Timely and accurate detection of plant diseases is critical for sustainable crop production. This paper presents a comparative analysis of convolutional neural network (CNN) models for automated tomato leaf disease detection, including VGG16, VGG19, AlexNet and Google Net. A dataset of tomato leaf images with multiple disease types was utilized to train and test the performance of each CNN architecture. Our results demonstrate that the VGG16 model achieved the highest accuracy of 99.38% in classifying tomato leaf diseases. Compared to AlexNet and VGG19 models which obtained 98.67% and 99.29% accuracy respectively, the superior performance of VGG16 highlights its suitability for deploying robust tomato disease detection systems to enable prompt disease control interventions. Our work provides valuable insights on harnessing deep learning for agricultural disease surveillance, allowing farmers and agronomists to identify crop infections early and implement timely management practices to reduce yield losses. © 2024 IEEE.

We examine methods of valued tolerance relations where the conventional methods based on rough sets are extended in order to handle incomplete information. The methods can deal with missing values probabilistically interpreted. We propose a correctness criterion to the extension of the conventional methods. And then we check whether or not the correctness criterion is satisfied in a method of valued tolerance relations. As a result, we conclude that the method does not satisfy the correctness criterion. Therefore, we show how to revise the method of valued tolerance relations so that the correctness criterion can be satisfied. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

The photoacoustic signal from the depletion layer beneath the metal electrode in a metal/semiconductor (M/S) structure was detected using the photoacoustic method. To measure the reverse-bias voltage dependence of distribution of the photoacoustic signal from the depletion layer, the surface of the electrode was illuminated and scanned by an intensity-modulated optical-beam. It was obtained that the photoacoustic signal phase differences between depletion layer generating and non-depletion layer were dependent on the depletion layer spreading. One dimensional scanning on the electrode has also revealed that spreading of a depletion layer extends from the each edges of an electrode. © 2013 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

Skin is a major sensory organs and the irregularity in the skin causes various issues. Skin cancer is one major medical emergency, and appropriate detection and treatment are essential. Clinical level skin cancer assessment is normally performed using the Dermoscopy Images (DI). This research aims to develop and implement the VGG-UNet scheme to extract and assess the abnormal section in DI with improved accuracy. This plan includes;(i) Image collection and resizing, (ii) Segmentation of skin lesion in DI, (iii) Comparing the segmented section with the Ground-Truth (GT), and (iv) Performance evaluation and validation. The merit of the proposed technique is confirmed by computing the necessary performance metrics. In this work, the performance of the proposed technique is verified with different optimizers (Adam/SGD) and the average pooling. The experimental work is executed on the ISIC2016 challenge dataset, and the merit of this scheme is verified with Jaccard, Dice, and Accuracy. © 2022 IEEE.

Literacy and Numeracy Screening (LINUS) that implemented in Malaysia as an educational program to improve literacy and numeracy among Year 1 to Year 3 pupils in all primary schools has been terminated in 2019. However, school-level remedial program still exists and its related application is limited in the market as there is no centralized syllabus for English remedial program yet. Therefore, an English learning application for remedial program called Unique English is designed with Multimedia Mobile Content Development to overcome this problem by using previous LINUS centralized constructs. An application testing has been carried out in S.K. Pintas Raya, Parit Raja which involves pupils in remedial program and received satisfactory results with 83.2 % positive feedbacks obtained thus it can be concluded that Unique English is suitable to be implemented in remedial program. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

A new method is presented for person verification based on inner joining lines of fingers of right hand. This paper attempts to improve the performance of hand geometry based verification system by reducing the amount of features and integrating new features. It also decreases computational time by introducing a moderated edge detection method based on high pass filter. The image acquisition of this system is different than other hand geometry based biometric systems. The system requires only the upper portion of a palm image instead of image of full palm. Hence it reduces the database size. The proposed system is suitable for capturing images by a digital camera or a normal scanner. The best performance of the proposed system will be found by Euclidean distance metric. The method has been tested on a medium size dataset of 100 images with promising results of 0.02% false rejection rate(FRR), 0% false acceptance rate(FAR) and 99.99% total success rate(TSR).

The paper presents the results of analysis and modelling of differentiated services using Petri nets. Mechanisms and methods of implementation of QoS (Quality of Service) services in packet networks are discussed. A network model supporting data transfers related to different traffic classes was designed and studied. Traffic shaping mechanisms based on WFQ (Weighted Fair Queuing) system used in QoS were studied. The impact of the traffic shaping mechanism was studied and the performance of the modelled systems was evaluated. The application of simulation tools in the form of TPN (Temporal Petri Nets) was aimed at verifying the traffic shaping mechanisms and evaluating the performance of the studied WFQ system. Our simulation results show that the number of high-priority flows have a critical impact on average waiting times and queue length. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

With the rapid proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices and the ever-increasing volume of sensor data, optimizing resource utilization has become crucial for building sustainable and efficient IoT systems. In this study, we propose a novel approach for optimizing resource utilization in Green IoT through efficient storage and retrieval in vector databases. Our approach leverages specialized data structures, including k-d trees and ball trees, to achieve improved storage efficiency and accelerated retrieval performance for high-dimensional sensor data. We conducted extensive experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of our proposal, comparing it with traditional database approaches. The results demonstrate significant improvements in storage efficiency, with vector databases requiring considerably less storage space compared to traditional databases. Moreover, our approach enables fast and accurate retrieval of high-dimensional sensor data, reducing query times and enhancing real-time data analysis and decision-making capabilities. The technical achievements of our proposal offer promising prospects for the development of sustainable and efficient IoT systems in various domains, such as environmental monitoring, healthcare, and smart cities. Our work contributes to advancing the field of Green IoT by addressing the challenges of resource utilization and query performance through efficient storage and retrieval in vector databases. © 2023 IEEE.
