With the growing popularity of Object-Realational Mapping (ORM) Frameworks, the performance requirements of the applications that implement them are also growing. Thus, it is necessary to examine whether our proposed Intelligent Data Layer (IDL) can handle application requests efficiently enough compared to conventional ORM Framework implementations. Thus, an environment has been created to simulate the behavior of the application on a production server. From the queries performed and the data collected, it will then be evaluated whether IDL is suitable for use in a production environment and how much of an asset it can be in a practical environment. © 2024 IEEE.

Image processing has become an important tool in various fields of human activity. One of its important applications lies in the determination of the size and dimensions of an object. Thus, in the present paper, we deal with the contactless measurement of triangular components, which was found to have certain limitations once performed on a production line in real time. These are (i) low quality output with unclear rotation in the space of a 3D scanner (missing accurate Cartesian coordinate system rotation data) and (ii) fully autonomous measurement for the selected shape of the component (no manual data tweaking as possible in the laboratory). Besides measurement, the application program contains preprocessing, such as segmentation or removing outliers. But we focus on just the key problem of measurement, i.e., finding the best-fitting hyperplane through three preprocessed point clouds and measuring the sides of the triangle projected onto the hyperplane. The problem is solved by orthogonal linear regression utilizing the Principal Component Analysis approach. © 2024 IEEE.

The article builds on research focused on the design and construction of an Intelligent Data Layer (IDL) using Object-Relational Mapping (ORM) frameworks, which can sometimes be inefficient. The aim of this article is to verify whether IDL functions as an optimization technique in different hardware environments. Previous research has shown that IDL can significantly improve the performance of applications, especially in loading and processing large amounts of data. However, this improvement was observed on standard test hardware. Therefore, we conducted this testing, which includes tests on different hardware configurations, specifically a server and a test workstation. The tests focus on data retrieval speed, memory usage efficiency, and overall application performance when using IDL compared to traditional approaches. The results of the tests will help determine whether IDL is a universal optimization technique or whether its effectiveness depends on specific hardware conditions. This knowledge is crucial for us for the future development and deployment of IDL in real-world applications. The experiments were conducted in an environment with an Nginx web server, PHP, and a MySQL database. The tested implementation runs on Symfony and Doctrine. For the individual experiments, a relational database model from previous work was used, which included tables with varying numbers of rows. © 2024 IEEE.

Determining choices can be a challenging task for consumers. Recommendation systems serve as tools to provide suggestions, aiding users in decision-making processes. A major concern in recommendation systems is the issue of diversity, particularly in content-based approaches where recommendations are based on the attributes of items that users have previously liked. This can lead to overspecialization, where the system provides recommendations that are highly similar to each other, reducing the variety or diversity of suggestions. To address this issue, this research focuses on improving the recommendations diversity in a content-based filtering system. The proposed method in this study can be applied to recommendation systems that focus on improving recommendation diversity. The method used to improve recommendation diversity is the implementation of a similarity threshold. This threshold acts as a filtering mechanism, ensuring that the recommended items fall within a specific similarity range relative to the user's preferences, calculated using cosine similarity. Additionally, clustering is used to compare the performance of the model with and without cluster labels. The results demonstrate that applying a similarity threshold effectively enhances recommendation diversity, as reflected by improved individual diversity scores. Notably, the highest individual diversity values were achieved at the first threshold with top-n = 30, where scores reached 0.8240 without cluster labels and 0.8750 with cluster labels. © 2024 IEEE.

In this work, we propose a concentrator lens - antenna arrangement, potentially suitable for infrared sensing and energy harvesting rectenna systems. The structure consists of a pixel antenna, self-adapting for the direction of the incident infrared radiation, and a concentrator lens, both optimized for the mid-infrared spectrum. The silicon substrate lens is situated above the pixel antenna, enabling the concentration of the incident light on the antenna;silicon was chosen due to its transparency in the IR spectrum. We examine how various parameters of the lens, in conjunction with the different states of the pixel antenna, affects the performance of the system. The simulations show that the gain of the arrangement increases considerably in correlation with the radius of the lens. The results suggest that the energy conversion efficiency of infrared rectenna systems can be enhanced by several orders of magnitude with the utilization of the proposed arrangement. © 2025 Budapest University of Technology and Economics. Effective and environmentally friendly Co nanocatalyst on sodium borohydride hydrolysis in different solvents

This study investigates the development and performance of a cobalt (Co) nanocatalyst supported by carbon quantum dots (CQDs) for hydrogen production via sodium borohydride (NaBH₄) hydrolysis. The CQDs were synthesized using a hydrothermal method from caffeine and subsequently used to support the cobalt catalyst. The structure and properties of the synthesized catalyst were characterized using techniques such as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDX). The catalytic performance was evaluated in various solvents, with the highest hydrogen production rate observed in ethanol. The optimal conditions for Co@CQDs catalyst synthesis were identified as an 8-h hydrothermal treatment with a 3 mmol metal loading. The catalyst demonstrated excellent reusability, maintaining 100% hydrogen production efficiency after seven cycles. The activation energy for the hydrolysis reaction was found to be lower for catalysts synthesized in ethanol (25.48 kJ mol−1) compared to those synthesized in water (35.57 kJ mol−1), indicating enhanced catalytic activity. Under optimum conditions, the hydrolysis reaction in the presence of Co@CQDs (water) catalyst produced 23753 mL min−1 g−1 of hydrogen, while the hydrolysis reaction in the presence of Co@CQDs (ethanol) catalyst produced 28751 mL min−1 g−1. This study highlights the potential of CQDs-supported Co nanocatalysts for efficient and sustainable hydrogen production. © 2025 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC

In this study, a novel Ni-based catalyst supported on carbon quantum dots (CQDs), synthesized from caffeine via a green hydrothermal method was developed to enhance hydrogen generation. The effects of different solvents, including water, and ethanol, on the catalyst's performance were explored. The results demonstrate that the Ni@CQDs catalyst prepared in ethanol exhibited superior hydrogen production rates due to improved nickel dispersion and higher surface area, as confirmed by BET, XPS, and XRD analyses. Ethanol was found to effectively modify the catalyst, resulting in faster H₂ conversion compared to water. The HGR values obtained with catalysts synthesized in water and ethanol were 4662, and 12262 mL min−1g−1, respectively. The study also investigated the impact of KOH concentration, catalyst loading, KBH4 concentration, and temperature on the hydrolysis process. The Ni@CQDs catalyst synthesized in ethanol achieved optimal performance at higher KBH₄ and KOH concentrations, producing 100% H2 yield over six reusability cycles with minimal loss of catalytic efficiency. Thermodynamic analysis using the Arrhenius and Eyring-Polanyi equations indicated that the catalyst in ethanol had a lower activation energy, enhancing the hydrolysis reaction rate. The Ni@CQDs (ethanol) catalyst exhibited a significantly higher TOF of 1696 h⁻1 at 4% KBH4 concentration and a lower activation energy (Ea) of 33.78 kJ mol−1 compared to the Ni@CQDs (water) catalyst, which had a TOF of 601.5 h⁻1 at 2% KBH4 concentration and an Ea of 38.93 kJ mol−1, indicating superior catalytic efficiency with ethanol as the solvent. © 2024 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC

Information technologies are one of the most prospective fields at universities. The number of young people interested in this science is increasing from year to year. One of the essential parts of IT is security and data protection. Many students perceive this industry as complicated and, therefore, unattractive. If we want to change it, we must focus on introducing emerging technologies in education. These technologies should be chosen so that they motivate the students but at the same time so that the level of acquired knowledge does not drop. Their goal is to make studying this field more attractive and easier for students. The article presents examples of new approaches to security and data protection. This article introduces several standards and concrete tools required for them. © 2023 IEEE.

The investigation into the dielectric properties of transformer oils has been a focal point in both historical and contemporary electric insulation technology as high-voltage applications have greatly benefited from the continuous research efforts in this field. The dielectric permittivity is one of the factors to be negotiated when discussing the electric insulation of any material. This work aims to showcase a new short-circuited coaxial cable method to evaluate the complex dielectric permittivity of palm, sunflower and rapeseed oil and review other previously used measurement techniques. Mainly, the test was performed using a sample holder that represents a short-ended coaxial cable filled with the test material which is connected to one port of a vector network analyser. The measurements of the input impedance for various oil samples were conducted at frequencies ranging from 1 MHz to 10 MHz. The technique uses the value of the input impedance which depends on the reflected signals from the test sample to the network analyser, consequently, the value of the dielectric permittivity and dielectric loss have been calculated using the short circuit impedance formula which involves numerical methods to get the results which shows that this method can be used as an alternative to investigate the oils insulation parameters as it provides smooth results for permittivity without any divergence, ensuring more reliable and consistent measurements as well as providing high accuracy in determining the permittivity of materials. © 2024 Budapest University of Technology and Economics. Data-driven approaches to sustainable phase change material selection in latent heat storage systems

This research investigates sustainable phase change materials (PCMs) for latent heat thermal energy storage systems using data-driven machine learning models. Activated biochar is incorporated as a support material to improve the PCM’s thermal conductivity and leak resistance during phase transition, with multi-walled carbon nanotubes further enhancing thermal conductivity. The phase change kinetics of the PCM composites are analyzed using Kissinger, Ozawa, and Starink kinetic models, revealing that both activated biochar and carbon nanotubes significantly reduce activation energy. Several machine learning models including Linear Regression, Polynomial Regression, Decision Tree, and Random Forest regression are developed to predict differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) data of the composites. Results indicate that Linear Regression performed inadequately, with an R² of 0.359 and RMSE of 0.153, failing to predict the DSC data complexity. Polynomial Regression improved prediction accuracy, achieving an R² of 0.875 and RMSE of 0.067. The Decision Tree model achieved high accuracy (R² of 0.9998 and RMSE of 0.003), effectively capturing non-linear patterns. Random Forest regression outperformed all models, with an R² of 0.9998 and RMSE of 0.0025, demonstrating the robustness and reliability of ensemble methods for predicting PCM composite behavior. As a result, a random forest regression model was successfully used to predict experimental DSC data, providing a better understanding of the thermophysical properties and phase change kinetics of PCM composites. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Iranian Society of Environmentalists (IRSEN) and Science and Research Branch, Islamic Azad University 2025.
