Prevailing approaches to analyze embedded software performance either require the deployment of the software on the embedded target, which can be tedious and may be impossible in an early development phase, or rely on simulation, which can be extremely slow. We promote cross-profiling as an alternative approach, which is particularly well suited for embedded Java processors. The embedded software is profiled in any standard Java Virtual Machine in a host environment, but the generated cross-profile estimates the execution time on the target. We implemented our approach in the customizable cross-profiler CProf, which generates calling-context cross-profiles. Each calling-context stores dynamic metrics, such as the estimated CPU cycle consumption on the target. We visualize the generated calling-context cross-profiles as ring charts, where callee methods are represented in segments surrounding the caller's segment. As the size of each segment corresponds to the relative CPU consumption of the corresponding calling-context, the visualization eases the location of performance bottlenecks in embedded Java software, revealing hot methods, as well as their callers and callees, at one glance. A New Approach to Graph Recognition and Applications to Distance-Hereditary Graphs

Algorithms used in data mining and bioinformatics have to deal with huge amount of data efficiently. In many applications, the data are supposed to have explicit or implicit structures. To develop efficient algorithms for such data, we have to propose possible structure models and test if the models are feasible. Hence, it is important to make a compact model for structured data, and enumerate all instances efficiently. There are few graph classes besides trees that can be used for a model. In this paper, we investigate distance-hereditary graphs. This class of graphs consists of isometric graphs and hence contains trees and cographs. First, a canonical and compact tree representation of the class is proposed. The tree representation can be constructed in linear time by using prefix trees. Usually, prefix trees are used to maintain a set of strings. In our algorithm, the prefix trees are used to maintain the neighborhood of vertices, which is a new approach unlike the lexicographically breadth-first search used in other studies. Based on the canonical tree representation, efficient algorithms for the distance-hereditary graphs are proposed, including linear time algorithms for graph recognition and graph isomorphism and an efficient enumeration algorithm. An efficient coding for the tree representation is also presented; it requires [3.59n] bits for a distance-hereditary graph of n vertices and 3n bits for a cograph. The results of coding improve previously known upper bounds （both are 2^O（nlogn）） of the number of distance-hereditary graphs and cographs to 2^[3.59n] and 2^3n, respectively.

Scientists typically need to take a large volume of information into account in order to deal with re-occurring tasks such as inspecting proceedings, finding related work, or reviewing papers. Our work aims at filling the gap between text documents and a structured representations of their content in the domain of resilient computing by combining computer linguistics and on-tological methods. The results of our research include: a thesaurus of the domain, automatic clustering of the domain documents, a domain ontology, and a tool for constructing ontologies with the aid of domain thesauri. In this study, e-government studies in Turkey have been observed and analyzed in details. To move e-government application for overall Turkey, there might be some problems to use and integrate current applications of public institutions. In this study, these problems have been investigated and solutions have been proposed. E-government applications of Portugal, United States, and Singapore have been observed and compared with studies in Turkey. Services which have been done by public institutions via their web sites have been investigated in details and how they can be integrated was discussed and some proposals have been given to establish the e-government successfully as soon as possible. © 2009 IADIS.

This paper introduces a method for better communication between collaborating engineers and between engineer and entity generation processes at the definition of products in modeling systems. The authors recognized the importance of correct human-computer-human communication by using of product model as a special medium for engineers. In order to establish a product model that is appropriate for this purpose, they integrated all influencing effects on a product in an influencing space. In order to record content of influencing by engineers and other influencing persons, authorities, etc., the currently prevailing information based product model is completed by representation of information content. This paper emphasizes some relevant issues of information content. Definition of this contents starts from modeling of human intent. Intent model is consists of information about the owner of an intent, characteristics of that intent, and representation of content of intent in some form of knowledge. Information content is organized in the interconnected intent, behavior, and decision spaces. In a hierarchical system, intent space is at the highest and decision space is at the lowest level hierarchy assuring human intent based automation of decision making on engineering object in an improved product model. ©2009IEEE.

Here we present a motion tracking algorithm and a fast river detection algorithm using a near infrared camera on-board an UAV. These algorithms have to run on a slow PC104. The motion tracking algorithm is based on the Normalized Cross-Correlation and the river detection algorithm uses Meyer's Watershed method. Simulation results with a video are presented.

This paper reports on the first steps taken in search of a solution that uses public video streams available on the Internet to address the increasing need for monitoring transportation networks with the intent of returning added value to the community, either by allowing a better understanding of the network and its needs or by feeding applications with real-time information for various purposes, such as simulation, decision-making support and updated route guidance. After the introduction of the field, we present our findings from a survey that briefly describes several works with related studies and explain the algorithms that can be adopted to get relevant information from video streams. This is followed by an analysis of the issues that may arise and the best ways to address them. Next it reports on the results achieved so far, draws some conclusions on what has been done and suggests the next steps of our research. © 2009 IEEE.

The National Social Equality in Information and Communication Technology Master Plan provides a three-year road map for bridging the digital divide, supporting the use of assistive technology and promoting the creation of an assistive technology industry so that the disabled in Thailand will be able to afford the acquisition of the assistive technology. After the first year of implementation, 42% of the Year 1 projects have been implemented, with satisfactory results. The main output has been the training of 150 web designers who can handle the redesign of government websites to conform to the WCAG 1.0 standard at an AA conformance level. Three government websites have been transformed to attain AA conformance as initial pilot projects. © ACM 2009.

The most common cause of traffic accidents is arguably the driver error due to lack of attention. And it is very unlikely this is going to change soon thanks to increasingly cell-phone usage, in-car entertainment systems, and naturally the more frequent traffic jams in highly populated areas. Autonomous vehicles, such as driverless cars, are a promising approach to decrease traffic accidents, as well as congestions. To test this approach, simulations are a safer, more efficient, and cheaper way than live testing. This paper presents an approach to implement a simulator to test such vehicles. It includes a study of the state of the art in driverless car simulation and discusses on the specific objectives that this particular simulator aims to achieve in order to aid testing the interactions of multiple driverless cars in urban networks. © 2009 IEEE.

The results of a search for pair production of the scalar partners of bottom quarks in 2.05 fb−1 of pp collisions at s=7 TeV using the ATLAS experiment are reported. Scalar bottom quarks are searched for in events with large missing transverse momentum and two jets in the final state, where both jets are identified as originating from a bottom quark. In an R-parity conserving minimal supersymmetric scenario, assuming that the scalar bottom quark decays exclusively into a bottom quark and a neutralino, 95% confidence-level upper limits are obtained in the b˜1−χ˜10 mass plane such that for neutralino masses below 60 GeV scalar bottom masses up to 390 GeV are excluded.
