This paper presents a torque and rotational speed estimation method for line-start induction motor operated valves. Routine inspections are carried out to those valves, because motor operated valves are used in the serious plant such as power plant. and securing reliability is an extreme important matter for these systems. Movement environments in these plants are high temperature and humidity, so it is difficult to put sensors near motors. In such a case, we must find the trouble of the system without torque sensor or speed sensor. The proposal method can estimate the torque and rotational speed of induction motor by using time-series data of voltages and currents at the switchboard. Furthermore, we propose the parameter identification method of mutual inductance by comparing the inner and outer products between voltages and currents. First, a torque and rotational speed of induction motor are estimated. Next, a mutual inductance parameter is got. Last, the proposed estimation method is verified by results of experiment.

Bagging has been known to be successful in increasing the accuracy of prediction of the unstable classifiers. In bagging predictors are constructed using bootstrap samples from the training sets and then aggregated to form a bagged predictor. The robust bagging discard the bootstrapped classifiers generating extreme error rates, as estimated by the out-of-bag error rate and to combine over the remaining ones using the robust location estimator,'median'. In this paper we try to explore the advantages of robust bagging. We carried out experiments on several benchmark data sets and suggest from the results that robust bagging performs quite similar compare to the standard bagging when applied to unstable base classifiers such as decision trees, but performs better when applied to more stable base classifiers as Fisher linear discriminant analysis and nearest mean classifier.

This paper proposes and evaluates a new task scheduling method for parallel and distributed applications in an environment consisting of multiple networks having different characteristics. The proposed method can schedule both streaming applications and non-streaming applications effectively at the same time, since it selects the most suitable networks for the communications of tasks and considers the changing loads of the networks. The experimental results show the proposed method reduced the total execution time of a practical streaming application. The dispersion of the execution time was also suppressed even if the network bandwidth was dynamically changing. This characteristic is very important when this method is applied to more complicated task scheduling methods.

This paper presents a topology reconstruction method to explore better trade-off points between search and access load balancing performance in unstructured Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file sharing networks. The proposed topology reconstruction method changes a network topology in a dynamic, autonomous, and decentralized manner. The topology reconstruction is based on local threshold-based rules that use query trails, which stand for information on previous successful search paths. The scenario for the evaluation of the proposed method is that the topology reconstruction method consisting of the local threshold-based rules operates to explore the performance trade-off in the situation that new kinds of files are about to spread over a power-law network. The simulation results show that, depending on the setting of the threshold values, compared to the case without topology reconstruction, the proposed method can explore better trade-off points between search and storage access load balancing performance in the assumed scenario.

In this paper, we present an approach to the selection of principal colors for the class of logo images. The approach is using multiple objectives that can be assigned to a color set, qualifying the selected colors as being principal colors of the image. Since all these objectives have a different preference, and have different computational complexity and granularity, it is not useful to put them all together into a single objective vector. Instead, a three stages procedure is proposed. The first stage optimizes only objectives of high relevance, and lower computational effort. Here, evolutionary multi-objective optimization is used. The second stage re-evaluates the Pareto set of the first stage according to an additional set of objectives. Finally, one solution of the Pareto set from the second stage is selected according to a single objective of highest preference. As suitable objectives for the first stage, the average minimum distance of the color set to the image pixels, together with the average number of pixel that are closer than a threshold have been found. The approach was studied on a number of logo images, and it could reconstruct the logo images of good visual quality from the found principal colors in the majority of the cases. The experiments also show that the result is usually improved by searching for more principal colors than are present in the logo image, and by repeating the process to find also small, but notable detail structures.

Defects not described by conventional fault models are a challenge for state-of-the-art fault diagnosis techniques. The X-fault model has been introduced recently as a modeling technique for complex defect mechanisms. We analyze the performance of the X-fault diagnosis for a number of defect classes leading to highly complex circuit behavior on electrical level. Experiments performed using accurate resistive-bridge and interconnect-open simulators demonstrate the superiority of X-fault diagnosis over traditional methods.
