Short-Term Load Forecasting Based on Graph Convolution and Dendritic Deep Learning

Short-term load forecasting (STLF) is a significant task to the planning, operation and control of future power systems. The increasing number of devices connected to the system has led to more complex characteristics and forms of load, which has brought considerable difficulties to the relevant methods in achieving higher load prediction accuracy and reliability. In this regard, this study proposes a deep learning model that combines graph convolutional network (GCN), gated recurrent unit (GRU), and dendritic neural model (DNM) to forecast electric load more accurately. Firstly, the sample load data is constructed into graph data with individual time steps as nodes. A GCN is used to extract the hidden features while allowing a full communication between the time steps feature data. A GRU is then used to capture the time-dependent relationship of the data. Finally, a dendritic layer instead of a fully connected layer is used as the output to integrate data features in depth. Experiments are conducted to verify the validity of the proposed model and compared it with several effective deep learning models, including CNN_LSTM, Transformer and Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks (KAN). The results show a significant improvement in prediction compared to the baseline models, with mean absolute percentage error(MAPE) of 1.62% and 3.98%, coefficient of determination(R2) of 0.983 and 0.928 respectively on two load datasets at different levels of aggregation, nationally and regionally. © 2013 IEEE.

Dynamic interval multi-objective optimization problems, such as those encountered in wireless sensor network scheduling and portfolio selection, are increasingly prevalent. However, they present significant challenges due to the inherent uncertainty and variability of their parameters. This paper proposes a dynamic interval multi-objective evolutionary algorithm in terms of multi-task learning and inverse mapping. The algorithm employs an interval-based MOEA/D as its foundational framework. Upon encountering environmental changes, prediction models for the midpoints and widths of intervals are developed using multi-task learning combined with a self-evolving fuzzy system. These models generate a predicted Pareto front (PF) in the objective space. Subsequently, inverse mappings of the objective functions at the new time are established to identify solutions that correspond to the predicted PF in the decision space. Finally, these solutions are expanded to form an initial population at the new time. Testing on eighteen benchmark optimization problems and an uncertain scheduling of underwater wireless sensor networks, the proposed algorithm demonstrates both competitiveness and superiority when compared to five state-of-the-art algorithms. © 1997-2012 IEEE.

Root dental diseases remain among the most diagnostically challenging conditions in oral healthcare, often leading to treatment delays and suboptimal outcomes. This study is motivated by the limitations of existing automated diagnostic systems, which tend to focus on superficial abnormalities and overlook complex root pathologies such as pulpal infections, periapical lesions, and progressive periodontitis. To bridge this critical gap, we propose an advanced AI-based classification model that integrates ensemble deep learning architectures with a hybrid metaheuristic optimization strategy-namely, the non-population-based Artificial Multiple Intelligence System (np-AMIS) for image augmentation and the population-based AMIS (pop-AMIS) for adaptive decision fusion. This dual-phase approach enhances feature diversity, classification robustness, and computational efficiency. The model was trained and validated on two proprietary datasets, TD-1 and TD-2, achieving classification accuracies of 98.87 % and 98.41 %, respectively. It was further implemented in a real-world application via the Automated Teeth Disease and Abnormality Classification System (A-TD-A-CS), demonstrating 98.95 % accuracy, a rapid response time of 1.5 s, and a System Usability Scale (SUS) score of 94.5 from dental professionals. The system's ability to accurately identify multiple root disease categories highlights its clinical viability and transformative potential. In addition to its current performance, this study lays the groundwork for future extensions to multi-center datasets and cross-modality diagnostics using cone-beam CT or intraoral scans, further advancing intelligent dental care. © 2025

An accurate state of health (SOH) estimation for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) is crucial for reliable operations and extending service life. While electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) effectively characterizes LIBs degradation patterns, the high dimensionality of EIS data poses challenges for an efficient analysis. This study proposes a novel method that combines EIS with an equivalent circuit model (ECM) and distribution of relaxation time (DRT) analysis to extract low-dimensional health features from high-dimensional EIS data. A multi-scale kernel extreme learning machine (MS-KELM), optimized by the Sparrow Search Algorithm (SSA), estimates battery SOH with an average mean absolute error (MAE) of 1.37% and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 1.76%. In addition, compared with support vector regression (SVR) and Gaussian process regression (GPR), the proposed method reduces computational time by factors of 4 to 30 and lowers memory usage by approximately 18%. © 2025 by the authors.

Temporal-Aware Spiking Transformer Hashing Based on 3D-DWT

With the rapid growth of dynamic vision sensor (DVS) data, constructing a low-energy, efficient data retrieval system has become an urgent task. Hash learning is one of the most important retrieval technologies which can keep the distance between hash codes consistent with the distance between DVS data. As spiking neural networks (SNNs) can encode information through spikes, they demonstrate great potential in promoting energy efficiency. Based on the binary characteristics of SNNs, we first propose a novel supervised hashing method named Spikinghash with a hierarchical lightweight structure. Spiking WaveMixer (SWM) is deployed in shallow layers, utilizing a multilevel 3D discrete wavelet transform (3D-DWT) to decouple spatiotemporal features into various low-frequency and high-frequency components, and then employing efficient spectral feature fusion. SWM can effectively capture the temporal dependencies and local spatial features. Spiking Self-Attention (SSA) is deployed in deeper layers to further extract global spatiotemporal information. We also design a hash layer utilizing binary characteristic of SNNs, which integrates information over multiple time steps to generate final hash codes. Furthermore, we propose a new dynamic soft similarity loss for SNNs, which utilizes membrane potentials to construct a learnable similarity matrix as soft labels to fully capture the similarity differences between classes and compensate information loss in SNNs, thereby improving retrieval performance. Experiments on multiple datasets demonstrate that Spikinghash can achieve state-of-the-art results with low energy consumption and fewer parameters. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. An innovative integrated processing framework for enhanced decoding of Mental-Imagery MEG signals

Magnetoencephalography (MEG) has emerged as a pivotal tool for developing brain-computer interfaces (BCI) based on mental imagery tasks, owing to its superior spatiotemporal resolution. However, existing decoding strategies for MEG data in mental imagery tasks face two major challenges: (1) inadequate exploitation of the high-dimensional characteristics of MEG signals, and (2) a lack of tailored algorithms for efficient feature extraction and classification. To address these issues, we propose a novel integrated processing framework for enhancing mental imagery-based BCI performance. First, an innovative channel selection method combining correlation coefficient and variance entropy product (CC-VEP) is introduced to identify task-relevant channels while suppressing noise and redundancy. Next, discriminative features are extracted using the DivCSP algorithm with intra-class regularization terms. Subsequently, probabilistic outputs from base classifiers (K-Nearest Neighbors, Random Forests, Support Vector Machines, and Extreme Learning Machines) are fused through a modified multi-criteria decision-based fusion (MCDM-MCF) strategy to generate final class labels. Experimental results on a public MEG dataset demonstrate that the proposed framework achieves a 12.25% improvement in classification accuracy compared to the average accuracy of all base classifiers in traditional methods, and a 7.97% improvement over other existing methods. Moreover, it effectively balances specificity and sensitivity, enhances robustness, and offers a new approach for efficient decoding in mental imagery-based BCI systems. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

The evolution of healthcare systems worldwide necessitates continual improvement in hospital management practices, particularly pharmaceutical management. This paper explores transforming traditional pharmaceutical management systems in large and medium-sized hospitals in Thailand into smart systems using Value Stream Mapping (VSM) as a guiding tool. Traditional systems often face challenges such as inefficiencies and medication errors. VSM, rooted in lean management principles, offers a structured approach to visualize and optimize processes. Additionally, smart technologies like automated inventory systems and electronic health records enhance pharmaceutical management effectiveness. Through a comprehensive research methodology encompassing case studies, data collection, and VSM analysis, this study identifies inefficiencies and proposes evidence-based strategies for improvement. Results from a case study highlight the benefits of VSM implementation in enhancing pharmacy operations, emphasizing improved patient care and operational efficiency. The implementation of a smart medication dispensing system shows promising results in reducing workload and accommodating increased patient arrivals. Continued evaluation and refinement are crucial for maximizing benefits and addressing emerging challenges effectively. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

TPCap: Unlocking Zero-Shot Image Captioning with Trigger-Augmented and Multi-Modal Purification Modules

Recent advancements in large language models (LLMs) have significantly enhanced the fluency and logical coherence of image captioning. Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) is widely adopted to incorporate external knowledge into LLMs;however, existing RAG-based methods rely on separate retrieval banks, introducing computational overhead and limiting the utilization of LLMs’ inherent zero-shot capabilities. To address these limitations, we propose TPCap, a novel trigger-augmented and multi-modal purification framework for zero-shot image captioning without external retrieval libraries. TPCap consists of two key components: trigger-augmented (TA) generation and multi-modal purification (MP). The TA module employs a trigger projector with frozen and learnable projections to activate LLMs’ contextual reasoning, enhance visual-textual alignment, and mitigate data bias. The MP module further refines the generated entity-related information by filtering noise and enhancing feature quality, ensuring more precise and factually consistent captions. We evaluate TPCap on COCO, NoCaps, Flickr30k, and WHOOPS datasets. With only 0.82M trainable parameters and training on a single NVIDIA RTX 4090 GPU, TPCap achieves competitive performance comparable to state-of-the-art models. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. Task Scheduling Mechanism for Crowdsourcing in Mobile Social Networks

With the popularization of smart phones, mobile crowdsourcing emerged and gained growing attention in the recent years. Mobile users are now able to conduct complex tasks with the communication between each other. In this paper, we study the task scheduling problem in the mobile crowdsourcing systems based on the spontaneously formed mobile social networks (MSNs). We introduce two crowdsourcing task scheduling problems under this system model, with one problem aiming to minimize the total cost of some crowdsourcing tasks and the other focusing on minimizing the final completion time of the tasks belonging to the same project. We introduce a unified framework to solve the problems and propose two approximation algorithms for these two problems in the offline versions respectively and prove Their approximation ratios accordingly. Based on the two algorithms, we further design two online algorithms to deal with the workers' dynamism and also analyze their competitive ratios. Finally, we verify the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed methods through numerical experiments on real and synthetic datasets. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Dynamic elements in dynamic environment are important factors that affect the localization accuracy of visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (vSLAM), and may even lead to tracking failures. To address this issue, we propose an enhanced dense visual SLAM method specifically designed for dynamic environments. The whole framework of our approach is based on ORB-SLAM2, while integrating the YOLOv9 network to detect dynamic objects. By transmitting the detection results of YOLOv9 to the SLAM module, dynamic feature elements are then removed from the dense map construction thread. Finally, the dense map that only contains static information is created. The experimental results show that the filtering of dynamic objects not only can reduce the average root mean square error (RMSE), but also help and then improve the robustness of the SLAM system in dynamic environment.
