As ever more data is collected in the business processes of large enterprises, the decision makers need new business intelligence tools. Enterprise reporting tools have been available for some time, however, while reports aggregate business data, the large number of reports can become unmanageable. The European funded project Questor aims to create a revolutionary product that will eliminate the complexities inherent in the report management workflow. The final purpose is to make querying the report database as simple as addressing a question in natural language. N-grams are a building block in natural language processing and information retrieval. It is a sequence of a string data like contiguous words or other tokens in text documents. In this work, we study how N-gram can be computed efficiently using a MapReduce for distributed data processing and a distributed database named Hbase This technique is applied to construct the training and testing processes using Hadoop MapReduce framework and Hbase. We proposed to focus on the time cost and storage size of the model and exploring different structures of Hbase table. By constructing and comparing a different table structures on training 100 million words for unigram, bigram and trigram models we suggest a table based on half ngram structure is a more suitable choice for distributed language model. The results of this work can be applied in the cloud computing and other large scale distributed language processing areas.

An engine test stand created especially for research of electrical race car is described in the paper. The car is an aim of Silesian Greenpower project whose participants build and test electrical vehicles to take part in international races in Great Britain. The engine test stand is used to test and measure the characteristics of vehicles and their engines. It has been designed particularly to test the electric cars engineered by students of Silesian Greenpower project. The article contains a description how the test stand works and shows its versatility in many areas. The paper presents both construction of the test stand, control system and sample results of conducted research. The engine test stand was designed and modified using PLM Siemens NX 8.5. The construction of the test stand is highly modular, which means it can be used both for testing the vehicle itself or for tests without the vehicle. The test stand has its own wheel, motor, powertrain and braking system with second engine. Such solution enables verifying various concepts without changing the construction of the vehicle. The control system and measurement system are realized by enabling National Instruments product myRIO (RIO - Reconfigurable Input/Output). This controller in combination with powerful LabVIEW environment performs as an advanced tool to control torque and speed simultaneously. It is crucial as far as the test stand is equipped in two motors - the one being tested and the braking one. The feedback loop is realized by an optical encoder cooperating with the rotor mounted on the wheel. The results of tests are shown live on the screen both as a chart and as single values. After performing several tests there is a report generated. The engine test stand is widely used during process of the Silesian Greenpower vehicle design. Its versatility enables powertrain testing, wheels and tires tests, thermal analysis and more.

The increased traffic flow on both existing highways and city roads leads to the appearance of stop-and-go waves which have many disadvantages, e.g., increased risk of accidents, higher fuel consumption, increased pollution, increased wear of vehicle mechanical parts, driving stress and passenger discomfort. The platooning of vehicles could be the solution to this problem by enforcing them to follow each other and to maintain a safe distance between them. The advantages brought by this solution depend on ensuring the string stability of the vehicle platoon. In this paper the leader-follower system is employed to illustrate the stop-and-go waves mitigation. Several controllers (P, PI) were designed based on the conditions that have to be met in order to ensure the string stability of the vehicle platoon and comparisons were made with a controller based on the driver behavior.

For several decades, the power system protection relay has experienced many important changes, from purely electromechanical type to the mixture of electronic and electromechanical type, then to fully static and now fully numerical relays based on microprocessors. In the transformer protection area, similar changes can be seen. In this study we propose a series of test parameters for random number generators in order to analyze the uniformity and the degree of correlation of generated numbers. The present analysis was applied to a series of standard generators used in libraries of the usual programming languages such as: C/C++, Java and Fortran. Besides using some standard tests, new parameters that provide a more adequate description of uniformity and correlation are proposed. The analysis attempts to explain the different results obtained in simulations performed with different types of generators and to outline the different degree of uniformity and correlation of the numbers produced by these generators. The uniformity and correlation properties were analyzed both independently and together through integrants parameters. The analysis revealed that high sizes of storage and representation or high periodicity of the random number generators does not offer at the same time both high uniformity and less correlation of random numbers packets with different sizes.

This study attempts to establish methods for characterizing the complexity of ordinal data through the information and entropy parameters. In this respect, there were examined the methods for measuring the complexity of data with similar statistical characteristics and the parameters that can make the difference between them were established. For this purpose, the analysis was applied to three data sets with identical overall statistical characteristics but with different order of elements, respectively incremental, random and oscillatory incremental data. The analysis highlighted that it is necessary to include the information and entropy parameters for different variation orders of data elements. In this regard new parameters have been proposed, based on information and entropy expressions that describe, in an adequate way, the complexity of ordinal data.

To engineer the factory of the future the paper argues for a reference model that is not necessary restricted to the control component, but integrates the physical and human components as well. This is due to the real need to accommodate the latest achievements in factory automation where the human is not merely playing a simple and clear role inside the control-loop, but is becoming a composite factor in a highly automated system (“man in the mesh”). This paper presents a computationally efficient method for modelling an impact of the converter drive on the power grid. The formalized variable structure method (FVSM) allows for comprehensive studies of the effect on the power grid and examining the relation between this effect and the number of drive and feeding line parameters. In order to obtain a comprehensive model along with the model of the power grid, the parameters that are applied originate from a drive of a coal-fired power station. These parameters have been determined based on assessment and estimation. The estimation process was conducted with the aid of a model that allows for the commutation of power electronic elements. The authors confirmed that the model was correct by comparing empirical and theoretical voltage and current waveforms. Harmonic content of the voltage and current in the power grid which feeds the drive are considered to be the measure of the converter drive impact on the power grid. The standard method for the reduction of a harmonic content in the voltage and current involves the application of line reactors and distribution or converter transformers. As an example, the authors determine the impact of the drive on the power grid with respect to the adopted parameters of the line reactor. This example presents FVSM abilities with regard to simulation of complex systems that contain power grid components and converter drives.
