In this paper, we evaluate the performance of the next generation standard IEEE 802.11ac wireless local area network (WLAN) system. IEEE 802.11 for the first time will employ downlink multi-user multi-input multi-output (MU-MIMO) technology. Precoding techniques greatly influences the performance of MU-MIMO transmission. We measure these improvements when realistic channel conditions are applied. We compare the performance of channel inversion (CI) and block diagonalization (BD) precoding methods paired with various MIMO detection techniques. From the simulation results, we show the effectiveness of BD precoding compared to CI precoding.

This paper characterizes distributed XML processing on networking nodes. XML documents are sent from a client node to a server node through relay nodes, which process the documents before arriving at the server. According as the node topology, the XML documents are processed in a pipelining manner or a parallel fashion. We evaluate distributed XML processing with synthetic and realistic XML documents on real and virtual environments. Characterization of well-formedness and grammar validation processing via pipelining and parallel models reveals inherent advantages of the parallel processing model.

We present a mean-field theory to describe biaxial nematic phases of side-chain liquid crystalline elastomers. Novel biaxial nematic phases are theoretically predicted in a side-chain liquid crystalline polymer and gel, where side chains (mesogens) and rigid-backbone chains favor mutually perpendicular orientations. We calculate uniaxial and biaxial orientational order parameters and examine deformations of the gel and stable biaxial nematic phases of the liquid crystalline gel dissolved in isotropic solvents. We predict first-order uniaxial-biaxial nematic phase transitions of the gel and the volume of the gel is discontinuously changed at the phase transition temperature.

We propose a packet delayed lattice reduction aided MIMO detection for 802.11n system. Lattice reduction algorithms are iterative in nature that results in long latency. In high throughput systems like 802.11n, reduction of latency via parallelization causes high hardware complexity. Without parallelization, the receiver needs to buffer the incoming data until the lattice reduction finishes. Depending on the latency of the lattice reduction, this buffering may cause deep memory requirements as well as missed interframe space deadline requirement. In this paper, we resolve this problem by foregoing buffering of incoming data for the current packet and use the output of lattice reduction to the next packet after the computation is finished. We show that lattice aided MIMO detection can be delayed for as much as 15ms with negligible effect on performance.

The pinning parameters for numerical calculation based on the flux creep-flow model are determined by using genetic algorithm (GA), which has been applied to many practical determination for parameters. Several estimation functions which describe the distance between the experimental and calculated results by GA were proposed, and the difference between the results were calculated. It is found that the pinning parameters of the flux creep-flow model are successfully deduced by GA. The difference between the calculated and experimental results and the calculation time are found to be largely depended on the estimation functions.

We first propose an asynchronous P system that solves the k-coloring for a graph with n nodes, and show that the proposed P system works in O(k n n 2 ) sequential steps or O(n 2 ) parallel steps using O(n 2 ) kinds of objects.
