This paper presents an experimental study that compares the performance of four selected metaheuristic algorithms for optimizing a time delay system model. Time delay system models are complex and challenging to optimize due to their inherent characteristics, such as non-linearity, multi-modality, and constraints. The study includes an explanation of the choice and core functionality of the selected algorithms, which are both baseline and state-of-the-art variants of self-organizing migrating algorithm (SOMA), state-of-the-art variant from the Success-History-based Adaptive Differential Evolution family of algorithms, with emphasis on diverse search (DISH algorithm), and Covariance Matrix Adaptation Evolution Strategy (CMA-ES) algorithm. The hyperparameters of the metaheuristic algorithms were set using the iRace automatic algorithm configuration framework. The paper emphasizes the importance of metaheuristic algorithms in control engineering for time-delay systems to develop more effective and efficient control strategies and precise model identifications. The experimental results highlight the effectiveness of the state-of-the-art algorithms with specific adaptive mechanisms like population organization process, diverse search and adaptation mechanisms ensuring a gradual transition from exploration to exploitation. Overall, this study contributes to understanding the challenges and advantages of using metaheuristic algorithms in control engineering for time delay systems. The results provide valuable insights into the performance of modern metaheuristic algorithms and can help guide the selection of appropriate adaptive mechanisms of metaheuristics.

Detection Data Characteristics and Recognition of Tunnel Fissure Water

Tunnel fissure water may induce geological disasters of mud bursting and collapse during the construction stage. Therefore, it is important to automatically extract and identify fissure water in front of the tunnel face for tunnel construction. The paper performs diffraction migration imaging of seismic data after P/S wave separation, and the imaging results reflect the three-dimensional distribution of undesirable geologic bodies. Second, based on the geologic bodies obtained above, ground-penetrating radar detection is added to identify alternative area of fissure water at the peak point of the A-scan. The boundary point of the alternative area of fissure water is located at the peak point where the phase of the reflected wave and the incident wave are reversed. Finally, the area with a larger amplitude and smaller frequency than the surrounding rock is screened as the target area among the alternative area, and the distribution of fissure water is labeled in the B-scan. The method is applied to the mileage section K38+440$\sim$+320 of Liangwangshan Tunnel in Yunnan, and the forecast results show that the rock bodies near the mileage section K38+440$\sim$+410, K38+410$\sim$+380, and K38+350$\sim$+320 is more fragmented, the fissure water is developed, and the target area is verified by excavation. © 2023, The Authors. In the process of remagnetization of magnetic materials at certain frequencies, there are losses that reduce their energy expenditure, which are referred to as total losses. These losses include hysteresis loop losses, eddy current losses, and additional losses. The factor of additional losses is very often overlooked. Its contribution to total losses is considered to be marginal. Even in the case of materials showing the minimization of total losses, such as amorphous materials, this loss factor is important and should not be neglected when studying this phenomenon. The paper presents the results of tests on remagnetization losses of a ferromagnetic amorphous alloy at frequencies from 50 to 1000 Hz. The share of additional losses was separated, and their total contribution to total core losses was determined as a percentage. © 2025 Polska Akademia Nauk. All rights reserved.

In these conditions of Covid-19 pandemic, the design and implementation of an epidemiological modeling platform with an API-type integration with beneficiary entities and data providers is a priority for the healthcare system and other organizations. An epidemiological platform (PLIS), replicable and adaptable for managing an epidemic, based on an integrated extended SIR-type model, is presented in this paper. This solution has an open architecture, respecting the scalability and interoperability, requirements, and is based on international communication standards and protocols, and SOA technology.

Blockchain is characterized by privacy, traceability, and security features as a novel framework of distributed ledger technologies. Blockchain technology enables stakeholders to conduct trusted data sharing and exchange without a trusted centralized institution. These features make blockchain applications attractive to enhance trustworthiness in very different contexts. Due to unique design concepts and outstanding performance, blockchain has become a popular research topic in industry and academia in recent years. Every participant is anonymous in a permissionless blockchain represented by cryptocurrency applications such as Bitcoin. In this situation, some special incentive mechanisms are applied to permissionless blockchain, such as "mined" native cryptocurrency to solve the trust issues of permissionless blockchain. In many use cases, permissionless blockchain has bottlenecks in transaction throughput performance, which restricts further application in the real world. A permissioned blockchain can reach a consensus among a group of entities that do not establish an entire trust relationship. Unlike permissionless blockchains, the participants must be identified in permissioned blockchains. By relying on the traditional crash fault-tolerant consensus protocols, permissioned blockchains can achieve high transaction throughput and low latency without sacrificing security. However, how to balance the security and consensus efficiency is still the issue that needs to be solved urgently in permissioned blockchains. As the core module of blockchain technology, the consensus algorithm plays a vital role in the performance of the blockchain system. Thus, this paper proposes a new consensus algorithm for permissioned blockchain, the Risk Assessment-based Consensus protocol (RAC), combined with the decentralized design concept and the risk-node assessment mechanism to address the unbalance issues of performance in speed, scalability, and security. UGNA-VPR: A Novel Training Paradigm for Visual Place Recognition Based on Uncertainty-Guided NeRF Augmentation

Visual place recognition (VPR) is crucial for robots to identify previously visited locations, playing an important role in autonomous navigation in both indoor and outdoor environments. However, most existing VPR datasets are limited to single-viewpoint scenarios, leading to reduced recognition accuracy, particularly in multi-directional driving or feature-sparse scenes. Moreover, obtaining additional data to mitigate these limitations is often expensive. This paper introduces a novel training paradigm to improve the performance of existing VPR networks by enhancing multi-view diversity within current datasets through uncertainty estimation and NeRF-based data augmentation. Specifically, we initially train NeRF using the existing VPR dataset. Then, our devised self-supervised uncertainty estimation network identifies places with high uncertainty. The poses of these uncertain places are input into NeRF to generate new synthetic observations for further training of VPR networks. Additionally, we propose an improved storage method for efficient organization of augmented and original training data. We conducted extensive experiments on three datasets and tested three different VPR backbone networks. The results demonstrate that our proposed training paradigm significantly improves VPR performance by fully utilizing existing data, outperforming other training approaches. We further validated the effectiveness of our approach on self-recorded indoor and outdoor datasets, consistently demonstrating superior results. This paper proposes a lower extremity exoskeleton simulation model for more effective control in vertical locomotion when patients need to move from static seating configuration to walking-ready configuration. Variable impedance actuators (VIA) or variable stiffness actuators (VSA) are considered as the primary source of generating and translating controlled torque values with elastic compliance properties to movement elements of a discussed system using PID control with dynamic compensation. The model-applied torque can be divided into two torques, one about gravity compensation and another about acceleration. The simulink environment with simscape library was used to create a simulation process of the working mechanism. Data on angles, torques, and velocities were obtained and considered for correctness in natural human locomotion. Calculations provide upper limit for the required torque to stand up, which can be used as a basis to select a proper actuator. © 2021 IEEE.

In this paper the generation of a geometrical model for simulation of the transport process inside the bouton of the biological neuron is considered. The transport is modeled in three-dimensional space by using nonlinear diffusion-like partial differential equation. The geometry of the bouton is modeled in two ways. Achieving fairness in the stochastic multi-armed bandit problem

We study an interesting variant of the stochastic multi-armed bandit problem, which we call the Fair-MAB problem, where, in addition to the objective of maximizing the sum of expected rewards, the algorithm also needs to ensure that at any time, each arm is pulled at least a pre-specified fraction of times. We investigate the interplay between learning and fairness in terms of a pre-specified vector denoting the fractions of guaranteed pulls. We define a fairness-aware regret, which we call r-Regret, that takes into account the above fairness constraints and extends the conventional notion of regret in a natural way. Our primary contribution is to obtain a complete characterization of a class of Fair-MAB algorithms via two parameters: the unfairness tolerance and the learning algorithm used as a black-box. For this class of algorithms, we provide a fairness guarantee that holds uniformly over time, irrespective of the chosen learning algorithm. Further, when the learning algorithm is UCB1, we show that our algorithm achieves constant r-Regret for a large enough time horizon. Finally, we analyze the cost of fairness in terms of the conventional notion of regret. We conclude by experimentally validating our theoretical results.
