ECOTECHNOLOGY REMOVAL FROM WASTEWATER OF FOUR ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS USING ACTIVATED CARBON MATERIAL

This article presents the study of anti-inflammatory drugs residues removal from wastewater using activated carbon material. For the adsorption and desorption studies were used four anti-inflammatory drugs: acetaminophen, diclofenac, ibuprofen and ketoprofen. The physical-chemical properties of the synthetic pollutants were studied varied the pH, the concentration and the contact time of the drug residues. To highlight the mathematical model which described very well the adsorption processes were used Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm. To demonstrate the presence of the drugs residues in wastewater were used total organic carbon (TOC) technique. Three concentrations of drugs were experienced: 1mg/L, 5mg/L and 10 mg/L and the amounts of activated carbon material used were 0.1g, 0,5g and 1g. The maximum efficiency of removing anti-inflammatory drugs residues from wastewater were recorded at pH=6, 1mg/L initial pollutants concentration and 1g adsorbent dosage. The removal efficiency for drug residues was as follows: acetaminophen (88%) > diclofenac (82%) > ketoprofen (79%) > ibuprofen (77%). © 2024, Politechnica University of Bucharest. Industrial provers are air conditioned, temperature and relative humidity being two parameters of interest. Equally important is the air speed distribution in the prover, which is performed with a set of tubes specifically placed for treated air recirculation. The purpose of this paper is the analysis and determination of optimal air speed distribution in a 4 level tunnel prover for uniform temperature distribution throughout the entire prover volume. © 2021, Politechnica University of Bucharest. A city of the future have to be ecological, alongside the generally valid, social and economic requirements. Green hydrogen satisfies the limiting conditions for the first stage of use of CO2 emissions, with tendencies to achieve decarbonization in the future. The paper analyzed the results that can be obtained regarding the injection of hydrogen into the urban methane network, with initially small proportions, but increasing for the future. Residential heating, cooking fuel, but also transports with a mixture of methane gas and hydrogen are considered. The use of fuel cells is a cost-effective solution for urban transport compared to that based on electric batteries, and the heat release of fuel cell technology and an efficient application for residential heating. For the production of electricity, including in cogeneration mode, the gas turbine solution was the most adequate, as they can work both with a mixture of methane and hydrogen and with hydrogen. © 2023 IEEE.

Guided waves in hollow cylinders have been theoretically investigated for more than fifty years. The dispersion equations for the longitudinal waves L(0,n) have been numerically solved by many authors and even commercial software exist to provide numerical solutions for a given practical case. A numerical coincidence of the dispersion curves of the longitudinal waves propagating along a hollow cylinder and those of the Lamb waves propagating in plates has been remarked by many authors. However this coincidence is valid only in the high frequency range, whereas for very low frequencies, only L(0,1) mode is propagating and L(0,2) mode has a cut-off frequency. These properties of the longitudinal guided waves in tubes are analytically investigated in this paper, analytically proving the asymptotic convergence of the dispersion curves at high frequencies towards those of Lamb guided waves in plates. Then, the cut-off frequency of L(0,2) mode in pipes is determined using a simple analytical formula and an investigation of the imaginary and complex branches below this cut-off concludes the paper. © 2022, Politechnica University of Bucharest. Low-frequency power ultrasonic systems are applied in various areas of industry due to their ability to improve different technologies and realize unique technological processes. In some cases ultrasonic instrument, which realizes such technologies, operates under temperature exposure which affects its mechanical and in consequence acoustical properties. To provide efficiency of power ultrasonic system operation it is necessary to realize accurate simulation of ultrasonic instrument parameters. In the present paper parameters of rod-type vibration systems which exposed to elevated temperature action at the part of their length are considered. By transfer matrix method eigenfrequency properties of low frequency vibration systems are studied for different variants of temperature exposure and cooling conditions, for different materials. The same method could be applied for simulation of others types of vibration systems under different conditions of temperature action. © 2022 IEEE.

There are different types of emerging pollutants from organic to inorganic substances, also including nanoparticles an microplastics. Often, the use of photocatalytic methods applied for organic contaminants generate low molecular organic compounds less toxic for the environment. The most common and efficient nanomaterial used for photodegradation is TiO2. This paper presents the main steps of obtaining and characterization of nanostructured TiO2 (obtained as anatase phase), with emphasizing the main structural and morphological properties responsible for photodegradation process. To assess the effectiveness of nanostructured TiO2 as photocatalyst, a dye (methylene blue, MB) was degraded under UV light, in the presence of nano-TiO2. © 2021, Politechnica University of Bucharest. Railway transport safety is directly connected with the condition of railway tracks and also the condition of railway wheels' surface. One of the main reasons for abnormal situations on railways are various defects such as irregularities of a railway track. Thus, we need to estimate the length of short and impulse irregularities. It is also important to carry out joint analysis of vibration acceleration signals recorded by accelerometers in order to study types and sizes of railway track irregularities. © 2024 IEEE.

Remediation of the existing contaminated sites assumes the application of different remediation approaches that are closely related to site-specific characteristics. Along the time, different decontamination methods and approaches have been tested with direct and indirect costs and benefits. In the framework of the current experimental study, a historically contaminated soil with high levels of petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH concentration in soil 15.967,4 mg/kgd.w.) was the subject of the electrochemical treatment. The main aim of the applied experimental research was to evaluate the remediation potential of the electrochemical process when high levels of TPH in contaminated soils are identified. © 2021, Politechnica University of Bucharest. Due to its fibrous structure and high water holding capacity, rock mineral wool (RMW) has boosted the development of hydroponics. Consequently, the amount of waste RMW has also increased tremendously, which has stimulated the research and development of RMW reuse options. In this study, composting and degradability of RMW from hydroponics (gRMW) were tested in combination with different ratios of biowaste compost, including physical and chemical properties of the starting and final materials, and potential ecological hazards of the final product. gRMW had high water holding capacity and low organic matter content, which was easily degradable. Limits of toxic elements according to EU regulation were not exceeded. Degraded gRMW mixtures with compost did not exhibit toxicity to plants or aquatic bacteria and showed intermediate or limited habitat function for earthworms, which preferred the sole gRMW not mixed with compost. Overall, degraded gRMW exhibited parameters of safe soil amendment. © The Author(s) 2024.
