This paper presents a case study of a rotor fault occurring in the rotor generator of a steam power plant located in Lontar, Banten Province, Indonesia. The steam power plant has 3 x 315 MV capacity and uses hydrogen in the cooling system. The issue arising during the operation was caused by heat transfer exceeding the normal level. The grounding of the rotor occurred through rising vibration and temperature, tripping the generator unit. During repairs, the axial spacer was replaced with a new model, where it is longer than the original, adding a bar spacer at a previously unavailable position and creating a cooling track profile. This is a case study on the replacement of the axial spacer model aimed at preventing the expansion of the winding, so as not to touch with each other, through the installation of a longer axial spacer and the addition of the spacer bar, and lastly adding the track profile to the cooling hydrogen gas flow thereby maximizing the cooling process from the end winding rotor generator. Heat transfer is an analysed parameter related to the model change of the axial spacer. The addition of a track cooling gas flow has been able to maximize the heat transfer process, which is simulated in this paper. The performance of the rotor generator increased through several parameters after the replacement of the axial spacer model. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In this paper we propose an original distributed control framework for DC mcirogrids. We first formulate the (optimal) control objectives as an aggregative game suitable for the energy trading market. Then, based on the dual theory, we analyze the equivalent distributed optimal condition for the proposed aggregative game and design a distributed control scheme to solve it. By interconnecting the DC mcirogrid and the designed distributed control system in a power preserving way, we steer the DC microgrid's state to the desired optimal equilibrium, satisfying a predefined set of local and coupling constraints. Finally, based on the singular perturbation system theory, we analyze the convergence of the closed-loop system. Bioimpedance is a commonly used method for various conditions monitoring. In this paper, the authors carried out some research where they implemented various smoothing filters to enable identification of the bioimpedance spectroscopy parameters. The proposed filtering methods may also be used for application on embedded systems, which have smaller computing power but have become recently very popular. The obtained results with the implementation of smoothing filters were promising, however, some of the obtained results were unsatisfactory. This work also contains a brief introduction to bioimpedance spectroscopy and smoothing filters.

For networks of systems, with possibly improper transfer function matrices, we present a design framework which enables H∞ control, while imposing sparsity constraints on the controller’s coprime factors. We propose a convex and iterative optimization procedure with guaranteed convergence to obtain distributed controllers. By exploiting the robustness-oriented nature of our proposed approach, we provide the means to obtain sparse representations of our control laws that may not be directly supported by the network’s nominal model. © 2021, CC BY.

This work studies the sparse adaptive filter designs in the presence of impulsive disturbance for audio signal recovery. By using the sparse representation of desired signal and compressibility of impulsive disturbance, a joint sparse least mean p-norm (JSLMP) optimization, in which p-norm (1 ≤ p ≤ 2) measures the data fidelity and q-norm (0 ≤ q ≤ 1) enforces sparse solutions, is developed, termed as q-JSLMP. The filter weights update is derived based on the gradient descent, and the Adam and variable step size (VSS) are integrated to accelerate convergence and avoid potential local minima. In the special case of q = 1, namely 1-JSLMP, its convergence condition and mean square deviation (MSD) analysis are derived. Finally, the frame of application to corrupted audio signals is designed. The results from experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms other approaches in terms of objective measures on numerical simulation and speech datasets. © 2024, The Authors. Generally, crowd datasets can be collected or generated from real or synthetic sources. Real data is generated by using infrastructure-based sensors (such as static cameras or other sensors). The use of simulation tools can significantly reduce the time required to generate scenario-specific crowd datasets, facilitate data-driven research, and next build functional machine learning models. The main goal of this work was to develop an extension of crowd simulation (named CrowdSim2) and prove its usability in the application of people-tracking algorithms. The simulator is developed using the very popular Unity 3D engine with particular emphasis on the aspects of realism in the environment, weather conditions, traffic, and the movement and models of individual agents. CrowdSim2: an Open Synthetic Benchmark for Object Detectors

Data scarcity has become one of the main obstacles to developing supervised models based on Artificial Intelligence in computer Vision. Indeed, Deep Learning-based models systematically struggle when applied in new scenarios never seen during training and may not be adequately tested in non-ordinary yet crucial real-world situations. This paper presents and publicly releases CrowdSim2, a new synthetic collection of images suitable for people and vehicle detection gathered from a simulator based on the Unity graphical engine. It consists of thousands of images gathered from various synthetic scenarios resembling the real world, where we varied some factors of interest, such as the weather conditions and the number of objects in the scenes. The labels are automatically collected and consist of bounding boxes that precisely localize objects belonging to the two object classes, leaving out humans from the annotation pipeline. We exploited this new benchmark as a testing ground for some state-of-the-art detectors, showing that our simulated scenarios can be a valuable tool for measuring their performances in a controlled environment. © 2023, CC BY.

The analogue implementation of spiking neural networks have the critical advantage of parallel operation and information transmission. The implementation in hardware of the synaptic weights and learning mechanisms represents a challenging task. A cheap and efficient method to store the weights of analogue SNN which benefits from real time adjustment represents the capacitors. However, the main disadvantage of this method represents the leakage currents which make the synaptic weights volatile. This paper proposes and evaluates experimentally a method for refreshing the weights of the analogue synapses by rhythmic activation of the neurons. The results show that the long term memory of analogue neurons improves significantly if the neurons are activated at certain periods of time. Moreover, in order to obtain non-volatile memory the refresh rate can be determined as a function of the initial value and the variation of the synaptic weights.
