Prompt photon production in sNN=2.76-TeV Pb+Pb collisions has been measured by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider using data collected in 2011 with an integrated luminosity of 0.14 nb−1. Inclusive photon yields, scaled by the mean nuclear thickness function, are presented as a function of collision centrality and transverse momentum in two pseudorapidity intervals, |η|<1.37 and 1.52≤|η|<2.37. The scaled yields in the two pseudorapidity intervals, as well as the ratios of the forward yields to those at midrapidity, are compared to the expectations from next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD (pQCD) calculations. The measured cross sections agree well with the predictions for proton-proton collisions within statistical and systematic uncertainties. Both the yields and the ratios are also compared to two other pQCD calculations, one which uses the isospin content appropriate to colliding lead nuclei and another which includes nuclear modifications to the nucleon parton distribution functions.

Current-carrying capacity of HTS DC cables with the reduced Lorentz force

The structure of superconducting DC cable made with high temperature superconducting tapes is designed to improve the current-carrying capacity by reducing the Lorentz force acting on flux lines. For this purpose an axial magnetic field is produced by the outer shield conductor. The analysis was performed for the optimum structure for various superconducting tapes with different Jc(B,θ) characteristics. It is found that the current-carrying capacity increases appreciably when the difference in the critical current density of the tape is large enough between normal and parallel magnetic fields.

This paper proposes a model for city-scale EV infrastructures. Recent advances both in EV battery technology and alternative battery ownership formulations have created favorable conditions for houses where EVs are used not only for commuting but also as one of the main power supplies. Power supplied by EVs is a natural complement for solar panels, where the former is the only choice at night when solar panels cannot function by definition. The proposed model is based on a system of practical considerations with the main objective to build simulations as close to reality as possible. The model is applicable to a wide range of simulations including EV infrastructures, distributed power microgrids, smart cities, etc.

One of our investigation purposes is to give a design guide of a pseudorandom number generator using the logistic map with finite precision. In the present paper, we show that two sequences for slightly different parameters are completely different from each other, even if the logistic map has the same computational precision and the same initial values. First, we decide the arithmetic precision and the initial value. Second, we obtain two sequences by the logistic map for slightly different parameters. Last, we estimate a correlation of them by measuring the distance between two elements.

Most cells of multicellular organisms have "primary cilia", which are single, non-motile, and sensory cilia. They have been reported to detect mechanical stimulation and transform it into internal cell, but the mechanisms are not still well known. Dermal papilla (DP) cells, which locate in the skin and regulate hair follicle development and hair cycle, were reported to have their primary cilia by immune-fluorescent method [1], but their detailed structure and function is *** observation by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), biological specimens are conventionally fixed with glutaraldehyde and dehydrated in 30%, 50%, 70%, 90% and 100% ethanol. Then specimens are dried by butyl alcohol and coated with gold. It takes several days to prepare these specimens. Using many chemical reagent and many steps in this way may lead to destroy biological specimens structure. Here we attempted a recently proposed method using ionic liquid to prepare cell samples in near- living conditions observed the structure of DP cells (2D and clumps) with primary *** time, we used ionic liquid for preparing specimens. First, cultured cells were fixed in glutaraldehyde, and immersed in ionic liquid. Next, the specimens were coated with gold and observed by SEM. Thus, it takes shorter time due to fewer step than conventional method and the process has no drying step. In a conventional way, we got the micrographs of 2D cultured DP cells and observed the cilium of DP cells (200-nm in diameter and 1.5um in length) on nucleus (15-um). In addition we could observe the clumps of DP cells and the cilia-like structure (∼12-um), but they do not attach to scaffoldings of the surface, probably due to drying. In observation using ionic liquid, we got the micrographs of 2D cultured DP cells and observed the cilium- like structure (200-nm in diameter and 2.1-um in length) on nucleus (30-um), as well. A decision diagram machine (DDM) is a special-purpose processor that uses special instructions to evaluate a decision diagram. This paper presents a packet classifier using a parallel edge-valued multi-valued decision diagram (EVMDD (k)) machine. To reduce computation time and code size, first, a rule set for the packet classifier is partitioned into groups. Then, the parallel EVMDD (k) machine evaluates them. We implemented the parallel EVMDD (k) machine consisting of 32 EVMDD (4) machines on an FPGA, and compared it with the Intel's Core i5 microprocessor running at 1.7GHz. Our machine is 7.8-40.1 times faster than the Core i5, and it requires only 12.0-52.6 percents of the memory for the Core~i5.

We are interested in the properties of sequences generated by the logistic map over integers. In the present paper, we give the Lyapunov exponents of the sequences generated by the map. Then, we confirm good correlations between a sign of the exponents and a few properties of randomness such as averages periods and link-lengths, and an occurrence rate of `0' bit in the generated sequence. Then, we prove that the exponent indicates stability of the sequence.
