A Multi-tier Offloading Optimization Strategy for Consumer Electronics in Vehicular Edge computing

—In the domain of consumer electronics, vehicular edge computing (VEC) technology is emerging as a novel data processing paradigm within vehicular networks. By sending tasks related to vehicular applications to the edge, this model makes it easier for computing power to be spread out. This lets interactive services respond quickly. Nevertheless, the computational resources at edge servers are inherently limited and often tasked with handling multiple concurrent operations. The inefficacious allocation of these resources significantly impairs the efficiency of task offloading. Additionally, indiscriminate offloading could overwhelm the servers, detrimentally impacting the performance of subsequent tasks. To circumvent these challenges, this study introduces a multi-tier offloading model predicated on game theory principles. This framework aims to optimize resource utilization at the edge while accounting for server load to ensure the timely execution of latency-sensitive tasks. To evaluate this model, this paper created a simulation environment specifically for video game tasks in consumer electronics. The experimental results show that the multi-tier offloading model can effectively relieve the load pressure on the edge server. The task failure rate of the multi-tier offloading model remains at the lowest level compared with several state-of-the-art algorithms, significantly reducing the execution delay of tasks and being able to meet the requirements of consumer electronics applications. © 2025 IEEE.

Quantum software engineering is an emerging genre of software engineering that exploit principles of quantum bits (Qubit) and quantum gates (Qgates) to solve complex computing problems effeciently than their classical counterparts. According to its proponents, agile software development practices have the potential to address many of the problems endemic to the development of quantum software. However, there is a dearth of evidence investigating whether agile practices are suitable for, and can be adopted by, software teams in the context of quantum software development. To address this lack, we conducted an empirical study to investigate the needs and challenges of using agile practices to develop quantum software. While our semi-structured interviews with 26 practitioners across 10 countries highlighted the applicability of agile practices in this domain, the interview findings also revealed new challenges impeding the effective incorporation of these practices. Our research findings provide a springboard for further contextualization and seamless integration of agile practices in quantum software engineering (QSE) to develop emerging and next generation of quantum software systems and application.

Quantum systems have started to emerge as a disruptive technology and enabling platforms-exploiting the principles of quantum mechanics-to achieve quantum supremacy in computing. Academic research, industrial projects (e.g., Amazon Braket), and consortiums like 'Quantum Flagship' are striving to develop practically capable and commercially viable quantum computing (QC) systems and technologies. Quantum computing as a Service (QCaaS) is viewed as a solution attuned to the philosophy of service-orientation that can offer QC resources and platforms, as utility computing, to individuals and organisations who do not own quantum computers. To understand the quantum service development life cycle and pinpoint emerging trends, we used evidence-based software engineering approach to conduct a systematic mapping study (SMS) of research that enables or enhances QCaaS. The SMS process retrieved a total of 55 studies, and based on their qualitative assessment we selected 9 of them to investigate (i) the functional aspects, design models, patterns, programming languages, deployment platforms, and (ii) trends of emerging research on QCaaS. The results indicate three modelling notations and a catalogue of five design patterns to architect QCaaS, whereas Python (native code or frameworks) and Amazon Braket are the predominant solutions to implement and deploy QCaaS solutions. From the quantum software engineering (QSE) perspective, this SMS provides empirically grounded findings that could help derive processes, patterns, and reference architectures to engineer software services for QC. © 2023, CC BY.

The Mobile crowdsourcing network (MCN) leverages collaborative intelligence to solve complex tasks through group cooperation. It comprises three main components: the end-user, the service provider, and the mobile user. The end-user requests crowd-sensing and computing services from the service provider, who handles task decomposition, distribution, re-composition, and recommendation. Mobile users perform the crowd sensing and computing tasks. Despite its benefits, MCN faces significant security and privacy challenges. Communications between the service provider and the end-user involve sensitive data, and mobile users and service providers communicate over open channels, making them vulnerable to security threats. To address these concerns, we propose a secure authentication framework for MCN, called SAF-MCN. This framework combines the lightweight cryptographic primitive ' ASCON' with elliptic curve cryptography. SAF-MCN allows the service provider to authenticate mobile users before they join the MCN. Once authenticated, a secure channel is established for encrypted communication over the public Internet. The security of SAFMCN is validated using both formal and informal methods, demonstrating its resilience against potential attacks. The use of Scyther further ensures the security of SAF-MCN. Comparative analysis shows that SAF-MCN is superior in terms of security features, computational efficiency, and communication cost. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

To solve complex real-world problems, heuristics and concept-based approaches can be used in order to incorporate information into the problem. In this study, a concept-based approach called variable functioning (F x) is introduced to reduce the optimization variables and narrow down the search space. In this method, the relationships among one or more subset of variables are defined with functions using information prior to optimization;thus, instead of modifying the variables in the search process, the function variables are optimized. By using problem structure analysis technique and engineering expert knowledge, the F x method is used to enhance the steel frame design optimization process as a complex real-world problem. The proposed approach is coupled with particle swarm optimization and differential evolution algorithms and used for three case studies. The algorithms are applied to optimize the case studies by considering the relationships among column cross-section areas. The results show that Fx can significantly improve both the convergence rate and the final design of a frame structure, even if it is only used for seeding. © 2022, CC BY.

Quantum computing systems rely on the principles of quantum mechanics to perform a multitude of computationally challenging tasks more efficiently than their classical counterparts. The architecture of software-intensive systems can empower architects who can leverage architecture-centric processes, practices, description languages to model, develop, and evolve quantum computing software (quantum software for short) at higher abstraction levels. We conducted a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to investigate (i) architectural process, (ii) modeling notations, (iii) architecture design patterns, (iv) tool support, and (iv) challenging factors for quantum software architecture. Results of the SLR indicate that quantum software represents a new genre of software-intensive systems;however, existing processes and notations can be tailored to derive the architecting activities and develop modeling languages for quantum software. Quantum bits (Qubits) mapped to Quantum gates (Qugates) can be represented as architectural components and connectors that implement quantum software. Tool-chains can incorporate reusable knowledge and human roles (e.g., quantum domain engineers, quantum code developers) to automate and customize the architectural process. Results of this SLR can facilitate researchers and practitioners to develop new hypotheses to be tested, derive reference architectures, and leverage architecture-centric principles and practices to engineer emerging and next generations of quantum software. © 2022, CC BY.

In recent years, the global Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) industry has evolved at a tremendous speed. Security and privacy are key concerns on the IoMT, owing to the huge scale and deployment of IoMT networks. Machine learning (ML) and blockchain (BC) technologies have significantly enhanced the capabilities and facilities of healthcare 5.0, spawning a new area known as "Smart Healthcare." By identifying concerns early, a smart healthcare system can help avoid long-term damage. This will enhance the quality of life for patients while reducing their stress and healthcare costs. The IoMT enables a range of functionalities in the field of information technology, one of which is smart and interactive health care. However, combining medical data into a single storage location to train a powerful machine learning model raises concerns about privacy, ownership, and compliance with greater concentration. Federated learning (FL) overcomes the preceding difficulties by utilizing a centralized aggregate server to disseminate a global learning model. Simultaneously, the local participant keeps control of patient information, assuring data confidentiality and security. This article conducts a comprehensive analysis of the findings on blockchain technology entangled with federated learning in healthcare. 5.0. The purpose of this study is to construct a secure health monitoring system in healthcare 5.0 by utilizing a blockchain technology and Intrusion Detection System (IDS) to detect any malicious activity in a healthcare network and enables physicians to monitor patients through medical sensors and take necessary measures periodically by predicting diseases. The proposed system demonstrates that the approach is optimized effectively for healthcare monitoring. Cancer is a major cause of death for many people around the world. There are a number of types of cancers and they are curable; only if it is detected at its early stages. Skin cancer has increasing victims all around the world. Many Computers based diagnoses have been developed to deal with this disease and help the physician to classify and detect the occurrence of the cancer. In this study, a reliable methodology has been proposed to deal with the lung's cancer classification based upon the data of 3600 pictures (224 x 224). There are two classes of images: Malignant and benign. Each class contains 1800 images. A reliable system is developed using a Convolutional Neural Network and fully connected layers. The proposed model improved the accuracy to 86.23% with efficient computations.

Recently, there has been increasing awareness of the tremendous opportunities inherent in quantum computing (QC). Specifically, the speed and efficiency of QC will significantly impact the Internet of Things, cryptography, finance, and marketing. Accordingly, there has been increased QC research funding from national and regional governments and private firms. However, critical concerns regarding legal, political, and business-related policies germane to QC adoption exist. Since this is an emerging and highly technical domain, most of the existing studies focus heavily on the technical aspects of QC, but our study highlights its practical and social uses cases, which are needed for the increased interest of governments. Thus, this study offers a multidisciplinary review of QC, drawing on the expertise of scholars from a wide range of disciplines whose insights coalesce into a framework that simplifies the understanding of QC, identifies possible areas of market disruption and offer empirically based recommendations that are critical for forecasting, planning, and strategically positioning QCs for accelerated diffusion. © 2022, CC BY.

In recent times, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are broadly utilized in targeted monitoring applications. Traditional target coverage techniques usually consider that environment is known completely and every target is covered by single sensor. However those algorithms are inflexible when the sensor is about to die, that is, lack of energy and therefore target has to be covered with more than a sensor which is termed as n coverage crisis. In general, n coverage problem is energy and time consuming process, as well sensor organization is needed all the time. To resolve this crisis, this work anticipates a n coverage model with VCH-PSO (Virtual Cluster Head based Particle Swarm Optimization and EFLM (Energy management based Fuzzy logic Model) to enlarge the lifetime of WSN. During the search of optimal area coverage, diverse factors like node position, energy consumption, and coverage range of sensors are considered significantly. Simulation was carried out in MATLAB environment and compared with prevailing techniques. The proposed model shows better trade off in terms of network lifetime and time needed for switching between various coverage regions. © 2020 IEEE.
