In this paper we present measurement of eye patterns and their analysis for InGaP/GaAs DHBTs between 1 and 3 Gb/s PRBS signal. Eye diagrams have been measured and also simulated for comparison and further analysis. By adopting a robust direct parameter extraction technique all the small signal parameters of the DHBTs are deduced and are then used to simulate the corresponding eye patterns. The necessary procedure for simulating eye patterns is established in ADS so as the extraction of important eye parameters such as the eye height, amplitude, signal to noise ratio, rise and fall times. The eye parameters deteriorate with increase in frequency leading to the closure of the eye. An attempt has been made to recognise the main physical parameters of the device which influence the shape and formation of the eye diagrams and the observations has been discussed in this paper. These results provide an insight into device optimisation for user specified eye diagrams. © 2007 EuMA.

An interval change detection method for two chest X-ray images with different rotation angles of the human body and its performance evaluation

This paper proposes a detection procedure for the interval change of two chest X-ray images with different rotation angles of the human body around the axis parallel to the projection plane (such as anterior-posterior inclination and rotation around the body axis). The difference in angles causes shadow exchange between two images, which is difficult to handle precisely by the conventional position alignment procedure using nonlinear deformation. We developed a novel alignment procedure for each depth which was inspired by the fact that the position of the shadow on the X-ray image depends on the 3D depth (distance from the X-ray source) of the tissue which corresponds to the shadow. In this paper, the results of applying the proposed method to X-ray images taken from a chest phantom and an actual human body are presented and the effectiveness of the method is discussed. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Using the Internet for electronic business has become an area of action for the Australian government. This paper presents research results from two regional areas, which indicate that while most manufacturing SMEs use e-mail, very few are involved in electronic commerce activities. Major barriers are concern about security and privacy of transactions, cost of consultants, and lack of IT expertise of staff. Employing people with appropriate knowledge has been added to current training methods such as on-the-job training. Results from the two regional areas are found to be consistent. Comparisons between small and medium organisations highlight some differences. © 2003, MCB UP Limited

The world wide web (WWW) already accounts for more Internet network traffic than any other application, including email and simple file transfer. It is also a collaborative technology in a weak sense of the word - it allows people to share information. Synchronous collaboration is where an interactive activity is simultaneous and in real-time. computer based synchronous collaborative systems like shared whiteboards, collaborative editor etc. are only beginning to emerge recently. These applications involving more than two users exchanging information, require multicast communication. Multicast communication is a transmission mode that is now supported by a variety of local and wide area networks. Multicasting enables multiparty communication across a wide area to sparsely distributed groups by minimizing the network load. Multicasting itself is one of the key technologies in the next generation of the Internet. This paper describes the technical issues from the aspect of multicast communication and its reliability in synchronous collaborative application. © 2002 IEEE.

In the Time Warp (TW) protocol, the system state must be checkpointed to facilitate the rollback operation. While increasing the checkpointing frequency increases the state saving cost, an infrequent scheme also escalates the coast forward effort when a large number of executed events are redone. This paper proposes a probabilistic approach to checkpointing. We derive the rollback probability, and compute the expected coast forward effort if a state is not saved. To reduce implementation overheads, the rollback probability and coast forward cost are predetermined and make available at runtime as a lookup table. Based on the derived expectation, a store vector is saved only if the expected coast forward effort is larger than the state saving cost and vice versa. Our experiments show that the cost model reduces the simulation elapsed time by close to 30% as compared to saving the system state after each event execution, and saving the system state at a predefined interval.

working group wishes to promote interaction of computer scientists and educational researchers. Such an interaction would benefit not only educational sciences and computer science education but also contribute to computer science e.g. through behaviour metaphors in robotics. We have initiated an analysis of computer uses in education starting from applications especially in science and technology education. Having analysed various roles of computers in educational processes in the above area we have also identified technological requirements of modern learning environments and defined the concept of a rich learning environment. We use the Open Market metaphor to concretise this concept in two different cases. Finally, we present as an outcome of our cooperative analysis basic goals for technological literacy and a description of a technology literate student.
