The high performance of IoT technology in transportation networks has led to the increasing adoption of Internet of Vehicles(IoV)*** functional advantages of IoV include online communication services,accident prevention,cost reduction,and enhanced traffic *** these benefits,IoV technology is susceptible to cyber-attacks,which can exploit vulnerabilities in the vehicle network,leading to perturbations,disturbances,non-recognition of traffic signs,accidents,and vehicle *** paper reviews the state-of-the-art achievements and developments in applying Deep Transfer Learning(DTL)models for Intrusion Detection Systems in the Internet of Vehicles(IDS-IoV)based on anomaly ***-IoV leverages anomaly detection through machine learning and DTL techniques to mitigate the risks posed by *** systems can autonomously create specific models based on network data to differentiate between regular traffic and *** these techniques,transfer learning models are particularly promising due to their efficacy with tagged data,reduced training time,lower memory usage,and decreased computational *** evaluate DTL models against criteria including the ability to transfer knowledge,detection rate,accurate analysis of complex data,and *** review highlights the significant progress made in the field,showcasing how DTL models enhance the performance and reliability of IDS-IoV *** examining recent advancements,we provide insights into how DTL can effectively address cyber-attack challenges in IoV environments,ensuring safer and more efficient transportation networks.

The latest advancements in blockchain technology have significantly influenced several sectors, such as banking, healthcare, and supply chain networks. Because of its distinct attributes, like decentralization, trustworthiness, and security, this technology has recently been employed in the field of education. While the blockchain is bright, several problems, such as legal, immutability, and scalability questions, continue to hinder its adoption in education. Optimizing therapy and rehabilitation for Parkinson's disease (PD) requires early identification and precise evaluation of the illness's course. However, there is disagreement about the best way to use gait analysis to categorize the severity of motor symptoms and identify early-stage Parkinson's disease. The precision of machine learning (ML) models in identifying early and intermediate stages of Parkinson's disease was assessed in this study. Six ML models are used in this study for the prediction of PD. Different metrics are used to evaluate ML models such as accuracy, precision, recall, f1-score, and AUC score. Then we propose a multi-criteria decision-making methodology (MCDM) to evaluate the ML models and select the best one. Two MCDM methods are used such as CRITIC method to compute the criteria weights and the TOPSIS method to rank the alternatives. These methods are used under the bipolar neutrosophic sets (BNSs) to deal with uncertainty information. The results show the support vector machine is the best ML model for the prediction of PD. © 2025, University of New Mexico. All rights reserved.

Enhancing intrusion detection in IIoT: optimized CNN model with multi-class SMOTE balancing

This work introduces an intrusion detection system (IDS) tailored for industrial internet of things (IIoT) environments based on an optimized convolutional neural network (CNN) model. The model is trained on a dataset that was balanced using a novel multi-class implementation of synthetic minority over-sampling technique (SMOTE) that ensures equal representation of all classes. Additionally, systematic optimization will be used to fine tune the hyperparameters of the CNN model and mitigate the effects of the increased size of the training dataset. Evaluation results will demonstrate substantial improvement in performance when the optimized CNN model is trained on the balanced dataset. The proposed IDS will be evaluated using the IIoT-specific WUSTL-IIOT-2021 dataset, and then its generalization capability will be verified using the non-domain specific UNSW_NB15 dataset. The model’s performance will be evaluated using accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score metrics. The results will demonstrate that the proposed IDS is highly effective with performance exceeding 99.9% on all performance metrics. The IDS is also highly effective in detecting intrusion for generic IT networks achieving improvements in excess of 30% compared to the default baseline model. The results emphasize the versatility and effectiveness of the proposed IDS model, making it a reliable and adaptable solution for enhancing network security across diverse network environments. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Increasing cyber threats have rendered traditional security solutions such as firewalls and intrusion-detection/prevention systems insufficient in providing adequate protection against advanced persistent threats to homeland security. To enhance protection, the implementation of active cyber defense is recommended, offering alternative yet effective measures against these threats. This paper examines the phases of the cyber kill chain, one of the cyber defense techniques, which has been enhanced to analyze and understand advanced persistent threats. It explains the use of deception, slowdown, and counterattacks for active cyber defense. Additionally, the utilization of artificial intelligence in active cyber defense techniques is discussed. Finally, the paper elucidates how these techniques can be employed within the scope of active cyber defense to enhance security. © 2024 IEEE.

The growing elderly population and the increasing demand for nursing home care have led to a need to improve the quality of life for residents. A popular solution is developing a companion robot to assist residents with various tasks and provide human-like interaction. In this paper, we present the prototype of a companion robot currently website-based, equipped with a Dual Intent Entity Transformer to understand what the user wants. The results of the study show the prototype is capable of classifying user messages according to their appropriate intent with precision, recall, F-score, and accuracy on average 91 %, 91 %, 90%, and 87% respectively using privately owned dataset. Future works such as expanding the robot's insight and tuning the model would improve the service provided by the companion robot. © 2023 IEEE.

Fruit flies are a major threat faced by snake fruit farmers. Fruit flies can degrade the quality of snake fruits and reduce the overall yield. Traps stuffed with Methyl Eugenol are commonly placed across snake fruit plantations to attract fruit flies. Farmers then manually counted and reported the trapped fruit flies as part of their pest management strategies. However, manually counting trapped fruit flies is time-consuming, leading to unwillingness among farmers to perform this task. This study aims to develop an automated detection and counting system using deep-learning-based methods to address this issue. The proposed system was built on a modified YOLOv5 algorithm, achieving a precision of 0.944, recall of 0.947, and mAP of 0.946, with an object-counting time of only 50 ms. These results demonstrate that the proposed fruit-fly detection and counting system offers excellent performance with rapid detection times ©2024 IEEE.

With the emergence of deep learning, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models have been proposed to advance the progress of various applications, including face recognition, object detection, pattern recognition, and number plate recognition. The utilization of CNNs in these areas has considerably improved security and surveillance capabilities by providing automated recognition solutions, such as traffic surveillance, access control devices, biometric security systems, and attendance systems. However, there is still room for improvement in this field. This paper discusses several classic CNN models, such as LeNet-5, AlexNet, VGGNet, GoogLeNet, and ResNet, as well as lightweight models for mobile-based applications, such as MobileNet, ShuffleNet, and EfficientNet. Additionally, deep CNN-based face recognition models, such as DeepFace, DeepID, FaceNet, and SphereFace, are explored, along with their architectural characteristics, advantages, disadvantages, and recognition accuracy. The results indicate that many scholars are researching lightweight face recognition, but applying it to mobile devices is impractical due to high computational costs. Furthermore, noise label learning is not robust in actual scenarios, and unlabeled face learning is expensive in manual labeling. Finally, this paper concludes with a discussion of the current problems faced by face recognition technology and its potential future directions for development. © 2023 by the authors of this article. Acquired medical images often contain noise due to various factors that affect image quality. The noisy image indicates the presence of inappropriate information or loss of original information due to changes in the pixel values. For diagnosis purposes, the acquired or noisy medical image needs to be reconstructed to obtain an enhanced image or denoised image for a better decision. One of the techniques to enhance or reduce the noise can be performed by normalized convolution to interpolate the change of pixels in the original image. This paper is presented to investigate the feasibility of the normalized convolution filter to enhance and reduce medical image noise. The study was performed through experiments using several types of medical images, namely Brain MRI, Breast Ultrasound, Chest X-ray, Retinal OCT, Mammogram, and RSNA Bone Age images. Experimental results show that the normalized convolution could produce an enhanced image with sharper contrast. In the image enhancement, the enhanced image obtained by this filter achieves 41.12 dB on the PSNR average. In the medical image denoising, the normalized convolution could produce better visual quality to reduce the Gaussian, Salt & Pepper, Poisson, and Speckle with PSNR averages are 28.43dB, 32.82dB, 32.49dB, and 29.30dB. This method also outperforms basic image denoising filters, such as Imbox, Wiener, and Median Filterings. Hence, this filter could be used as an alternative for medical image preprocessing, such as image enhancement and noise reduction. © 2023 IEEE.

The cybersecurity landscape is increasingly challenged by the growing digital footprint and the sophistication of cyber threats, necessitating experts to stay updated and extract actionable insights from a deluge of Cyber Threat Intelligence data. Given the impracticality of manually processing approximately 60,000 pieces of Cyber Threat Intelligence released monthly, this paper introduces the Cybersecurity Entity Extraction Tool, an efficient technique leveraging pre-trained transformer-based large language models and an artificial neural network to extract named entities from unstructured sources within the cybersecurity domain. This tool not only facilitates the identification and contextual understanding of cyber threats but also achieves a commendable F1-score of 92% across 14 distinct labels, significantly mitigating the limitations of previous methods and enhancing the capability of analysts to process large volumes of Cyber Threat Intelligence data efficiently. © 2024 IEEE.
