most productive coastal ecosystems, largely because of the activity of the photosynthetic microbial community on the sediment surface, known as microphytobenthos (MPB). While the dynamics of MPB have been extensively studied in temperate estuaries, there is limited research in tropical estuaries. To address this knowledge gap, we investigated the spatio-temporal dynamics of MPB in the Nicoya Gulf (Costa Rica), one of the world's most productive tropical estuaries, using Sentinel-2 images at 10 m spatial resolution from 2018 to 2022. We used Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) values ranging from 0 to 0.4 to monitor MPB cover and growth rates (μNDVI, days−1). Analysis of data using Generalized Additive Models (GAM) showed that up to 62 % of the temporal variability in average MPB NDVI, peaking in late wet and early dry seasons (November–December), can be explained by years and months. The high temperatures and irradiance during the dry season (December to April) in the Nicoya estuary may inhibit MPB growth, contrasting with patterns observed in temperate estuaries. We observed higher MPB NDVI in the upper intertidal zone (mean sea level > 0.5 m) as usually occurs in temperate estuaries. This research highlights the importance of high-resolution satellite imagery for long-term monitoring of MPB dynamics in tropical tidal flats, offering a valuable tool for estimating ecosystem services provided by intertidal MPB, such as primary production, climate regulation, and nutrient cycling on a global scale. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

The paper deals with the problems of grain wounding requires large energy costs, requiring a multi-stage process of grain processing, installation and perfect and reliable automation systems for the storage and processing of raw materials, theoretical and experimental studies and the results of the use of the microwave method in measuring the moisture content of grain and grain materials. The method under consideration is based on the principle of selective absorption of microwave radiation energy by water in materials and its derivatives. By the degree of absorption of radiation, the concentration of moisture is judged. The paper investigates the amplitude and phase methods of the passing wave in free space. The influence of the elastic properties of the material under study on the electrical characteristics of the microwave wave, suggesting fundamentally new ways of measuring the attenuation and phase shift of the electromagnetic wave, including discrete conversion of the signal of the primary converter, which does not require rigid metrological support and the use of a phase shift, is substantiated. Information on the values of the thickness of the material is analyzed in order to correct the influence of this value, consisting of two parameters: the signal of the passing wave, the attenuation and phase shift which characterizes the humidity and the additional signal - the phase wave reflected from the front surface of the materials and carrying information about its thickness. © 2023 IEEE.

The wide acceptance of Recommender Systems (RS) among users for product and service suggestions has led to the proposal of multiple recommendation methods that have contributed to solving the problems presented by these systems. However, the focus on bias problems is much more limited. Some of the most successful and recent methods, such as Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), present problems of bias amplification and unfairness that need to be detected, measured, and addressed. In this study, an analysis of RS fairness is conducted, focusing on measuring unfairness toward protected groups, including gender and age. We quantify fairness disparities within these groups and evaluate recommendation quality for item lists using a metric based on Normalized Discounted Cumulative Gain (NDCG). Most bias assessment metrics in the literature are only valid for the rating prediction approach, but RS usually provide recommendations in the form of item lists. The metric for lists enhances the understanding of fairness dynamics in GNN-based RS, providing a more comprehensive perspective on the quality and equity of recommendations among different user groups. Software requirements are the need of the stakeholders which are identified during requirements elicitation process. There are different types of the software requirements like functional requirements, non-functional requirements, testing requirements, etc. After requirements elicitation process, a system may have hundreds or thousands of requirements;and during the development process it is not possible to implement all the software requirements because of the several limitations of an organization as well as the stakeholders. To develop the successful software product, the elicited software requirements must be prioritized before the development of software so that high ranked software requirements can be identified. Computation of the ranking values of the software requirements is a difficult task because it involves lot of computational steps like evaluation of software requirements, computation of group preferences from the individual preferences, computation of the ranking values after normalizing the preference matrices, etc. Among these steps, in this paper, we mainly focus on the evaluation of the software requirements using linguistic variables because in real life applications people use linguistic variables to specify their preferences on software requirements. The objective of this paper is to generate a dataset of 32 functional requirements after evaluating it on the basis of 3 non-functional requirements so that the generated dataset can be used as an input into the software requirements prioritization methods. The institute examination system is used as case study to explain the steps for the generation of the dataset. © 2020 IEEE.

This paper presents a Chance-constraint Programming approach for constructing maximum-margin classifiers which are robust to interval-valued uncertainty in training examples. The methodology ensures that uncertain examples are classified correctly with high probability by employing chance-constraints. The main contribution of the paper is to pose the resultant optimization problem as a Second Order Cone Program by using large deviation inequalities, due to *** from support and mean of the uncertain examples these Bernstein based relaxations make no further assumptions on the underlying uncertainty. Classifiers built using the proposed approach are less conservative, yield higher margins and hence are expected to generalize better than existing methods. Experimental results on synthetic and real-world datasets show that the proposed classifiers are better equipped to handle interval-valued uncertainty than state-of-the-art. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2009.

The Mongolian University of science and Technology collects information (data) related to teaching methods and learning environment using a brief questionnaire from each student each semester. The data collected via questionnaires should be used for analysis of education activities, as well as development of policy level measures directed to improve education quality and teaching methods. However, as was observed by teachers, there is still an insufficiency in development of collected data and actions taken based on the results. In order to conduct comparative study within the framework of this issue, one module was taught by the same teacher (Theoretical mechanics 2) and other three different subjects (Mathematics 1, Information Technology 1, Theoretical Mechanics 1) were chosen, which are selected by most of the students, and ultimately processed the results with the use of the SURE model of structure-based evaluation. In this article, a total of 66681 evaluation data were provided by students who completed general education courses, professional foundation courses and other specialized courses at three schools (School of Industrial Technology, School of Mechanical Engineering and Transportation, School of Information and Telecommunication Technology) under the MUST, and these data were processed with the use of evaluation model mentioned above and the results were compared with the outcomes of previous study. © 2021 IEEE.
