Real-world social events typically exhibit a severe class-imbalance distribution, which makes the trained detection model encounter a serious generalization challenge. Most studies solve this problem from the frequency perspective and emphasize the representation or classifier learning for tail classes. While in our observation, compared to the rarity of classes, the calibrated uncertainty estimated from well-trained evidential deep learning networks better reflects model performance. To this end, we propose a novel uncertainty-guided class imbalance learning framework - UCLSED, and its variant - UCL-ECSED, for imbalanced social event detection tasks. We aim to improve the overall model performance by enhancing model generalization to those uncertain classes. Considering performance degradation usually comes from misclassifying samples as their confusing neighboring classes, we focus on boundary learning in latent space and classifier learning with high-quality uncertainty estimation. First, we design a novel uncertainty-guided contrastive learning loss, namely UCL and its variant - UCL-EC, to manipulate distinguishable representation distribution for imbalanced data. During training, they force all classes, especially uncertain ones, to adaptively adjust a clear separable boundary in the feature space. Second, to obtain more robust and accurate class uncertainty, we combine the results of multi-view evidential classifiers via the Dempster-Shafer theory under the supervision of an additional calibration method. We conduct experiments on three severely imbalanced social event datasets including Events2012_100, Events2018_100, and CrisisLexT_7. In this paper, we introduce an improved 32-bit color image encryption method using Four 1D chaotic maps that are Logistic map, Chebyshev map, Tent map, and Sine map. these maps were used to fill the four matrices of our encryption system with unique integers that are between 0 and 255. Each matrix has a size of arranged in a square. The four channels of a 32-bit color image are represented by these matrices (red, green, blue, and alpha). The upper-left and lower-right matrices are used to encrypt respectively the red and the alpha channels. The upper-right and lower-left matrices are used to encrypt respectively the green and the blue channels. For the confusion section, we apply the Arnold Cat Map transformation to shuffle all the pixels and change their position. Several safety criteria were used to evaluate the performance of our algorithm against common attacks and have shown excellent results. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In recent years, the transition to the digital world offers users several conveniences, to use, process, store, and transmit their data. In addition, the rapid and continuous evolution of image acquisition systems has allowed a tremendous growth in the use of digital images. Indeed, digitization is a double-edged sword; it offers several benefits on the one hand and poses security problems on the other hand. For this reason, it is mandatory to design digital image protection systems against illegal manipulation. In recent decades, digital tattooing, a brilliant technique proposed to address several aspects of security. The principle of this technique is to implement a digital signal called watermark in another digital signal called host signal (text, image, audio, video…). In this context, our work aims to propose novel digital image watermarking approaches based on wavelets and DCT for the copyright protection of medical images. The proposed methods will allow optimizing the two contradictory demands of watermarking: imperceptibility and robustness.

Vision Transformers (ViTs) have recently demonstrated remarkable performance in computer vision tasks. However, their parameter-intensive nature and reliance on large amounts of data for effective performance have shifted the focus from traditional human-annotated labels to unsupervised learning and pretraining strategies that uncover hidden structures within the data. In response to this challenge, self-supervised learning (SSL) has emerged as a promising paradigm. SSL leverages inherent relationships within the data itself as a form of supervision, eliminating the need for manual labeling and offering a more scalable and resource-efficient alternative for model training. Given these advantages, it is imperative to explore the integration of SSL techniques with ViTs, particularly in scenarios with limited labeled data. Inspired by this evolving trend, this survey aims to systematically review SSL mechanisms tailored for ViTs. We propose a comprehensive taxonomy to classify SSL techniques based on their representations and pre-training tasks. Additionally, we discuss the motivations behind SSL, review prominent pre-training tasks, and highlight advancements and challenges in this field. Furthermore, we conduct a comparative analysis of various SSL methods designed for ViTs, evaluating their strengths, limitations, and applicability to different scenarios. The exponential growth of astronomical datasets provides an unprecedented opportunity for humans to gain insight into the Universe. However, effectively analyzing this vast amount of data poses a significant challenge. Astronomers are turning to deep learning techniques to address this, but the methods are limited by their specific training sets, leading to considerable duplicate workloads too. Hence, as an example to present how to overcome the issue, we built a framework for general analysis of galaxy images, based on a large vision model (LVM) plus downstream tasks (DST), including galaxy morphological classification, image restoration, object detection, parameter extraction, and more. Considering the low signal-to-noise ratio of galaxy images and the imbalanced distribution of galaxy categories, we have incorporated a Human-in-the-loop (HITL) module into our large vision model, which leverages human knowledge to enhance the reliability and interpretability of processing galaxy images interactively. The proposed framework exhibits notable few-shot learning capabilities and versatile adaptability to all the abovementioned tasks on galaxy images in the DESI legacy imaging surveys. Expressly, for object detection, trained by 1000 data points, our DST upon the LVM achieves an accuracy of 96.7%, while ResNet50 plus Mask R-CNN gives an accuracy of 93.1%;for morphology classification, to obtain AUC ∼ 0.9, LVM plus DST and HITL only requests 1/50 training sets compared to ResNet18. Expectedly, multimodal data can be integrated similarly, which opens up possibilities for conducting joint analyses with datasets spanning diverse domains in the era of multi-message astronomy. © 2024, CC BY.

Heat Transfer Performance of Flat Micro-Heat Pipe with Sintered Multi-Size Copper Powder Wick

Flat Micro-Heat Pipe (FMHP) with sintered copper powder wick is a popular device for heat flux management of highly integrated electronic circuits. To this end, a Sintered Multi-size copper powder wick (SMW) is prepared, basing a Sintered Single-size copper powder wick (SSW). The evaporator and condenser section of the SMW is a doublelayer structure with two copper powder diameters to increase the evaporation and condensation rates inside the FMHP. The adiabatic section is a single-layer structure with single powder diameter to add a capillary gradient force in the liquid channel. Six SSWs with different copper powder diameters are prepared and tested to compare with SMW. The methanol pumping experiment is carried out to evaluate the capillary pressure of different wicks, and the surface temperature experiment is carried out to evaluate the thermal transfer performance of the FMHP with different wicks, respectively. The experimental results show that the liquid transfer time of the SMW is shortened 16.59% compared to the SSW. The dynamic response time constant of the SMW FMHP is decreased by 0.9 s , and the overall thermal resistance is reduced by 14.22%. The SMW can enhance the heat transfer performance of the FMHP. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A new approach for the digital watermarking process is proposed to be part of the pre-processing stage of a computer-aided diagnosis system. We propose to embed a denoised image acting as the watermark image in the original host image with the final goal of improving the quality of demoscopic images for further image processing operation related to CAD. The proposed algorithm uses Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) corroborated with some basic properties of Human Visual System such as Contrast Sensitive Function (CSF) and Noise Visibility Function (NVF) with the goal of correlating the texture properties and noise. This approach hides the watermark (i.e. denoised version of the host image) in high-pass subbands that are focused on image features. The main concern is to evaluate the distortion produced to the host image by watermarking and an objective quality measure function, i.e. Weighted Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (WPSNR), is used to evaluate the existing differences between the original and watermarked images. The proposed approach is tested using the available skin lesion images from the digital image archive of the Department of Dermatology of the University Medical Center Groningen. The experiment results show the improved performance of the proposed scheme against a 3 × 3 median filtering attack in comparison with the a 5 × 5 median filtering attack. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The article focuses on design and implementation of control modes for the control system of a manipulator used as the main part of a robot for remote medical ultrasound examination. This control system has been developed within the ReMeDi (Remote Medical Diagnostician) project. At the beginning of the article, the manipulator kinematics and its control system structure are addressed. The essential components of the control system are discussed in detail.
