An on-line scheme to fault detection in adaptive control systems is proposed by introducing Kullbaek Discrimination Information (KDI) as a detection index. When a physical parameter change due to a failure has occurred in a system under adaptive control, the failure effect will hardly be visible in the output performance because of the adaptation mechanism. Such a parameter change is also difficult to detect by monitoring the regulator parameters, which are determined by a recursive identification based on the direct approach. Since the failure effect is reflected as a change in the predictor model used for the adaptive control design, the fault detection leads to a model discrimination problem. It has been shown that the KDI can be used as an effective distortion measure for the model discrimination and the index can be applied in a modified form to detect a fault on-line. Simulation studies on a second order damped oscillatory system have been carried out to demonstrate the efficiency of the method.

This book discusses recent advances and research in applied mathematics, statistics and their applications in computing. It features papers presented at the fourth conference in the series organized at the Indian institute of technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi, India, on 9 – 11 January 2018 on areas of current interest, including operations research, soft computing, applied mathematical modelling, cryptology, and security analysis. The conference has emerged as a powerful forum, bringing together leading academic scientists, experts from industry, and researchers and offering a venue to discuss, interact and collaborate to stimulate the advancement of mathematics and its applications in computerscience.;The education of future consumers, users, producers, developers and researchers of mathematics and its applications is an important challenge in modern society, and as such, mathematics and its application in computerscience are of vital significance to all spectrums of the community, as well as to mathematicians and computing professionals across different educational levels and disciplines. With contributions by leading international experts, this book motivates and creates interest among young researchers.

Agents are software processes that perceive and act in an environment, processing their perceptions to make intelligent decisions about actions to achieve their goals. Multi-agent systems have multiple agents that work in the same environment to achieve either joint or conflicting goals. Agent computing and technology is an exciting, emerging paradigm expected to play a key role in many society-changing practices from disaster response to manufacturing to agriculture. Agent and mul- agent researchers are focused on building working systems that bring together a broad range of technical areas from market theory to software engineering to user interfaces. Agent systems are expected to operate in real-world environments, with all the challenges complex environments present. After 11 successful PRIMA workshops/conferences (Pacific-Rim International Conference/Workshop on Multi-Agents), PRIMA became a new conference titled “International Conference on Principles of Practice in Multi-Agent systems” in 2009. With over 100 submissions, an acceptance rate for full papers of 25% and 50% for posters, a demonstration session, an industry track, a RoboCup competition and workshops and tutorials, PRIMA has become an important venue for multi-agent research. Papers submitted are from all parts of the world, though with a higher representation of Pacific Rim countries than other major multi-agent research forums. This volume presents 34 high-quality and exciting technical papers on multimedia research and an additional 18 poster papers that give brief views on exciting research.

WSC2008Chair’s Welcome Message Dear Colleague, The World Soft Computing (WSC) conference is an annual international online conference on applied and theoretical soft computing technology. This WSC 2008 is the thirteenth conference in this series and it has been a great success. We received a lot of excellent paper submissions which were peer-reviewed by an international team of experts. Only60 papers out of111 submissions were selected for online publication. This assured a high quality standard for this online conference. The corresponding online statistics are a proof of the great world-wide interest in the WSC 2008 conference. The conference website had a total of33,367di?erent human user accessesfrom43 countries with around100 visitors every day,151 people signed up to WSC to discuss their scienti?c disciplines in our chat rooms and the forum. Also audio and slide presentations allowed a detailed discussion of the papers. The submissions and discussions showed that there is a wide range of soft computing applications to date. The topics covered by the conference range from applied to theoretical aspects of fuzzy, neuro-fuzzy and rough sets over to neural networks to single and multi-objective optimisation. Contributions aboutparticleswarmoptimisation, geneexpressionprogramming, clustering, classi?cation, supportvectormachines, quantumevolutionandagentsystems have also been received. One whole session was devoted to soft computing techniques in computer graphics, imaging, vision and signal processing.
