Self-powered broadband photodetectors utilizing 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are highly promising due to their remarkable light absorption capabilities and high sensitivity, making them suitable for applications such as military surveillance and wireless light detection systems. However, their performance is constrained by inadequate absorption, suboptimal charge carrier separation, and slow response times. In response to these limitations, the study fabricates a self-powered photodetector employing a heterostructure composed of WS2 nanoparticles anchored to CVD-synthesized MoS2, operating within the visible to near-infrared spectrum. The device demonstrates a responsivity of 283 mA W−1 and a detectivity 6.44 × 1012 Jones, alongside an external quantum efficiency of 61% under exposure of 580 nm. In comparison to pristine MoS2, the MoS2-WS2 photodetector exhibited approximately 12-fold and 11-fold enhancements in responsivity and detectivity, respectively, in addition to fast response time of ≈375 µs and 6 ms. Additionally, density functional theory (DFT) calculations are used to analyze the increase in dark current that is observed following WS₂ nanoparticle anchored on MoS₂. This investigation highlights the potential of 2D heterostructures in the development of high-performance broadband photodetectors, which offer improved responsivity, stability, and self-powered operation for advanced optoelectronic applications. © 2025 Wiley-VCH GmbH.

Internet of Things solutions typically involve interaction between sensors, actuators, the cloud, embedded systems and user applications. Often in such cases, there are time constraints specifying the maximum response time to a request. This time depends on the calculation time and transmission time. Existing Internet communication solutions do not ensure the implementation of transmissions in a way that guarantees meeting the set time constraints. This paper proposes a new model of Internet communication dedicated to real-time Internet of Things systems, which includes a communication protocol, as well as a transmission scheduling and routing method. The protocol takes into account information about transmission time constraints, which is used for packet scheduling by routers, allowing to increase quality of service. In addition, the proposed static routing mechanism makes it possible to parallelize transmissions if time constraints are still exceeded. Also presented are preliminary results of experiments showing to what extent the proposed methods allow improving the quality of service in real-time Internet of Things systems. © 2023 Polish Information Processing Society.

Graphics processing units (GPU) are an integral part of today's computing environment. The marketing emphasis on user experience pushes vendors to constantly look for better graphics hardware and newer drivers to integrate into their products. Most commodity GPUs function as accelerators for image and video processing tasks and are present (either as dedicated or integrated form factor) in everyday devices including desktops, laptops, smartphones or other portable gadgets. Recent trends have seen the GPU move to perform additional tasks such as offloading some of the computation from the CPU or solve highly parallel problems. As GPUs become more powerful and widespread they will naturally become a very attractive target for attackers. Cybercriminals will look for any vulnerability in the GPU hardware or software, and will try to use it as an attack vector to compromise the system. This paper presents some of the incidents that involve the use of GPUs to perform malicious actions and proposes a framework to allow analysts to inspect the code executed on the GPU and trigger security alerts. The proposed solution will look at the processes running inside an operating system, it will identify which of them require access to the GPU and will try to intercept and scan for any suspicious activities, similar to a conventional security solution. © 2021 IEEE.

Wireless networks rely greatly on security for authentication and confidentiality, due to the use of an open communication medium. The tendency to incorporate wireless capabilities in battery powered hand-held devices makes it difficult to enforce security because of computational resources and battery capacity limitations. One approach to this problem consists in adaptable security mechanisms: different security algorithms may be enforced at any given time, to assure a proper level of protection, while respecting constraints on power and resource consumption. This paper presents such a mechanism (CLASS), which uses a clustering scheme to setup homogenous security areas in the network. The scheme is based on the available energy at every node and on the individual security requirements. By proper assignment of the nodes and by proper selection of security, we show that our method significantly reduces the average energy consumption compared to a heterogeneous network. © 2011 faculty of Auto control.

The field of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) consists of techniques that are mainly focused on document image analysis. Aside from generating significant speedups of everyday procedures, OCR has a considerable role in the preservation of historical sources of information. Most of the World War 2 (WW2) documents are of great importance, especially with applications in virtual archives, museums, and research. The situation asks for an efficient, yet not aggressive, transcribing method using OCR tools. This paper describes an approach in the context of the given problem. The focus is oriented towards extracting the information from documents affected by their age, but with simpler structures, mainly split into paragraphs, such as letters and military reports. The approach is based on combining the results of multiple OCR engines, with the final objective of achieving better performance compared to the individual performance of each engine. © 2022 IEEE.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that 'a picture is worth a thousand words'. The emerge of digital media has taken this saying to a complete new level. By using steganography, one can hide not only 1000, but thousands of words even in an average sized image. This article presents various types of techniques used by modern digital steganography, as well as the implementation of the least significant bit (LSB) method. The main objective is to develop an application that uses LSB insertion in order to encode data into a cover image. Both a serial and parallel version are proposed and an analysis of the performances is made using images ranging from 1:9 to 131 megapixels. © 2013 IEEE.

This article presents a new method for managing digital reuse rights of research data, which leverages technologies such as the blockchain and smart contracts. This allows, on one hand, the creation of a permanent record on the agreements between the authors of the data and the reusers, with the possibility of verifying compliance at any time, and on the other hand, a higher level of granularity on defining the conditions of reuse. This paper presents a conversational interface that uses the speech recognition and synthesis and animation abilities of two Microsoft software agents in order to assure a more natural and efficient interface with an autonomous robot. The interface is used in the robotics educational process. The basic commands to be given by voice (back, right, etc.) and the control of the agents are implemented in Visual Basic. More complex control programs can be implemented and tested in Matlab and after that executed with a simple voice command. This program is used as a part of an integrated educational strategy in autonomous robotics and was evaluated by a group of students. First experimental results related to the use of this conversational interface compared to traditional robot simulation environments and control of real robots are presented in this paper with related discussions.
