This paper presents a review of the field of reinforcement learning (RL), with a focus on providing a comprehensive overview of the key concepts, techniques, and algorithms for beginners. RL has a unique setting, jargon, and mathematics that can be intimidating for those new to the field or artificial intelligence more broadly. While many papers review RL in the context of specific applications, such as games, healthcare, finance, or robotics, these papers can be difficult for beginners to follow due to the inclusion of non-RL-related work and the use of algorithms customized to those specific applications. To address these challenges, this paper provides a clear and concise overview of the fundamental principles of RL and covers the different types of RL algorithms. For each algorithm/method, we outline the main motivation behind its development, its inner workings, and its limitations. The presentation of the paper is aligned with the historical progress of the field, from the early 1980s Q-learning algorithm to the current state-of-the-art algorithms such as TD3, PPO, and offline RL. Overall, this paper aims to serve as a valuable resource for beginners looking to construct a solid understanding of the fundamentals of RL and be aware of the historical progress of the field. Sasirangan cloth is one of the traditional cloths owned by Indonesia and is a typical cloth originating from the province of South Kalimantan. This Sasirangan cloth has many motifs and is unique. Sasirangan cloth is also one of the potentials that can attract local and foreign tourists to visit South Kalimantan. However, in recent years, tourist visits to South Kalimantan have decreased due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Then it also has an impact on the delay in the implementation of the Banjarmasin Sasirangan Festival which is usually held annually. The next impact is a decrease in turnover and interest in shopping for Sasirangan cloth, so that employees who work for Sasirangan cloth craftsmen are dismissed and reduce people's income. So the purpose of this study is to report the results of the development of a Virtual Reality Game application called VR-SasiranganKu by integrating the interaction of Non-Player Character (NPC) behavior with the type of narrative in the simulation genre game. VR-SasiranganKu is recommended to introduce and at the same time promote Sasirangan cloth to users, then justify the reaction to knowledge and shopping experience, and evaluate user experience using the UX Honeycomb method. Respondents involved as many as 100 people who are local and national tourists. The results show that the interaction of NPC behavior can provide good direction to users regarding the introduction of Sasirangan cloth by presenting an appropriate interaction design based on the narrative and the theme of the NPC that has been adopted, the results of justification using VR-SasiranganKu can provide knowledge reaction and very good shopping experience, and based on user experience evaluation that VR-SasiranganKu has adopted a very good UX with an average score of 4.91. © 2022 IEEE.

Universities have a difficult task in preparing their students to have competencies according to the needs of the digital era industry. This study aims to determine the effect of hard skills, soft skills, and digital literacy on IT student work readiness. This is quantitative research, and the population is students of informatics engineering at Indraprasta University in semester 7 or 8 who have not worked. The number of samples is as many as 125 students (the minimum sample from the calculation of Slovin with an error rate of 5% is 93). Questionnaires were distributed through a simple random sampling technique. The data were processed using multiple linear regression analysis techniques. The results of this study obtained the equation Y = 1.821 + 0.757X1 +0.380X2 + 0.306X3 + e. Simultaneously hard skills, soft skills, and digital literacy have a positive and significant 94.3% effect on IT work readiness. Partially, the effect of hard skills (X1), soft skills (X2), and digital literacy (X3) on IT student work readiness (Y) is 37.4%, 34.3%, and 23.6%. This study proves that hard skills (X1), soft skills (X2), and digital literacy (X3) competencies together have a significant effect on IT student work readiness (Y) by 94.3%.

This paper describes a new technique for removing impulsive noise in digital color images. The proposed method uses a measure of the pixel distortion caused by the impulsive noise, expressed as the sum of the Euclidean distances between the central pixel and its closest neighbors in the filtering window. This corruption measure is used to determine a weighted average of the pixels from the local neighborhood that is not affected by the distorted pixels. The filtering output is obtained using a soft switching scheme, where the denoising result is determined as a weighted average of the central pixel of a processing window and its robust estimate. The weighting coefficient is calculated based on the amount of distortion of the central pixel. Thus, if the central pixel is highly distorted, it is replaced by its robust estimate, otherwise it is not significantly changed. The parameters that determine the image enhancement result are adaptively adjusted by using a noise-resistant image contrast measure. The proposed filter design is able to effectively suppress impulsive noise while preserving fine image details and edges. Comparison with existing algorithms shows that the proposed method provides better denoising results than the most efficient filters designed for impulsive noise suppression in color images. Moreover, the new method is very fast and can be used in real-time denoising scenarios.

In this paper, a novel approach to the problem of mixed Gaussian and impulsive noise reduction in color images is proposed. The elaborated denoising framework is based on the Non-Local Means technique, which has been shown to effectively suppress Gaussian noise. To overcome the inability of this filter to deal with impulsive distortions, a robust similarity measure between image patches, that is insensitive to the impact of impulsive distortions, was developed. First, the distorted pixels of the image are detected using the concept of a peer group. If the number of neighbors of a pixel at the center of a filtering window, whose Euclidean distance in the RGB color space does not exceed a threshold value, is smaller than a predefined value, then the considered pixel is treated as corrupted. Afterwards, the similarity between image patches are calculated in a standard way omitting the noisy pixels. In this way, only the average of distances between pairs of unaffected pixels are calculated. Thus, the closeness measure of the patches, which serves as the coefficient in weighted averaging of pixels in the processing block, is not affected by impulsive noise and is still able to cope with the Gaussian noise component. The proposed filtering design is capable of reducing even strong mixed noise while preserving image details and edges. Moreover, it is not computationally intensive, so it can be used in real-time image processing scenarios.

Many different industries are currently making substantial use of the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT is the process through which electronic devices communicate with their surrounding virtual environment by continuously exchanging data via sensors. Due to increased IoT security concerns, digital forensic investigators now possess greater knowledge and abilities to investigate IoT devices. IoT-DigFor are required in terms of cybercrime due to the rapid growth in the number of electronic devices and the collection and consumption of enormous amounts of data. IoT systems with billions of devices have produced a significant amount of evidence, which presents a significant challenge to digital investigators and practitioners who must connect with IoT devices to conduct fast and thorough investigations into cybercrimes. This article presents detailed information about forensics in the IoT environment. The IoT forensic paradigm and the challenges that design-based security requirements and IoT system security offer for IoT-DigFor are covered in great detail at the beginning of the article. © 2023 IEEE.

Knee Osteoarthritis (KOA) is becoming one of the most frequent degenerative and irreversible diseases in elderly people. Its early detection and diagnosis is also a difficult and time-intensive task. The recent advances in Machine Learning (ML) and computer Vision (CV) created new paths to automatically detect KOA in the early stages. Detecting and grading the severity of KOA requires a dedicated ML model. This paper proposes a Side-by-Side Additive Network (SSANet)-based model for detecting and grading the severity of KOA. Since KOA affects the knee joint space by narrowing the gap between the joints, we preprocess the X-ray images to detect the Region of Interest (ROI) before the training of the model. From experimental results, it is evidenced that the ROI selection is really improving the detection accuracy of the model. Unlike sequentially connected convolution layer-based deep learning models, the proposed SSANet is based on a parallel convolution layer to reduce the degradation of feature quality. Again, to enhance the edge feature maps, we apply an additive layer that couples the previous layers’ convolutional output. SSANet captures both high-level and low-level features to predict the KOA severity effectively. The presence of a smaller number of layers and fewer numbers of learnable parameters than the existing popular deep learning models, make SSANet a time and space-efficient network. Moreover, the performance of the proposed SSANet in detecting KOA severity is significantly superior to that of other popular state-of-the-art networks. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

We present a methodology for designing a dynamic controller with delayed output feedback for achieving non-collocated vibration suppression with a focus on the multi-frequency case. To synthesize the delay-based controller, we first remodel the system of equations as a delay-differential algebraic equation (DDAE) in such a way that existing tools for design of a static output feedback controller can be easily adapted. The problem of achieving non-collocated vibration suppression with sufficient damping is formulated as a constrained optimization problem of minimizing the spectral abscissa in the presence of zero-location constraints, with the constraints exhibiting polynomial dependence on its parameters. We transform the problem into an unconstrained one using elimination, following which we solve the resulting non-convex, non-smooth optimization problem.

Autonomous Underwater Gliders (AUGs) are extensively developed vehicles capable of prolonged exploration and observation in complex marine environments. Control of the AUG is challenging due to its slow response system and its constraints. In this research, a linear model representation of AutoRegressive eXogenous input (ARX) will be constructed using input and output data from the AUG system, built Model Predictive Control (MPC), analyzed the performance, comparing with traditional Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID). The objective is to enhance setpoint tracking accuracy and minimize energy to extend exploration time while faced with constraints. Simulation results reveal MPC exhibits potential setpoint tracking, low overshoot as low as 0.6% up to 0.3m/s maximum depth rate, has relatively low input changes indicating good efficiency compared to PID. MPC approach effectively addresses slow response systems, managing momentum, and handling actuator constraints commonly encountered in AUG.
