Artificial Intelligence (AI) education for K-12 is increasingly important as the emerging AI technologies are pervasively infused into human daily lives. Eleven countries have endorsed and implemented the AI curricula at K-12 levels [1]. The "Five Big Ideas"about AI, as proposed by the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) and the computer science Teacher Association (CSTA) have emerged to form the core components of K-12 AI education [2], [3]. However, the assessment of students' learning in AI education for K-12 is still in its initial stage. Surveys and interviews are the major assessing tools based on students' self- perceptions. Standardized tests on students' AI literacy are still rare. This paper focuses on the first stage of an AI literacy test based on the Five Big Ideas for Grade 7 to Grade 9 students. The test aims to measure the changes of students' AI literacy before and after attending a one-year AI course. The preliminary findings show the students have increased in their AI literacy after attending the course. The test can provide insights for understanding students' competencies and needs in AI literacy and improving the curriculum guidelines for students' effective learning. © 2022 IEEE.

Rapid-quenched Fe-based alloys may show hard or soft magnetic properties depending on the chemical composition and structure of the alloy. One of the most sensitive methods of studying the structure and, indirectly, magnetic properties is Mössbauer spectroscopy. Using this method, it is possible to determine the surroundings of Fe atoms and to identify crystalline phases in the volume of the alloy. The distributions of hyper ne eld induction supplemented with measurements of saturation magnetization as a function of the external magnetic eld allow us to explain signi cant differences in magnetic properties also within the amorphous structure. The paper presents the results of research on the structure and magnetic properties of rapid-quenched FeNbYHfB alloys. It was found that slight changes in the chemical composition affect the surroundings of Fe atoms and the density of the alloy, which correlates with the change in the value of the coercive eld and saturation magnetization of rapid-quenched alloys. © 2025 Polska Akademia Nauk. The article presents the issue of scale deposits in sanitary installations. Scale contributes to improper operation of sanitary devices and leads to their degradation. Scale build-up in pipes and measuring elements results in higher water consumption due to inaccurate estimation of this resource consumption. The consequence is that devices based on process automation do not work properly due to disturbances in the actual water flow. The formation of deposits also leads to economic and ecological losses, as sanitary installations elements have to be replaced, which affects the increased use of raw materials and the generation of waste. This is not in line with current trends and global objectives related to circular economy. Scale also results in increased energy consumption and reduced energy efficiency. This is due to the resistance of the flows and the increased work of the pumps. Scale has insulating properties, which results in less efficient heat transfer. In this stady, a mathematical model was developed to detect the formation of scale deposits in sanitary installations. On this basis, it is possible to control the quality status of sanitary installation components. In this way, by taking appropriate action at an early stage of the formation of deposits, it can extend the life of the installation. Having information on scale deposits, it will help avoid wasting water and lead to more accurate measurement of water flows. This is important for the proper operation of devices such as heat pumps, where their operation is automated and requires precise measurements of the energy processes taking place. Scale is a significant problem for households, and also for factories or public institutions that are exposed to hard water environments. © 2021 International Multidisciplinary Scientific Geoconference. Jet mixing enhancement with Bayesian optimization, deep learning, and persistent data topology

We optimize the jet mixing using large eddy simulations (LES) at a Reynolds number of 3000. Key methodological enablers consist of Bayesian optimization, a surrogate model enhanced by deep learning, and persistent data topology for physical interpretation. The mixing performance is characterized by an equivalent jet radius (Req) derived from the streamwise velocity in a plane located 8 diameters downstream. The optimization is performed in a 22-dimensional actuation space that comprises most known excitations. The plant benefits from a 22-dimensional actuation space that comprises most known excitations. This search space parameterizes distributed actuation imposed on the bulk flow and at the periphery of the nozzle in the streamwise and radial directions. The momentum flux measures the energy input of the actuation. The optimization quadruples the jet radius Req with a 7-armed blooming jet after around 570 evaluations. The control input requires 2% momentum flux of the main flow, which is one order of magnitude lower than an ad hoc dual-mode excitation. Intriguingly, a pronounced suboptimum in the search space is associated with a double-helix jet, a new flow pattern. This jet pattern results in a mixing improvement comparable to the blooming jet. A state-of-the-art Bayesian optimization converges towards this double helix solution. The learning is accelerated and converges to another better optimum by including surrogate model trained along the optimization. Persistent data topology extracts the global and many local minima in the actuation space. These minima can be identified with flow patterns beneficial to the mixing. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

In Industry 5.0, the workers' well-being is the central pillar. Therefore, research on methods and technics to improve the workers' user experience in a human-robot collaborative environment is necessary. While the effects of dynamic variables, such as speed and acceleration, on human safety have been extensively studied, their impact on human perception has not been fully explored. This study investigates the effects of the robot's speed and acceleration on humans. An experimental research approach was used, where 20 participants (10 women and 10 men) performed an assembly task collaborating with a robot. Two experiments were defined, and the participants were evenly distributed: in the first experiment, the participants started by performing the task at a slow robot speed and then performed the same task at a faster speed. In the second experiment, the other half followed the opposite procedure. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), physiological values (via EEG and GSR), and perceptual values (using the standardised UEQ-S questionnaire) were collected. The results showed that the robot's speed and acceleration impact the task's completion time and participants' emotional responses. Our results lead to a new concept, "HRI speed bell", which indicates that it is necessary to investigate the optimal speed and acceleration to ensure good trust and perceived safety. Furthermore, the task sequence also influences participants' expectations and performance. Finally, gender-differentiated results were also observed. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this paper, the numerical solution of the Partial Differential Equation Bilaplacian type by the finite element method is presented in order to simulate the accelerometer-type MEMS behavior. The above-mentioned solution is used for emulates the behavior of the deformation of an Accelerometer-type MEMS. The technique is the physically-based modelling as a methodology of simulation with visualization that was used for solve the current problem. The first step is to solve the partial differential equation, which represents the structure, by the finite element method. This numerical method was instrumented in Octave, taking into account the primitive functions that it contains, and taking in advantage the powerful language and that is free software resource. For this problem, the software built, it has results suitable for these types of problems and has well rates of error. Once these types of results have been obtained, the next step will be the rendering and interpretation of the results in graphical way. In spite of the complexity and size in memory used by the numerical method, this procedure it results be a good alternative for this case and maybe in other similar cases. Locally free weight sharing for network width search

Searching for network width is an effective way to slim deep neural networks with hardware budgets. With this aim, a one-shot supernet is usually leveraged as a performance evaluator to rank the performance w.r.t. different width. Nevertheless, current methods mainly follow a manually fixed weight sharing pattern, which is limited to distinguish the performance gap of different width. In this paper, to better evaluate each width, we propose a loCAlly FrEe weight sharing strategy (CafeNet) accordingly. In CafeNet, weights are more freely shared, and each width is jointly indicated by its base channels and free channels, where free channels are supposed to locate freely in a local zone to better represent each width. Besides, we propose to further reduce the search space by leveraging our introduced FLOPs-sensitive bins. As a result, our CafeNet can be trained stochastically and get optimized within a min-min strategy. Extensive experiments on ImageNet, CIFAR-10, CelebA and MS COCO dataset have verified our superiority comparing to other state-of-the-art baselines. For example, our method can further boost the benchmark NAS network EfficientNet-B0 by 0.41% via searching its width more delicately. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

When writing a high-performance code for numerical computation in a scripting language like MATLAB, it is crucial to have the operations in a large for-loop vectorized. If not, the code becomes too slow to be of any use, even for a moderately large problem. However, in the process of vectorizing, it often happens that the code loses its original structure and becomes less readable. This is particularly true in the case of a finite element implementation, even though finite element methods are inherently structured. A basic remedy to this is the separation of the vectorization part from the mathematics part in the code, which is easily achieved through building the code on top of the basic linear algebra subprograms that are already vectorized codes, an idea which has been used in a series of papers over the last fifteen years, developing codes that are fast and still structured and readable. We discuss the vectorized basic linear algebra package, and introduce a formalism using multi-linear algebra to explain and define formally the functions in the package, as well as MATLAB’s pagetime functions. We provide examples from computations of varying complexity, including the computation of normal vectors, volumes, and finite element methods. Benchmarking shows that we also get fast computations. Using the library, we can write codes that closely follow our mathematical thinking, making it easier to write, follow, reuse, and extend the code. © 2024, CC BY.

Structural relaxations play a large role in forming the properties of magnetic materials. In amorphous alloys, which are metastable materials, obtaining a relatively stable structure requires a properly designed thermal treatment process. Samples should be annealed above the Curie temperature and below the crystallization temperature. With the process designed in such a way, the domain structure is not interfered with and the formation of crystal grains does not occur. By analyzing the so-called Holstein-Primakoff paraprocess, it is possible to determine the in uence of magnetic atoms on the magnetization process in strong magnetic elds above the eld of effective anisotropy. © 2025 Polska Akademia Nauk.
