The authors have measured electroence-phalograms (EEGs) from a subject watching a line drawing of a body part and recalling its name silently. The equivalent current dipole source localization (ECDL) method has been applied to the event related potentials (ERPs). The dominant language area of the present subject was considered to be located on the right hemisphere. ECDs were localized to the right middle temporal gyrus;the angular gyrus. Then ECDs were localized to the right fusiform gyrus, the right middle temporal pole (TEP) and the right inferior temporal white matter (TWM). These areas are located in the ventral pathway, and are related to the image recognition at higher visual recognition.

Measurements of normalized differential cross sections for top-quark pair production are presented as a function of the top-quark transverse momentum, and of the mass, transverse momentum, and rapidity of the tt¯ system, in proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s=7 TeV. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb−1, recorded in 2011 with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Events are selected in the lepton+jets channel, requiring exactly one lepton and at least four jets with at least one of the jets tagged as originating from a b-quark. The measured spectra are corrected for detector efficiency and resolution effects and are compared to several Monte Carlo simulations and theory calculations. The results are in fair agreement with the predictions in a wide kinematic range. Nevertheless, data distributions are softer than predicted for higher values of the mass of the tt¯ system and of the top-quark transverse momentum. The measurements can also discriminate among different sets of parton distribution functions.

Condensation Energy Density Properties of Ba-122 Pnictide Superconductor with Columnar Defects Introduced by Heavy-ion Irradiation

It is important to investigate condensation energy density of superconducting material, since it determines its pinning property. According to the heavy-ion irradiation, the columnar defects are introduced to the superconductor which act as the strong pinning centers, and the critical current density is enhanced by the new pinning centers. Since the number density and the size of the columnar defects can be observed, the condensation energy density is estimated by using the pinning summation theory. In the present study, we prepared Ba(Fe0.93Co0.07)2As2 (Ba-122) pnictide superconductors by self-ﬂux method. 200 MeV Au ions were irradiated into the specimens along c -axis and the matching ﬁeld was 2 T. After the irradiation, the critical current density was 6 times larger than that before the irradiation. The estimated condensation energy density is in the order of 10 4 J/m 3 and is slightly smaller than those of cuprate superconductors. The temperature dependence is similar to that of YBa2Cu3O x oxide superconductors, since the anisotropy parameter is small in Ba-122. Therefore, it is expected to use Ba-122 at high temperatures near the critical temperature.

In this review paper, we report the characteristics of the critical current density in FeAs based superconductors which is newly discovered by Hosono group of Tokyo institute of technology on 2008. Since the many specimens in present stage are not single crystals, there are two kinds of critical current density observed in the specimens which are so-called local and global critical current densities. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate both kinds of critical current densities. The history effect in which the global critical current density shows different values in increasing and decreasing magnetic field is also observed when the specimens have the local and the global critical current densities. The wire which critical current is 180 A is successfully developed with using the knowledge of abovementioned characteristics of two kinds of critical current densities and the history effect.

In designing e-learning, it is desirable that individual learner's learning style is considered. This study proposes a way to present the information about the expected adaptability of the course, in which a student wishes to enroll, based on the student's responses to the learning preference questionnaire administered at the beginning of the course. As the result of applying the real data to the model derived, it was confirmed that it would be possible to estimate the course adaptability before taking the course and to provide the information for the student to improve his/her course adaptability based on the student's responses to the learning preference questionnaire. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

We propose a novel quantization method for human likelihood or preference using rank data. We estimate an evaluation function by assuming that the data is sorted on the basis of observed function values and that the observation includes some errors. We use the difference in the rank order to estimate the corresponding function. Then, its performance will vary depending on the settings. Our data are normally distributed random numbers. First, function values are given as normally distributed random numbers, and after that, observed values are given by adding normally distributed random errors. The performance will depend on the difference in the variances of two normal distributions: for the function values and for the error values. We present a test to evaluate the proposed method by using random data. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

In the present paper, we consider the asynchronous parallelism in membrane computing, and propose asynchronous P systems that perform two basic arithmetic operations and factorization. We first propose a P system that computes addition of two binary numbers of m bits. The P system works in O(m) sequential and parallel steps using O(m) types of objects. We next propose a P system for multiplication of the two binary numbers of m bits, and show that the P system works in O(m log m) parallel steps or O(m3) sequential steps using O(m2) types of objects. Finally, we propose a P system for factorization of a positive integer of m bits using the above P system as a sub-system. The P system computes the factorization in O(m log m) parallel steps or O(4 m x m2 log m) sequential steps using O(m 2) types of objects. © 2011 IEEE.

This study characterizes distributed XML processing on networking nodes. XML documents are sent from a client node to a server node through relay nodes, which process the documents before arriving at the server. When the relay nodes are connected tandem, the XML documents are processed in a pipelining manner. When the relay nodes are connected parallel, the XML documents are processed in a parallel fashion. Well-formedness and grammar validation pipelining and parallel processing characterization reveals inherent advantages of the parallel processing model.

Properties of Binary Si:H Materials Prepared by Hydrogen Plasma Sputtering

Binary Si:H materials are prepared by means of the rf sputtering technique in pure hydrogen atmosphere on low temperature (about 100 K) and room temperature substrates. The physical properties of the obtained materials are very much affected by the rf power and substrate temperature during the deposition. The material prepared at a low substrate temperature with a low rf power has a wide optical gap, and shows a visible photoluminescence at room temperature. On the other hand, the material prepared at room temperature with a high rf power contains many Si microcrystals, whose diameters are relatively large, and its optical gap becomes very small. The latter condition causes the dependence of the crystalline direction of the material film on the substrate crystal even at the room temperature. An rf power-modulated multi-layered structure (superlattice) is also proposed, and an apparent diffraction peak can be observed in the low-angle X-ray scattering measurement.

Multi-user MIMO has been recently proposed as a required technology for next generation 802.11 WLAN systems. This new system which will be called 802.11ac, will provide at least 1Gbps of multi-station throughput and at least 500Mbps of single station throughput. While linear precoding can be readily used to achieve this with little complexity, we explore the possibility of employing the non-linear scheme called dirty paper coding. Dirty paper coding is of recent interest in MIMO systems due to the possibility of achieving capacity. We show through simulations that dirty paper coding is promising as an alternative precoding scheme for 802.11ac. © 2011 Global IT Research Inst.
