In a soft decision Viterbi decoder, the log-likelihood ratio (LLR) metric is used to improve the performance of the error correction. On linear systems under additive white gaussian noise channel, this is straightforward as the error distribution at the input of the Viterbi decoder is also gaussian. In non-linear systems such as the M-ary non-coherent non-orthogonal frequency shift keying (FSK), this is generally not true. However, non-orthogonal non-coherent FSK LLR has not yet been proposed in literature. In this paper we derived the LLR for the M-ary non-orthogonal FSK mathematically and verified it using simulations.

The process of collaborative creative work and the ability to record and circulate the results are important. Previously, we had proposed a label capturing system for the group KJ method that uses Anoto-based pens. The system instantly digitizes the position and content of each label containing ideas and thoughts, and then it generates KJ diagrams for distribution. The users can also edit the visual properties of the KJ diagrams by writing gestures with their pens on target labels. However, the system could only accept pre-defined gestures, and the users could not register their own patterns. In order to eliminate these restrictions, we introduce a mechanism to register user-defined gesture commands. After users register their original gestures, they can change the appearance of labels with their favorite pen movements. By applying the mechanism to our group KJ system, the user's experience and understanding of the system are improved.

In this paper, we evaluate the performance of the next generation standard IEEE 802.11ac wireless local area network (WLAN) system. IEEE 802.11 for the first time will employ downlink multi-user multi-input multi-output (MU-MIMO) technology. Precoding techniques greatly influences the performance of MU-MIMO transmission. We measure these improvements when realistic channel conditions are applied. We compare the performance of channel inversion (CI) and block diagonalization (BD) precoding methods paired with various MIMO detection techniques. From the simulation results, we show the effectiveness of BD precoding compared to CI precoding.

This paper presents a common interface for Prolog to three different types of discrete solvers including Constraint Programming (CP), Integer Programming (IP), and SAT solvers. The interface comprises primitives for creating decision variables, specifying constraints, and invoking a solver, possibly with an objective function to be optimized. Before a solver is actually called, the accumulated variables and constraints are transformed into a form acceptable to the solver. For a SAT solver, in particular, variables are Booleanized and constraints are compiled into CNF. Implemented in B-Prolog, the interface allows the programmer to use the features of the host language such as recursion, pattern matching, arrays, and loops to describe problems. The interface provides an easy and uniform platform for exploring different solvers and models. This paper compares the performance of the CLP(FD) of B-Prolog, the CPLEX IP solver, and the Lingeling SAT solver on several problems through the same interface and for each problem it compares a model that uses Boolean variables and another model that uses general integer variables. Our experience tells that it is effortless to switch from one solver to another.

It is often discussed that the fourth methodology for science research is "informatics". The first methodology is a theoretic approach, the second one is observation and/or experiment, and the third one is computer simulation. Informatics is a new methodology for data intensive science, which is a new concept based on the fact that most scientific data are digitalized and the amount of data is huge. The facilities to support informatics are cloud systems. Herein we propose a cloud system especially designed for science.
