This paper presents the methods which make a design process of control system efficient. The real-time control framework makes writing real-time control programs easy. Real-time control programs are generated from simulation program automatically. The idea of an object model and the factory method pattern are used for automatic generation of real-time control program. Separation of platform dependent parts makes non real-time parts can be independent from platform. We develop a platform integrated environment of the simulation and the real-time control for control system using above methods.

In this paper, we propose an efficient control method with a sliding mode technique to realize a high-precision and a high-speed positioning control. This method makes a response of a real system follows the reference precisely even under the condition that the modeling errors exist between the numerical feed forward model and the real system. A model following control is used to generally recognize as a high performance positioning. But, ordinary there are several modeling errors existing between the numerical model and the real system. We pick up a mass error and a dynamical friction error. In this proposal method, we assign two places non-linear gains. One non-linear gain is the gain of the velocity reference from the feed forward part and the other is the gain of the force reference. As we use this method, a feed forward loop and a feed back loop are not changed. So, this method has no influence on the stability. In this proposal method, the gains are decided with a phase plane of a sliding mode control.

An autonomous robot and a mobile robot are expected to provide various services within the human living environment. But there are many problems to solve in trying to develop autonomous robots that can work like humans. Therefore, the environment for robot activity assumed in this study was a finite space such as a family room, an office, or a hospital room. So, accurate position estimation is important to the robot in achieving a success. Thus we have developed a navigation system that detects whether the robot is driving accurately using only a CCD camera in a room and a corridor. This paper describes that this systems are implemented and experimented with our developed robot.

In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in monitoring and analyzing dynamic performances of power systems, such as observation of power system oscillations and evaluation of machine parameters. However, in Japan, there was little observation as a whole power system. In this paper the authors present a global monitoring system of power system dynamics by using the synchronized phasor measurement of demand side. Authors have placed phasor measurement units (PMU) connected to 100 V outlets in some universities in Japan and been researching into oscillation characteristics in power systems. Phasor measurements are synchronized based on the global positioning system (GPS) and measurement data are transmitted via Internet. Some oscillative features and variation of phasor in a day, a week or a year are analyzed using the acquired data. The purpose of this paper is to show a power system dynamic performance by the use of measurement data at an unexpected disturbance and monitors a global and a local oscillation mode.

This paper focuses on numerical function generators (NFGs) based on k-th order polynomial approximations. We show that increasing the polynomial order k reduces significantly the NFG's memory size. However, larger k requires more logic elements and multipliers. To quantify this tradeoff, we introduce the FPGA utilization measure, and then determine the optimum polynomial order k. Experimental results show that: 1) for low accuracies (up to 17 bits), 1st order polynomial approximations produce the most efficient implementations; and 2) for higher accuracies (18 to 24 bits), 2nd-order polynomial approximations produce the most efficient implementations.

We have developed so far an automatic discrimination system of human sleep EEG stages based on a waveshape recognition method. These systems were able to detect discrete stages (stage MT, W, 1, 2, 3, 4, REM). However, they are not sufficient to extract much information in detail. Therefore, in order to extract more precise information for sleep stages, we have tried to analyze the sleep EEG in its time-frequency domain by employing a continuous wavelet transform based on Gabor wavelets. In this paper, a modified wavelet transform method is proposed. It has the feature that the damping coefficient of Gabor wavelets is adjusted by a sigmoid function. In the experiments, compared with the ordinary wavelet transform with some constant damping coefficients, it has been confirmed that the modified wavelet transform method can have the adequate frequency resolution for analyzing frequency components of sleep EEG.

In this paper, we propose a technique to realize a high efficiency drive for a IPM(Interior Permanent Magnet) motor in normal speed region. In this method, we pay attention to the torque equation of the IPM motor. We realize high efficiency drive by controlling the vector angle of the stator current. As for the high efficiency control, we define the optimum angle as the stator current angle which makes the torque biggest about a certain stator current value. The optimum angle is shown as the equation about the stator current value. In addition, we propose the methods to find out the optimum angle for the real system by changing the stator current angle around the calculating optimum angle in the low frequency. This technique is realized by uniting between the motor drive region and the mechatronics control region. By using this technique, we can detect a high efficiency optimum angle.

The main focus of current research in trusted operating systems (TOS) is on the enhanced access control of reference monitors which, in turn, control the individual operations on a given access instance. However, many real-life runtime attacks involve behavioral semantics. We have proposed an extended reference monitor to support both access and behavior controls. This results in a sequence of operations which are also of concern in security enforcement. This paper presents a policy language for the extended reference monitor. Our policy language is based on domain and type enforcement (DTE) and role-based access control (RBAC). Permission is defined as an event and a state of behavior is represented as a fluent to be accorded with the convention of event calculus (EC). Behavior policies can be expressed with the EC style syntax as well as access control policies

Most wire communication systems utilize communication lines as power lines. The powered terminal needs to separate ac communication signals and dc supply power in its input part connected to the communication lines. In our communication system, it is preferable that the electronic choke be bidirectional. So, we have already proposed a low-loss electronic choke with small inductors and an amplifier. This circuit can be also used in the powering terminal. The electronic choke has high input impedance against communication signals. The frequency range of acceptable signals is determined mainly by resonance frequency of the inductors. In this paper, a method fitting this frequency range to the communication signal is proposed. To realize this, we introduce an inductor having new structure and external connection. By the effective use of electric coupling and magnetic coupling in windings, input impedance of the electronic choke is increased.

A distribution center generally tends to fall into operational disorder due to fluctuation in the quantity and variety of the daily orders. Hence, a novel methodology to deal with such problems is strongly required. This paper presents a new concept called "design space" in order to model the individual operation know-how. The planning procedure for a comprehensive operation can be represented as a chain of small design spaces. We focused primarily on the operation of an order picking system with a conveyor and a pick-to-light in the center. We then performed a problem analysis in order to formulate the practical models of the operation management plans by using design space, and we implemented them as a knowledge base. We carried out a simulation of the future operation plan using the data of a past work log from an actual distribution center and obtained successful results with improved throughput and shorter process time. © 2006 IEEE.
