Efficient Restoration for Binary Neural Networks

Restoring the weight distribution, activation distribution, and gradient to the original full precision network data as much as possible can greatly improve the inference ability of the binary network. However, existing methods directly apply the restoration operation in forward propagation to binary data, and the gradient approximation functions for back-propagation are fixed or manually determined, resulting in the need for improvement in the restoration efficiency of binary networks. To address this problem, the efficient restoration method is investigated for binary neural networks. Firstly, a distribution recovery method for maximizing information entropy is proposed. By shifting the original full precision weight mean and scaling the modulus, the quantized binary weight directly has the characteristic of maximum distribution restoration. At the same time, a simple statistical translation and scaling factor is used to greatly improve the restoration efficiency of weight and activation. Furthermore, it is proposed a gradient function based on adaptive distribution approximation, which dynamically determines the update range of the current gradient in the P-percentile according to the actual distribution of the current full precision data. It adaptively changes the shape of the approximation function to efficiently update the gradient during the training process, thereby improving the convergence ability of the model. On the premise of ensuring the improvement of execution efficiency, theoretical analysis has confirmed that the method proposed in this paper can achieve maximum restoration of binary data. Compared with the existing advanced binary network models, the experimental results of our method show excellent performance, with a 60% and 67% reduction in computational time for the distribution restoration operation quantization of ResNet-18 and ResNet-20, respectively. An accuracy of 93.0% is achieved for VGG-Small binary quantization on the CIFAR-10 dataset

Visual inspection of dual-energy X-ray radiographic images of cabin baggage requires high performance, but is hindered by various challenges such as low target prevalence, variability in target visibility, possible presence of multiple targets, and security personnel fatigue and inattention. Artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, particularly deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs), have shown promise in improving the automatic detection of explosives, even with low-resolution radiographic images, especially in high baggage throughput scenarios. In this paper, we focus on the detection of detonators as components of improvised explosive devices. The proposed approach involves comparing two experiments implemented in a deep CNN architecture using TensorFlow and Keras libraries. In the first experiment, raw dual-energy radiographic images without any enhancement were used. The second experiment includes three methods for contrast enhancement and feature extraction: the Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) method, the wavelet transform-based method, and the mixed CLAHE RGB-Wavelet method. In the latter two methods, Haar, Db2, Coif2, and Sym2 mother wavelet functions at two levels (HH and HL) were employed. The analysis of results focuses on a comparative study of performance measures such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score. It was found that the preprocessing methods used in experiment 2, for the two evaluated classes (detonator and no detonator), achieved higher accuracy compared to the raw radiographic images used in experiment 1 (98.08%). The highest accuracies in experiment 2, with a value of 100%, were obtained with the CLAHE method (green channel in grayscale, blue channel in grayscale, and RGB channels) and the wavelet transform method with Haar mother wavelet at two levels HL

The correct identification of the driver genes that lead to cancer development is essential for understanding the mechanisms of cancer and developing drugs to treat it. Currently, most computational methods for identifying cancer driver genes are based on a cohort of patients. However, due to the heterogeneity of cancers, patients diagnosed with the same cancers may have different genomic characteristics and present varied clinical symptoms. It requires devising effective methods to identify personalized cancer driver genes in an individual. This work developed a novel method to predict personalized cancer driver genes of a single sample based on graph convolution networks, namely pDriverGCN. pDriverGCN constructed a mutant gene-sample heterogeneous network according to the known driver genes of samples. Then it employed two separate graph convolution network models to learn feature representations for genes and samples by gathering the features of themselves and their neighbors. Finally, pDriverGCN used the feature representations to reconstruct the association matrix between genes and samples through a linear correlation coefficient decoder. We apply our model to identify personalized driver genes of samples on the TCGA datasets. The experimental results show that our model outperforms state-of-the-art methods being evaluated at both population and individual levels.

nonlinear dynamic models is crucial for algorithms development for swarm robotics. However, existing platforms are mainly developed based on Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and either use simple kinematic models to pursue a large number of simulating nodes or implement realistic dynamic models with limited simulating nodes. In this paper, we develop a simulator based on Data-Oriented Programming (DOP) that utilizes GPU parallel computing to achieve large-scale swarm robotic simulations. Specifically, we use a multi-process approach to simulate heterogeneous agents and leverage PyTorch with GPU to simulate homogeneous agents with a large number. We test our approach using a nonlinear quadrotor model and demonstrate that this DOP approach can maintain almost the same computational speed when quadrotors are less than 5,000. Blockchain is characterized by privacy, traceability, and security features as a novel framework of distributed ledger technologies. Blockchain technology enables stakeholders to conduct trusted data sharing and exchange without a trusted centralized institution. These features make blockchain applications attractive to enhance trustworthiness in very different contexts. Due to unique design concepts and outstanding performance, blockchain has become a popular research topic in industry and academia in recent years. Every participant is anonymous in a permissionless blockchain represented by cryptocurrency applications such as Bitcoin. In this situation, some special incentive mechanisms are applied to permissionless blockchain, such as "mined" native cryptocurrency to solve the trust issues of permissionless blockchain. In many use cases, permissionless blockchain has bottlenecks in transaction throughput performance, which restricts further application in the real world. A permissioned blockchain can reach a consensus among a group of entities that do not establish an entire trust relationship. Unlike permissionless blockchains, the participants must be identified in permissioned blockchains. By relying on the traditional crash fault-tolerant consensus protocols, permissioned blockchains can achieve high transaction throughput and low latency without sacrificing security. However, how to balance the security and consensus efficiency is still the issue that needs to be solved urgently in permissioned blockchains. As the core module of blockchain technology, the consensus algorithm plays a vital role in the performance of the blockchain system. Thus, this paper proposes a new consensus algorithm for permissioned blockchain, the Risk Assessment-based Consensus protocol (RAC), combined with the decentralized design concept and the risk-node assessment mechanism to address the unbalance issues of performance in speed, scalability, and security. The process of fish breeding is extensively applied in fish farms and it is influenced by either environmental factors (in case of natural reproduction) and by the use of exogenous hormones (in case of artificial reproduction). Reproducing some species under controlled conditions without hormonal preparations is not possible. Many hormonal agents have been previously described in the scientific literature as beneficial in the fish breeding process. The effectiveness of these agents varies. This paper reviews some of the basic hormonal substances and describes the results of artificial reproduction. The most frequently encountered substances that give the best results are: Carp pituitary homogenate (CPH), Ovopel and Ovaprim. It can be concluded that in order to ensure the success of reproduction, the doses applied are particularly important, as well as the way of administration of the agent. © 2022 IEEE.

Social Event Detection (SED) aims to identify significant events from social streams, and has a wide application ranging from public opinion analysis to risk management. In recent years, Graph Neural Network (GNN) based solutions have achieved state-of-the-art performance. However, GNN-based methods often struggle with missing and noisy edges between messages, affecting the quality of learned message embedding. Moreover, these methods statically initialize node embedding before training, which, in turn, limits the ability to learn from message texts and relations simultaneously. In this paper, we approach social event detection from a new perspective based on Pre-trained Language Models (PLMs), and present RPLM (Relational prompt-based Pre-trained Language Models for Social Event Detection). We first propose a new pairwise message modeling strategy to construct social messages into message pairs with multi-relational sequences. Secondly, a new multi-relational prompt-based pairwise message learning mechanism is proposed to learn more comprehensive message representation from message pairs with multi-relational prompts using PLMs. Thirdly, we design a new clustering constraint to optimize the encoding process by enhancing intra-cluster compactness and inter-cluster dispersion, making the message representation more distinguishable. We evaluate the RPLM on three real-world datasets, demonstrating that the RPLM model achieves state-of-the-art performance in offline, online, low-resource, and long-tail distribution scenarios for social event detection tasks. The article gives the basic concepts of reliability, performance, durability, considers the issues of changing the technical state of the machine during operation. The models under consideration have the ability to introduce various perturbations in order to simulate physical defects, and numerical simulation on a computer made it possible to obtain solutions in the form of temporary realizations of oscillations for different states of the simulation object. The cooperative use of the full-scale method and mathematical modeling made it possible to reduce the volume of full-scale experiments and apply statistical methods of analysis in the problem of classifying the technical condition by constructing mathematical models of the probability of failure and uptime during their operating time. The content of the main types of machine states is revealed, considerable attention is paid to the issues of identifying and influencing failures and the causes of failures in the machine, the reasons for the loss of performance during operation.

In this paper, a dual functional component integrated with bandpass filter (BPF) and material sensing function is proposed, at the first time. By applying two dual mode ring resonators with defected ground structure, the dielectric properties of loaded materials under test (MUTs) can be detected based on the frequency drift of the transmission poles and zero, without affecting the bandpass filtering response for communication. To verify this design method, a demonstrated dual functional component integrated with bandpass filtering for 5GHz Wi-Fi channel and sensor for detecting the permittivity is implemented. Measured results are in good agreement with the simulated ones, indicating the feasibility of the proposed method.

The rapid development of technology has brought unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to become widely known in the current era. The market of UAVs is also predicted to continue growing with related technologies in the future. UAVs have been used in various sectors, including livestock, forestry, and agriculture. In agricultural applications, UAVs are highly capable of increasing the productivity of the farm and reducing farmers' workload. This paper discusses the application of UAVs in agriculture, particularly in spraying and crop monitoring. This study examines the urgency of UAV implementation in the agriculture sector. A short history of UAVs is provided in this paper to portray the development of UAVs from time to time. The classification of UAVs is also discussed to differentiate various types of UAVs. The application of UAVs in spraying and crop monitoring is based on the previous studies that have been done by many scientific groups and researchers who are working closely to propose solutions for agriculture-related issues. Furthermore, the limitations of UAV applications are also identified. The challenges in implementing agricultural UAVs in Indonesia are also presented. Copyright © 2023, The Authors.
