A transformer based real-time photo captioning framework for visually impaired people with visual attention

In recent years, transformer-based photo captioning frameworks plays a crucial role in improving individuals’ overall well-being, self-reliance, and inclusivity by giving them access to visual content via written and voiced explanations. This research investigates a two-layer transformer architecture to capture extensive relationships in visual data effectively. Using a two-layer transformer design, visual attention mechanism enables the model to autonomously identify relevant regions within a picture while generating a particular word within the anticipated caption. To get the features from the images, a pre-trained Inception V3 model is used, and the feature maps are extracted from the final convolutional block. The dataset used in this research was Flick8k, Flick30k, among bespoke datasets. The model was trained on a TPU platform and implemented on a Raspberry Pi 4B graphics processing unit. To assess the efficacy of the two-layer transformer model for photo captioning, a series of experiments were undertaken using benchmark datasets and with state-of-the-art models. The quality of the generated captions was evaluated using quantitative criteria such as BLEU, BLEUR, ROUGE and F1 score. Furthermore, a series of qualitative assessments were conducted, employing human evaluators, to measure the overall coherence, and fluency of the captions. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Lung cancer is the most lethal form of cancer. This paper introduces a novel framework to discern and classify pulmonary disorders such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, and lung cancer by analyzing conventional X-ray and CT scan images called lung cancer risk prediction (LCRP) model. LCRP has four modules, namely data collection and preprocessing, data augmentation module, image segmentation module, and prediction module. Actually, LCRP employs three deep learning models;sequential model, functional model, and transfer model on publicly available training datasets. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have emerged as a highly effective field in machine learning, particularly for image datasets in the field of biomedical applications. The primary goal is to validate these models by comparing their performance with other models in order to determine their effectiveness in addressing challenging datasets. Our research has revealed a noteworthy enhancement in the efficiency of binary and multi-class classification using mask R-CNN image segmentation. During the model training process, a combination of Adam and stochastic gradient descent dual optimizers has been used to improve performance. LCRP have outperformed current pre-trained models by minimizing training parameters, computational costs, and overhead. It introduces 98.5% accuracy, 88.7% specificity, 89% sensitivity, 89.2% precision, and 89.09% F-measure. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

In the past, a small size microcontroller was needed to control and gather data from resource-constrained electronic devices aimed at Internet of Things (IoT) applications. While the server nodes receive the requests with a high demand for calculation. However, to minimize network traffic transactions and the overall workload that the server node must handle, a portion of these operations must now be completed locally. Additionally, multiple tasks must be processed simultaneously by IoT devices. In this study, we suggested a multi-core, multi-thread enable System-on-Chip (SoC) that consume small resources. The suggested architecture achieves a notable speed increase over single-core design by utilizing the advantages of RISC-V Instruction Set Architecture (ISA). © 2024 IEEE.

Two dimensional cuckoo search optimization algorithm based despeckling filter for the real ultrasound images

A clinical ultrasound imaging plays a significant role in the proper diagnosis of patients because, it is a cost-effective and non-invasive technique in comparison with other methods. The speckle noise contamination caused by ultrasound images during the acquisition process degrades its visual quality, which makes the diagnosis task difficult for physicians. Hence, to improve their visual quality, despeckling filters are commonly used for processing of such images. However, several disadvantages of existing despeckling filters discourage the use of existing despeckling filters to reduce the effect of speckle noise. In this paper, two dimensional cuckoo search optimization algorithm based despeckling filter is proposed for avoiding limitations of various existing despeckling filters. Proposed despeckling filter is developed by combining fast non-local means filter and 2D finite impulse response (FIR) filter with cuckoo search optimization algorithm. In the proposed despeckling filter, the coefficients of 2D FIR filter are optimized by using the cuckoo search optimization algorithm. The quantitative results comparison between the proposed despeckling filter and other existing despeckling filters are analyzed by evaluating PSNR, MSE, MAE, and SSIM values for different real ultrasound images. Results reveal that the visual quality obtained by the proposed despeckling filter is better than other existing despeckling filters. The numerical results also reveal that the proposed despeckling filter is highly effective for despeckling the clinical ultrasound images. © Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2018.

This research allows the secure surveillance approach for the Internet of Things (IoT) methodology to be developed by integrating wireless signalling and image encryption strategy. Since the Cloud Service Telco (CST) is a semi-trusted body in cloud services, user data is encrypted before uploading to a cloud server for data protection from disclosure. The flexibility of encrypted data sharing is essential for cloud storage users. This study investigates the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) technique with modified Huffman compression and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC). It encrypts and decrypts the data and enhances industrial security surveillance in transmission. It uses the wireless network’s next generation (5G or 6G) as uplink Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) strategies via the IoT. This study presented a novel approach to proposing hardware architecture for a secure web camera integrated with the Atmel in the mega AVR family (ATMEGA) microcontroller, suitable for IoT applications. The experimental results confirm the proposed model’s efficacy compared with existing robustness and security analysis algorithms. These systems are also used by implementing industry-standard protocols using IoTs to monitor industrial applications. The proposed framework can also minimise bandwidth, transmission cost, storage space, tracking data, and decisions about abnormal events such as potential fraud and extinguisher detection in surveilling applications. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Edge detection using the Prewitt operator with fractional order telegraph partial differential equations (PreFOTPDE)

Detecting edges in image processing is an important process in image analysis or enhancement. Many methods detected edge information based on the differences in brightness values. Prewitt, the most widely used edge detection method, performs the extraction of edges by partial differential calculation. This study performed fractional order partial differential calculation with the Telegraph equation in the Prewitt method calculation. Filter coefficients are determined by using Grumwald-Letnikov series expansion for fractional partial differential equation calculation. To determine the most appropriate fraction value, five different coefficients were tried. The proposed method is compared with the conventional edge detection methods Sobel, Canny and standard Prewitt. The obtained result showed that the proposed method detects the edges more accurately. In addition, it has been compared with Prewitt fractional order edge detection (FOED) and edge detection method based on ant colony optimization (ACO) methods developed in recent years. Pratt's figure of merit (FOM) metric was used to compare these studies. A novel deep learning approach (Bi-xBcNet-96) considering green AI to discover breast cancer using mammography images

Clinical decision support systems (CDSSs) can effectively detect illnesses such as breast cancer (BC) using a variety of medical imaging techniques. BC is a key factor contributing to the rise in the death rate among women worldwide. Early detection will lessen its impact, which may motivate patients to have quick surgical therapy. computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems are designed to provide radiologists recommendations to assist them in diagnosing BC. However, it is still restricted and limited, the interpretability cost, time consumption, and complexity of architecture are not considered. These limitations limit their use in healthcare devices. Therefore, we thought of presenting a revolutionary deep learning (DL) architecture based on recurrent and convolutional neural networks called Bi-xBcNet-96. In order to decrease carbon emissions while developing the DL model for medical image analysis and meet the objectives of sustainable artificial intelligence, this study seeks to attain high accuracy at the lowest computing cost. It takes into consideration the various characteristics of the pathological variation of BC disease in mammography images to obtain high detection accuracy. It consists of six stages: identifying the region of interest, detecting spatial features, discovering the effective features of the BC pathological types that have infected nearby cells in a concentrated area, identifying the relationships between distantly infected cells in some BC pathological types, weighing the extracted features, and classifying the mammography image. According to experimental findings, Bi-xBcNet-96 beat other comparable works on the benchmark datasets, attaining a classification accuracy of 98.88% in DDSM dataset, 100% in INbreast dataset with 5.08% and 0.3% improvements over the state-of-the-art methods, respectively. Furthermore, a 95.79% reduction in computing complexity was achieved. © The Author(s) 2024.
