Maximum power point tracking of a partially shaded solar photovoltaic system using a modified firefly algorithm-based controller

Solar photovoltaic (PV) system is one of the most promising power systems based on renewable energy sources, with several advantages compared to others. However, solar PV systems have a challenge of low conversion efficiency because most of the irradiances of the sun, which are channelled to the PV panels, are not fully utilized for power consumption. A more challenging situation of the system occurs when some of its panels are obstructed from full reception of the solar irradiance, a case referred to as partial shading conditions (PSC) in solar PV systems. This leads to the generation of multiple, unequal power peaks in the system, from which the one with the highest power must be tracked for optimum utilization of the system. To this regard, this work presents a modified firefly algorithm-based controller, tied operationally with a DC–DC boost converter. A model was developed and simulated on MATLAB, for tracking the maximum power point of the system, both at constant solar irradiance and at PSC.

In today's world, countries establish large companies specifically designed to effectively manage the risks associated with volatility exchange rates and leveraged assets. Bitcoin is widely recognized as the leading cryptocurrency, making it highly appealing to investors and traders. The recorded data reveals a growing number of transactions conducted using Bitcoin cryptocurrency. Consequently, accurately predicting the volatility of Bitcoin's conditional heteroskedasticity holds significant importance for the financial markets. Cryptocurrencies present a challenging situation due to their complex dynamics, extreme observations, asymmetry, and various other non-linear features. Modeling these cryptocurrencies accurately becomes difficult using statistical models, as they fail to consider the leverage effect and provide precise predictions. In this paper, we have employed a hybrid modeling approach by utilizing MLP neural network and GARCH statistical model. The experiments conducted on Bitcoin time series data have yielded promising results, showcasing a notable reduction in the prediction error of conditional heteroskedasticity volatility.

This research proposes a quad-mode H-beam metasurface (MTS)-embedded dual-band circularly-polarized (CP) multi-tiered antenna scheme with 5G (n79) and Wi-Fi 6E capabilities. The proposed antenna scheme consists of three layers of corner-truncated FR-4 substrates without an air gap. The upper substrate contains an array of 3 × 4 H-beam MTS elemental units tilted at 49°. The middle substrate is a copper plate with a horizontal Z-shaped slot at its center functioning as the ground plane, and the lower substrate contains a microstrip feed line. Characteristic mode analysis (CMA) is employed to optimize the circular polarization of the MTS structure. Results show that Modes 1 & 2 at 4.81 GHz and Modes 4 & 9 at 6.2 GHz contribute to CP radiation. The measured return loss bandwidths of the antenna are 19.37% (4.63 – 5.56 GHz) and 9.51% (5.97 – 6.56 GHz) for the 5G (n79) and Wi-Fi 6E bands. The measured axial ratio bandwidths are 13.33% (4.6 – 5.24 GHz) and 1.77% (6.15 – 6.26 GHz), with maximum gains of 5.2 and 3.9 dBic at 5.5 and 6.2 GHz, respectively. Unlike conventional MTS-based CP antennas which employ rectangular- or square-shaped MTS elements for single-band operation, this work utilizes H-beam-shaped MTS elemental units to achieve dual-band CP capability. Additionally, rather than traditional full-wave methods, CMA is used to optimize circular polarization. Essentially, the proposed antenna scheme is suitable for 5G (n79) and Wi-Fi 6E communications. © 2013 IEEE.

In this research, a telecommunication standard fiber Bragg grating is sputtered with a 45 nm gold film to obtain surface plasmon resonance. Carbon nanotubes are deposited over the gold layer for sensitivity enhancement due to its unique chemical and optical properties. The developed sensor is interrogated with a broad-spectrum light source and spectrophotometer setup in the visible region and the sensing performance is analyzed. The sensor showed high sensitivity of 526 nm/RIU which was more than 4 time higher than a sensor without the carbon nanotubes enhancement. This shows great promise in the application of CNTs and possibly other sensitive nanomaterials as sensing enhancements of future sensing using optical fibers. © 2023 IEEE.

DNS over HTTPS (DoH) Tunneling is a technique used to encapsulate the information or programs of other protocols into the DNS protocol with the encrypted form for communication. On the strength of DNS as the core component in internet communication, DoH straightens data privacy with less restriction and qualification of tunneling techniques, the attackers take advantage of exploring DoH Tunneling traffic to initial and deploy their activities, such as command and control communication and data exfiltration. Keeping their assets safe is becoming a critical issue for every organization. Based on our knowledge and investigation, currently, there are only flow-level feature analysis solutions that have been made, and they don't have any methods using single packet information to detect the DoH Tunneling traffic. it can't be used passive data analysis methods such as the active detection system's flow-level detection system. Therefore, in this paper, the first packet-level feature analysis solution to detect DoH Tunneling traffic by using only five selected features from the packet and a study of the number of packets inside flow learning for this traffic detection is proposed. As a result, Random Forest can perform well, with a high accuracy of up to 99.93% among other algorithms.

Nowadays, the high demand application of video and photo captured system is significantly undeniable. However, difficulties come to obtain a good image from a camera that mounted on a moving object due to vibration issues. Therefore, the use of an effective controller is required to eliminate disturbances hence ensuring gimbal stability. This leads the development proposed to two degree of freedom (2-DOF) gimbal system. The 2-DOF gimbal system contains of two stabilization loops referring to elevation and azimuth. The research work is divided into three stages. The nonlinearities effects such as torque, inertia and momentum are considered in mathematical modelling using Newton's law and Euler approach. Then, the PID controllers are design while the impact of the base angular velocity and the base angular motion of the gimbal system are investigated for six scenarios. Overall, superior control performances are resulted by PID controller and it was proved by the minimum overshoot and rise time recorded. © 2021 IEEE.

The paper presents a programmable (using a 1-bit signal) digital gate that can operate in one of two OR or AND modes. A circuit of this type can also be implemented using conventional logic gates. However, in the case of the proposed circuit, compared to conventional solutions, the advantage is a much smaller number of transistors necessary for its implementation. Circuit is also much faster than its conventional counterpart. The logic gate was implemented in the 180nm CMOS technology and verified using Hspice simulations. There are many possible applications for this gate, mostly in artificial intelligence and pattern recognition algorithms implemented at the transistor level. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper introduces GLOW-ENV, an intelligent Internet of Everything (IoE)-driven mobile application designed with the objective of integrating real-time glucose monitoring data and environmental metrics to enhance diabetes care and management. The proposed IoE ecosystem integrates a continuous glucose monitoring with a personalized Artificial Intelligence model designed to predict glycemic fluctuations in a near-future. Additionally, GLOW-ENV integrates a rule-based recommendation system to dynamically adapt its suggestions based on contextual glucose and environmental data. Named Data Networking (NDN) is part of an NSF research project that started in 2010 and was created to be implemented as a future Internet architecture. NDN as a network service has evolved from an Internet host-based packet delivery model to an Internet content-based packet delivery model. Attackers design various attacks for NDN networks by exploiting the interaction between interest packets and data packets. IFA is one type of DDoS attack on NDN networks. IFA attackers would overload intermediate routing nodes by requesting a large number of fake Interest packets. In this paper, the interest-flooding attack model is tested by varying the attack time and location of the attacker. The results show that IFA attacks are more effective when the consumer is closer to the producer due to the increased latency resulting from the attack.

Automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems have seen significant advancements in recent years, driven by deep learning and large-scale pre-training methods. However, achieving high accuracy across multiple accents remains a challenging task, especially for languages with rich phonetic diversity like Vietnamese. The Vietnamese language encompasses a wide range of regional accents, each with unique phonetic characteristics that can hinder the performance of conventional ASR. To address this issue, we present a Vietnamese language processing model called Wav2Vn as a novel approach to scalable unsupervised pretraining and adaptation for ASR targeting multiple Vietnamese accents. Our method leverages the power of the Mixture of Experts (MoE) to effectively handle the diverse phonetic variations across different Vietnamese accents. Our results demonstrate a significant performance improvement in terms of word error rate (WER) and robustness to accent variability compared to the current state-of-the-art PhoWhisper.
