Critical current characteristics and history dependence in superconducting SmFeAsOF bulk

The superconducting SmFeAsO1−xFx (x=0.2) polycrystalline bulks were prepared by the powder-in-tube (PIT) method. The magnetic field and temperature dependences of critical current densities in the samples were investigated by resistive and ac inductive (Campbell's) methods. It was found that a fairly large shielding current density over 109 A/m2, which is considered to correspond to the local critical current density, flows locally with the perimeter size similar to the average grain size of the bulk samples, while an extremely low transport current density of about 105 A/m2 corresponding to the global critical current density flows through the whole sample. Furthermore, a unique history dependence of global critical current density was observed, i.e., it shows a smaller value in the increasing-field process than that in the decreasing-field process. The history dependence of global critical current characteristic in our case can be ascribed to the existence of the weak-link property between the grains in SmFeAsO1−xFx bulk.

Flux pining properties of columnar defects nucleated by gold ion irradiation was investigated for DyBCO coated conductor. The energy of irradiated gold ions was 320 MeV and 200 MeV and the matching field was 1.0 and 2.0 T, respectively. It was found that the flux pinning strength was significantly enhanced at high magnetic fields. These experimental results were analysed using the summation theory of the elementary pinning forces with the theoretical model of flux creep and flow. It was found that the experimental results can be explained by the theories. The obtained result suggests that columnar defects with larger radius are more effective for pinning because of the larger probability of catching flux lines. © 2009 IEEE.

Performance of a Bi-2223 superconducting magnet consisted by ten double-pancake coils was improved by using iron plates (SS400) for top and bottom flanges. The magnetic field dependence of the critical current density of Bi-2223 tape for magnetic field normal to the tape was determined the maximum magnetic field of the magnet. Hence, a reduction of the normal component of the magnetic field to the tape was achieved by using the iron plates. The magnetic field distribution in the magnet was calculated by a finite element method, and the reduction of the normal magnetic field component was confirmed. The maximum magnetic field at the center of the magnet bore reached 1.30 T at 65.0 K of subcooled liquid nitrogen and 0.70 T at 77.3 K. These values were about 1.6 times higher than the previous magnet and agreed well with the calculated result.

We are interested in properties of the logistic maps with finite precision and theirs sequences. In this paper, we focus on a cyclic part, which we call a loop, in a sequence generated by the logistic map over integers successively, since the loop always exists in the sequence. We can observe loops in sequences generated by the logistic map with irrational numbers as initial values. We will show the relations between loops in sequences generated by the map over integers and real numbers. We will also show a correspondence between these loops by averages of squared differences.

In this paper, we propose a wireless transmission system for full specification high definition television. The proposed system employs the next generation wireless system based on IEEE802.11 TGac. It works on 5 GHz band with 80 MHz bandwidth and has throughput over 1.5 Gbps. In this system, a video data is compressed by JPEG 2000 with error resilience tools. These tools improve error performance against wireless channel, and enable very high throughput communication. computer simulation are used to evaluate the bit error performance's influences to the .video quality.

In this paper, we propose a 4 K digital cinema transmission over 1.2 Gbps wireless LAN system. The proposed system employs the next generation wireless LAN system based on IEEE802.11ac task group. It reaches more than 33 meter propagation distance by using 80 MHz of bandwidth on 5 GHz band. In this system, a video data is compressed by JPEG 2000 with error resilience tools. These tools improve error performance against wireless channel, and enable very high throughput communication. computer simulations are used to evaluate the bit error performance's influences to the video quality. In addition, we implement the proposed system using wired LAN under Windows XP operating system.

In this study, we proposed a powder-layered manufacturing process, a type of rapid prototyping technique, to produce desired bone shapes for transplants using biomaterial powder. In the experiments, we used conventional inkjet-type equipment and orthopedic filling-paste powder (BIOPEX), mainly containing alphatribasic calcium phosphate as the forming material. To solidify the powder, we used a sodium chondroitin sulfate? dibasic sodium succinate anhydride aqueous solution as the binder liquid. This paper discusses the results of investigations on the internal and surface chemical characteristics of formed artificial bones, formed artificial bones hardened by immersion process, and paste type artificial bones used in clinical applications, to determine the suitability of the immersion conditions. The bones were immersed for five hours in immersion fluid made of water and binder liquid at 90 °C?To analyze the chemical constituent, X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used. The results showed that the hydrate reaction caused by the application of the binder fluid during forming enhances hydroxyapatite (HA) concentration by about 6.5 times. With samples immersed in water, HA was found internally as well as from the surface, the quantity of which was about 80?, 11 times more than conventional paste type artificial bone. On the other hand, with the samples immersed in the binder fluid, no HA crystals were detected internally. The percentages of P and Ca present on the surface were minute. Given the high quantities of C, O, and Na present, the immersion process is thought to have formed a thin layer of binder fluid. These results from the experimental samples indicate that immersion in binder fluid which showed no problems in terms of chemistry and strength is most appropriate for clinical applications.

Performance evaluation is a serious challenge in designing or optimizing reconfigurable instruction set processors. The conventional approaches based on synthesis and simulations are very time consuming and need a considerable design effort. A combined analytical and simulation-based model (CAnSO*) is proposed and validated for performance evaluation of a typical reconfigurable instruction set processor. The proposed model consists of an analytical core that incorporates statistics gathered from cycle-accurate simulation to make a reasonable evaluation and provide a valuable insight. Compared to cycle-accurate simulation results, CAnSO proves almost 2% variation in the speedup measurement.

STM fluorescence of porphyrin enhanced by a strong plasmonic field and its nanoscale confinement in an STM cavity

We have investigated scanning tunneling microscope-induced luminescence (STML) from porphyrin molecules by varying the tip (PtIr, Ag, and Au)/substrate (Pt, Ag, Au, and indium tin oxide) combinations. Strong molecular fluorescence by highest-occupied molecular orbital and lowest-unoccupied molecular orbital transition comparable to plasmon-mediated light is emitted only when both the substrate and the tip are metals but not in other cases. Along with calculations of relative electromagnetic-field powers in the tip-substrate gaps, the enhancement of STML from molecules can be interpreted in terms of the strong plasmon field and its confinement in an STM cavity. We also find rather strong energy-forbidden fluorescence of porphyrin in an Au-tip/porphyrin/Au cavity that occurs under the extremely strong field in the plasmonic nanocavity.
