An Improved Binary Quantum-based Avian Navigation Optimizer Algorithm to Select Effective Feature Subset from Medical data:A COVID-19 Case Study

Feature Subset Selection(FSS)is an NP-hard problem to remove redundant and irrelevant features particularly from medical data,and it can be effectively addressed by metaheuristic ***,existing binary versions of metaheuristic algorithms have issues with convergence and lack an effective binarization method,resulting in suboptimal solutions that hinder diagnosis and prediction *** paper aims to propose an Improved Binary Quantum-based Avian Navigation Optimizer Algorithm(IBQANA)for FSS in medical data preprocessing to address the suboptimal solutions arising from binary versions of metaheuristic *** proposed IBQANA’s contributions include the Hybrid Binary Operator(HBO)and the Distance-based Binary Search Strategy(DBSS).HBO is designed to convert continuous values into binary solutions,even for values outside the[0,1]range,ensuring accurate binary *** the other hand,DBSS is a two-phase search strategy that enhances the performance of inferior search agents and accelerates *** combining exploration and exploitation phases based on an adaptive probability function,DBSS effectively avoids local *** effectiveness of applying HBO is compared with five transfer function families and thresholding on 12 medical datasets,with feature numbers ranging from 8 to 10,***'s effectiveness is evaluated regarding the accuracy,fitness,and selected features and compared with seven binary metaheuristic ***,IBQANA is utilized to detect *** results reveal that the proposed IBQANA outperforms all comparative algorithms on COVID-19 and 11 other medical *** proposed method presents a promising solution to the FSS problem in medical data preprocessing.

An Effective Hybridization of Quantum-based Avian Navigation and Bonobo Optimizers to Solve Numerical and Mechanical engineering Problems

Hybrid metaheuristic algorithms play a prominent role in improving algorithms' searchability by combining each algorithm's advantages and minimizing any substantial shortcomings. The Quantum-based Avian Navigation Optimizer Algorithm (QANA) is a recent metaheuristic algorithm inspired by the navigation behavior of migratory birds. Different experimental results show that QANA is a competitive and applicable algorithm in different optimization fields. However, it suffers from shortcomings such as low solution quality and premature convergence when tackling some complex problems. Therefore, instead of proposing a new algorithm to solve these weaknesses, we use the advantages of the bonobo optimizer to improve global search capability and mitigate premature convergence of the original QANA. The effectiveness of the proposed Hybrid Quantum-based Avian Navigation Optimizer Algorithm (HQANA) is assessed on 29 test functions of the CEC 2018 benchmark test suite with different dimensions, 30, 50, and 100. The results are then statistically investigated by the Friedman test and compared with the results of eight well-known optimization algorithms, including PSO, KH, GWO, WOA, CSA, HOA, BO, and QANA. Ultimately, five constrained engineering optimization problems from the latest test suite, CEC 2020 are used to assess the applicability of HQANA to solve complex real-world engineering optimization problems. The experimental and statistical findings prove that the proposed HQANA algorithm is superior to the comparative algorithms.

A map reduce-based big data clustering using swarm-inspired meta-heuristic algorithms

Clustering is one of the important methods in data analysis. For big data, clustering is difficult due to the volume of data and the complexity of clustering algorithms. Therefore, methods that can handle a large amount of data clustering at the reasonable time are required. MapReduce is a powerful programming model that allows parallel algorithms to run in distributed computing environments. In this study, an improved artificial bee colony algorithm based on a MapReduce clustering model (MR-CWABC) is proposed. The weighted average without greedy selection of the results improves the local and global search of ABC. The improved algorithm is implemented in accordance with the MapReduce model on the Hadoop framework to allocate optimal samples to the clusters such that the compression and separation of the clusters are preserved. The proposed method is compared with some well-known bio-inspired algorithms such as particle swarm optimization (PSO), artificial bee colony (ABC) and gravitational search algorithm (GSA) implemented based on the MapReduce model on the Hadoop framework. The results showed that MR-CWABC is well-suited for big data, while maintaining clustering quality. The MR-CWABC demonstrates an improvement of 7.13%, 7.71% and 6.77% based on the average F-measure compared to MR-CABC, MR-CPSO, and MR-CGSA, respectively. © 2024 Sharif University of Technology. TD-LSTM: a time distributed and deep-learning-based architecture for classification of motor imagery and execution in EEG signals

One of the critical challenges in brain-computer interfaces is the classification of brain activities through the analysis of EEG signals. This paper seeks to improve the efficacy of deep learning-based rehabilitation systems, aiming to deliver superior services for individuals with physical disabilities. The research introduces the time distributed long short-term memory (TD-LSTM) framework, which incorporates an LSTM and a time distributed approach to classify brain activities. Learning in TD-LSTM is achieved by uncovering time-dependent semantic dependencies within EEG signals over time. By extracting all discriminative and relevant spatiotemporal dependencies via TD-LSTM, valuable information on different time steps in each sequence has been obtained. Time distributed approach shortens the input time series, making learning from long time series sequences easier, and the learning process of complex temporal and spatial dependencies in time series multi-channel EEG signals becomes more efficient. The main contributions in this paper can be outlined as follows: (1) implementation of brain activity binary classification of motor imagery/execution tasks using time distributed approach via RNN network for the first time, (2) evaluation of the performance and generalizability of the proposed method on four benchmark datasets, (3) dual-purpose classification which providing an efficient ways for classifying both types of motor imagery/execution brain activity. RE-SEGNN:recurrent semantic evidence-aware graph neural network for temporal knowledge graph forecasting

Temporal knowledge graph(TKG) reasoning, has seen widespread use for modeling real-world events, particularly in extrapolation settings. Nevertheless, most previous studies are embedded models, which require both entity and relation embedding to make predictions, ignoring the semantic correlations among different entities and relations within the same timestamp. This can lead to random and nonsensical predictions when unseen entities or relations occur. Furthermore, many existing models exhibit limitations in handling highly correlated historical facts with extensive temporal depth. They often either overlook such facts or overly accentuate the relationships between recurring past occurrences and their current counterparts. Due to the dynamic nature of TKG, effectively capturing the evolving semantics between different timestamps can be *** address these shortcomings, we propose the recurrent semantic evidenceaware graph neural network(RE-SEGNN), a novel graph neural network that can learn the semantics of entities and relations simultaneously. For the former challenge, our model can predict a possible answer to missing quadruples based on semantics when facing unseen entities or relations. For the latter problem, based on an obvious established force, both the recency and frequency of semantic history tend to confer a higher reference value for the current. We use the Hawkes process to compute the semantic trend, which allows the semantics of recent facts to gain more attention than those of distant facts. Experimental results show that RE-SEGNN outperforms all SOTA models in entity prediction on 6 widely used datasets, and 5 datasets in relation prediction. Furthermore, the case study shows how our model can deal with unseen entities and relations.

Resource investment for DDoS attack resistant SDN: a practical assessment

Software-defined networks(SDNs) present a novel network architecture that is widely used in various datacenters. However, SDNs also suffer from many types of security threats, among which a distributed denial of service(DDoS) attack, which aims to drain the resources of SDN switches and controllers,is one of the most common. Once the switch or controller is damaged, the network services can be *** defense schemes against DDoS attacks have been proposed from the perspective of attack detection;however, such defense schemes are known to suffer from a time consuming and unpromising accuracy, which could result in an unavailable network service before specific countermeasures are taken. To address this issue through a systematic investigation, we propose an elaborate resource-management mechanism against DDoS attacks in an SDN. Specifically, by considering the SDN topology, we leverage the M/M/c queuing model to measure the resistance of an SDN to DDoS attacks. Network administrators can therefore invest a reasonable number of resources into SDN switches and SDN controllers to defend against DDoS attacks while guaranteeing the quality of service(QoS). Comprehensive analyses and empirical data-based experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

As the most widely distributed vegetation type on Earth, grasslands are the second largest ecosystem after forests, and are known as the 'skin of the earth'. However, the frequency of rodent infestation has been increasing year by year in recent years due to climate change, loose soil and other factors. As the current traditional monitoring methods are time-consuming and laborious, while the deep learning method has the advantages of low cost, high efficiency and high accuracy. Therefore, this paper proposes a combination of UAV remote sensing and deep learning methods to monitor grassland mouse hole. First, because there is no publicly available grassland mouse hole dataset, this study used a UAV to capture images to create a grassland mouse hole dataset. Second, an improved YOLOv7 model, YOLOAPM, is proposed with the goal of improving the accuracy of small target recognition. Through ablation and comparison experiments, the validity of the improved model as well as the method of this paper are verified to be improved compared to other models. Finally, in order to facilitate the monitoring task of the researchers, a monitoring system is established and the mouse hole identification of this paper is embedded into the system. © 2024 IEEE.
