The Internet of Things (IoT) stands as a revolutionary leap in digital connectivity, envisioning a future network connecting billions of devices, seamlessly. Amidst the myriad benefits, there arises an intricate web of challenges, prominently centered around potential threats and data security implications. Recent cryptography techniques, such as DNA-based cryptography, 3D chaos-based cryptography, and optical cryptography, face challenges including large encryption times, high energy consumption, and suboptimal rather than optimal performance. Particularly, the burden of long encryption cycles strains the energy resources of typical low-power and compact IoT devices. These challenges render the devices vulnerable to unauthorized breaches, despite large storage capacities. The hallmark of the IoT ecosystem, characterized by its low-power compact devices, is the burgeoning volume of data they generate. This escalating data influx, while necessitating expansive storage, remains vulnerable to unauthorized access and breaches. Historically, encryption algorithms, with their multifaceted architectures, have been the bulwark against such intrusions. However, their inherently-complex nature, entailing multiple encryption cycles, strains the limited energy reserves of typical IoT devices. In response to this intricate dilemma, we present a hybrid lightweight encryption strategy. Our algorithm innovatively leverages both one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) chaotic key generators. Furthermore, it amalgamates a classical encryption philosophy, harmonizing the strengths of Feistel and substitution-permutation networks. The centerpiece of our strategy is achieving effective encryption in merely three rounds, tailored expressly for compressed Three-Dimensional Video (3DV) frames, ensuring their unwavering integrity. Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most significant threats to women’s health worldwide, affecting one in eight women and causing over 42,250 deaths in 2024. Early detection plays a crucial role in improving patient outcomes, with mammography being the primary screening method most health organizations recommend. This paper highlights the potential of deep learning (DL) in enhancing diagnostic Accuracy and speed. However, despite the promising results of DL models, the increasing complexity of breast cancer data presents a significant challenge in selecting the most relevant features. We propose a robust DL model incorporating transfer learning (TL) and grey wolf optimization (GWO) to enhance BC diagnosis. The architecture is developed by leveraging multiple deep neural networks, including ResNet and Inception, based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs). These networks are fine-tuned using a mammographic image dataset to optimize model weights and parameters for higher classification accuracy. Additionally, the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Dataset (WBCD) is utilized with GWO to refine feature selection further. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed ensemble method improves robustness, generalization, and detection rates while minimizing false positives and negatives. Large-scale dataset evaluation yielded a precision of 0.942, sensitivity of 0.982, Accuracy of 0.965, and an area under the curve (AUC) value of 0.971. These findings suggest that the proposed framework could significantly enhance patient care and improve healthcare service organization and management. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Decision support system (DSS) is a computer-based tool used to improve decision-making capabilities for any organization, using analysis of the available *** heart-kidney (HK) model proposed in this paper as a DSS simulates the physiological processes of the heart and kidneys in the human body to support cancer detection. The first part of the HK algorithm is inspired by the functions of the heart, where blood molecules (solutions) are sent to the heart, simulating the processes of oxygenation and the pumping of oxygenated blood to the kidneys as a local search. The solutions generated by the heart are then fed into the kidney-inspired algorithm (KA), which performs filtration, reabsorption, secretion, and excretion. The heart component enhances the KA's local search capability, guiding the algorithm toward optimal solutions. The HK model is evaluated on eight test functions, with results compared to those of the heart algorithm and KA alone. Additionally, the HK algorithm's effectiveness as a decision support system is tested on benchmark classification and time series prediction problems, with statistical analysis against existing methods in the literature. Finally, the HK algorithm is applied to cancer detection from microRNA data, demonstrating its potential in optimizing decision-making processes in healthcare. © 2013 IEEE.

Multi-Expert Adaptive Selection: Task-Balancing for All-in-One Image Restoration

The use of a single image restoration framework to achieve multi-task image restoration has garnered significant attention from researchers. However, several practical challenges remain, including meeting the specific and simultaneous demands of different tasks, balancing relationships between tasks, and effectively utilizing task correlations in model design. To address these challenges, this paper explores a multi-expert adaptive selection mechanism. We begin by designing a feature representation method that accounts for both the pixel channel level and the global level, encompassing low-frequency and high-frequency components of the image. Based on this method, we construct a multi-expert selection and ensemble scheme. This scheme adaptively selects the most suitable expert from the expert library according to the content of the input image and the prompts of the current task. It not only meets the individualized needs of different tasks but also achieves balance and optimization across tasks. By sharing experts, our design promotes interconnections between different tasks, thereby enhancing overall performance and resource utilization. Additionally, the multi-expert mechanism effectively eliminates irrelevant experts, reducing interference from them and further improving the effectiveness and accuracy of image restoration. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method is both effective and superior to existing approaches, highlighting its potential for practical applications in multi-task image restoration. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Review of dehazing techniques: challenges and future trends

The phenomenon of atmospheric haze arises due to the scattering of light by minute particles suspended in the atmosphere. This optical effect gives rise to visual degradation in images and videos. The degradation is primarily influenced by two key factors: atmospheric attenuation and scattered light. Scattered light causes an image to be veiled in a whitish veil, while attenuation diminishes the image inherent contrast. Efforts to enhance image and video quality necessitate the development of dehazing techniques capable of mitigating the adverse impact of haze. This scholarly endeavor presents a comprehensive survey of recent advancements in the domain of dehazing techniques, encompassing both conventional methodologies and those founded on machine learning principles. Traditional dehazing techniques leverage a haze model to deduce a dehazed rendition of an image or frame. In contrast, learning-based techniques employ sophisticated mechanisms such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and different deep Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) to create models that can discern dehazed representations by learning intricate parameters like transmission maps, atmospheric light conditions, or their combined effects. Furthermore, some learning-based approaches facilitate the direct generation of dehazed outputs from hazy inputs by assimilating the non-linear mapping between the two. This review study delves into a comprehensive examination of datasets utilized within learning-based dehazing methodologies, elucidating their characteristics and relevance. Furthermore, a systematic exposition of the merits and demerits inherent in distinct dehazing techniques is presented. The discourse culminates in the synthesis of the primary quandaries and challenges confronted by prevailing dehazing techniques. Economical Camera-based Measuring Scheme for Roundabout Traffic

Counting the turning movements in a four-leg roundabout is a challenging task and often executed by vehicle recognition and tracking on traffic videos. In order to obtain accurately all the 12 flow values of the origin-destination (O-D) matrix we need to measure arbitrary chosen 12 linearly independent flow values. However, the larger the area to be observed the more cameras are needed because the good pixel resolution of the vehicles and the proper camera inclination angles are essential. Here we propose a novel measuring scheme, which observes only two roundabout legs instead of observing all the four, as a result obtaining all the 12 flow values requires a reduced number of cameras. Cross-Scenario Device-Free Wireless Sensing with A Free-Energy View

Device-free wireless sensing (DFWS) has gained significant attention due to its high accuracy and privacy-preserving capabilities. DFWS systems work by analyzing the influence pattern of targets on the surrounding wireless signals. However, changes in the sensing scenario can alter signal propagation patterns, causing deep learning models to lose effectiveness in cross-scenario applications. To address this problem, we analyze the information content of different samples from a free-energy view, and provide a new idea to guide the alignment of target scenario samples with source scenario samples based on free-energy. We find that free-energy can measure the degree of scenario knowledge contribution of the samples. Based on this observation, we first perform unsupervised coarse alignment by minimizing the free-energy deviation between scenarios. Next, we iteratively select a few number of high free-energy samples near the decision boundary to fine-Tune the network, achieving scenario fine alignment with a small labeling effort. Extensive experiments on two public datasets and one self-collected dataset show that our proposed method achieves high accuracy in cross-scenario human activity and gesture recognition tasks. © 2014 IEEE.

New security concerns about the transmission of sensitive data over enormous networks of linked devices have arisen with the advent of the 6G era and the broad adoption of massive machine-type communication (MTC). The authors of this paper provide a fresh strategy for MFA and dynamic trust management in 6G networks that make use of AI to solve these issues and improve MTC security. This study presents a novel approach to behavioural profiling that takes into account the strengths and weaknesses of machine-type devices. It was necessary to create simulated data to represent many situations due to the wide range of possible network circumstances, device characteristics, ambient variables, applications load of work, and security needs. The efficacy of the suggested remedy was evaluated during six simulation cycles. The findings showed that the framework can adapt to changing network circumstances and device behaviours, with stability demonstrated across many situations. The accuracy rates for implementing MFA ranged from 0.49 to 0.57. This MFA and AI-driven dynamic trust management framework has great potential to improve 6G network MTC security;its adaptability and resilience provide a solid basis for meeting the security concerns that will inevitably arise in the future of 6G networks. To maximize performance and assure successful deployment, more modifications and real-life testing are suggested. © 2025 IEEE.

Batch Microfabrication of Boron-Doped Diamond-Based Microsensor for Seconds Level Measurement of Dual Parameters of Chemical Oxygen Demand and Conductivity in Tap Water

With increasing concern about water safety, particularly the impact of tap water quality on human health, there is an urgent need for a biologically safe, multiparameter microsensor for rapid, online monitoring of tap water quality. This work reports on a batch fabricable miniature sensor based on microelectromechanical system (MEMS) technology for rapid detection of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and conductivity in tap water. The sensor is a silicon-glass structure comprising a boron-doped diamond (BDD) working electrode with biosafety properties. Three electrodes are integrated into the silicon wafer for the detection of COD, two of which can also be constructed as a conductivity sensing unit. Additionally, a microchamber is integrated into the glass. The excellent linearity (0.992 for COD and 0.996 for conductivity) and ideal detection range of the sensor (5–150 mgL-1 for COD and 98– 890 μS cm-1 for conductivity) are witnessed after a systematic performance investigation, and a satisfactory response time (2 s) was obtained by using a microchamber as the detection unit. As the sensors were prepared in a batch using the MEMS, the response of multiple sensors was verified through experimentation and found to be in good agreement. Furthermore, the impact of conductivity on the detection of COD was examined. In this article, a miniature ( 12 x 12 mm), low-cost, biologically safe dual-parameter sensor for COD and conductivity has been designed and prepared using the MEMS. It provides a core sensor component for online monitoring of multiple parameters in tap water. © 2001-2012 IEEE.
