We describe a new concept and method for evaluating the Web information credibility. The quality control of information (text, image, video etc.) on the Web is generally insufficient due to low publishing barriers. As a result, there is a large amount of mistaken and unreliable information on the Web that can have detrimental effects on users. This calls for technology that facilitates the judging of the credibility (expertise and trustworthiness) of Web content and the accuracy of the information that users encounter on the Web. Such technology should be able to handle a wide range of tasks: extracting several credibility-related features from the target Web content, extracting reputation-related information for the target Web content, such as hyperlinks and social bookmarks and evaluating its distribution, and evaluating features of the target content authors. We propose and describe methodologies of analyzing information credibility of Web information: (1) content analysis, (2) social support analysis and (3) author analysis. We overview our recent research activities on Web information credibility evaluation based on this methodologies. © 2010 ACM.

The paper presents the main ideas of two Leonardo da Vinci (LdV) projects focused on the vocational training. The selected outputs of these projects are presented in more details. The conception of the multilingual terminological dictionary and proposed graphical user interface is also presented in the paper. An example of practical exercises in the area of NGN protocols based on remote access to NGN Lab is described and illustrated.

In this paper we present a method for automatically generating optimal robot trajectories satisfying high level mission specifications. The motion of the robot in the environment is modeled as a weighted transition system. The mission is specified by a general linear temporal logic formula. In addition, we require that an optimizing proposition must be repeatedly satisfied. The cost function that we seek to minimize is the maximum time between satisfying instances of the optimizing proposition. For every environment model, and for every formula, our method computes a robot trajectory which minimizes the cost function. The problem is motivated by robotic monitoring and data gathering. In this setting, the optimizing proposition is satisfied at locations where data can be uploaded, and the formula specifies a an infinite horizon data collection mission. Our method utilizes Büchi automata to produce an automaton (which can be thought of as a graph) whose runs satisfy the temporal logic formula. We then present a graph algorithm which computes a path corresponding to the optimal robot trajectory. We also present an implementation for a robot performing a data gathering mission.

National and ethnic mutation databases (NEMDBs) are emerging online repositories, recording extensive infor-mation about the described genetic heterogeneity of an ethnic group or population. These resources facilitate the provision of genetic services and provide a comprehensive list of genomic variations among different popu-lations. As such, they enhance awareness of the various genetic disorders. Here, we describe the features of the ETHNOS software, a simple but versatile tool based on a flat-file database that is specifically designed for the development and curation of NEMDBs. ETHNOS is a freely available software which runs more than half of the NEMDBs currently available. Given the emerging need for NEMDB in genetic testing services and the fact that ETHNOS is the only off-the-shelf software available for NEMDB development and curation, its adoption in subsequent NEMDB development would contribute towards data content uniformity, unlike the diverse contents and quality of the available gene (locus)-specific databases. Finally, we allude to the potential applications of NEMDBs, not only as worldwide central allele frequency repositories, but also, and most importantly, as data warehouses of individual-level genomic data, hence allowing for a comprehensive ethnicity-specific documentation of genomic variation. © HENRY STEWART PUBLICATIONS 1479–7364.

Based on theoretical methods for synthesis of complementary signals briefly below, the authors have developed a new algorithm and software for automated synthesis of Direct sequence complementary codes. The authors propose a numerical method for analysis and comparison of this types synthesize Complementary codes with well - know code sequences like Barker and Z-complementary codes. Build on the autocorrelation and ambiguity functions of signals, the numerical method estimates the volume of sidelobes separately for each signal. The results are obtained using the specialized software in MATLAB R2007b.

This paper studies the problem of increasing the efficiency in controlling burst errors that are caused by external noise in the context of digital data transmission. For this purpose, the utilization of special weighted check sum modification has been proposed. Indeed, an algorithm for burst error control is presented and its use is illustrated via the presentation of an example in order to show that the technique proposed in this paper ensures superior data transmission error control effectiveness compared with already known codes.

Google has recently released the video compression format VP8 to the open source community. This new compression format competes against the existing H.264 video standard developed by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) in collaboration with the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). This paper compares these two video coding standards in terms of video bit rate-distortion (quality) performance and the video network traffic variability with different long video sequences. We find that VP8 presently does not fulfill its promise to achieve twice the quality at half the bandwidth compared to H.264. The rate-distortion (RD) performance of VP8 is rather slightly below the RD performance of H.264. On the positive side, in contrast to H.264, VP8 has no license fees.

This paper suggests a new stability analysis approach dedicated to a class of fuzzy control systems controlling multi input-multi output (MIMO) nonlinear processes by means of Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy logic controllers. The approach is based on LaSalle's global invariant set theorem, and an original stability theorem offers sufficient stability conditions. The applicability and efficiency of the theoretical results are illustrated by a MIMO case study dealing with the fuzzy control of a spherical three tank system.

Modern machine learning techniques have encouraged interest in the development of vehicle health monitoring systems that ensure secure and reliable operations of rail vehicles. In an earlier study, an energy-efficient data acquisition method was investigated to develop a monitoring system for railway applications using modern machine learning techniques, more specific classification algorithms. A suitable classifier was proposed for railway monitoring based on relative weighted performance metrics. To improve the performance of the existing approach, a rule-based learning method using statistical analysis has been proposed in this paper to select a unique classifier for the same application. This selected algorithm works more efficiently and improves the overall performance of the railway monitoring systems. This study has been conducted using six classifiers, namely REPTree, J48, Decision Stump, IBK, PART and OneR, with twenty-five datasets. The Waikato Environment for Knowledge Analysis (WEKA) learning tool has been used in this study to develop the prediction models.
