The rapid advancement in generated image annotations, also known as captions, puts a crucial need for efficient and automated methods for those annotations’ evaluation. State-of-art in the automatic evaluation metrics has proven to be inefficient for evaluating the quality of the generated annotations because they rely on certain aspects of word matching, such as the n-gram overlap. This paper presents a semantic-based graph representation and evaluation for generated image annotations. The semantic graph explicitly encodes objects, attributes, and natural language annotations relationships, while consulting ConceptNet as an external knowledge source to provide a rich semantic generated graph. For annotations evaluation, the ConceptNet is extended for use in a proposed semantic evaluation metric, whose input is the semantic graphs. Experimental results show that, over the Flickr8k dataset, the proposed graph-based evaluation metric achieves a higher system-level correlation and rank correlation coefficient value compared to existing related works. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Farmers all over the world struggle to fight plant diseases. However, the incorrect use of pesticides can waste time, effort, and money and can also be very harmful to the environment and human health. In this work, we present an empirical study that involves identifying two pathogens related to Cucumbers plant diseases: Powdery Mildew and Alternaria Cucumerina. The study aims to develop a computer-based solution based on deep learning and machine learning algorithms to detect these diseases. To achieve this, a dataset of hundreds of samples was collected from ordinary farms in Beqaa, an agricultural region 15 KM north of Amman, Jordan. Three machine learning models were created in this study using Support Vector Machines (SVM), Logistic Regression (LR), and Multi-layer perceptron algorithms. The constructed models were applied to the dataset after embedding the dataset images using the Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) InceptionV3 pre-trained model. The model was tested and evaluated using cross-evaluation and F1-Score, CA, AUC, Precision, Recall, and Specificity, which all showed excellent results, particularly using the SVM algorithm. The constructed methods are intended to be deployed to farms in their field condition environments using a CCTV system that can capture images of plants during growth, which can help identify plant diseases at that right stage, which would save time, effort, and money and reduce the impact of wrong and overuse of pesticides on consumers and the environment. © 2024 IEEE.

Using WiFi Fingerprinting for indoor positioning is becoming increasingly popular due to its cost-effectiveness. However, to ensure the system can operate with high accuracy and stability, this technique requires a burden of data collection tasks from a dense distribution of reference points (RPs). To decrease the cost of data collection, as well as to improve the WiFi fingerprint database with irregular distribution of RPs, this study applies and compares different interpolation methods. Evaluating these methods in a public dataset including multiple sub-datasets with irregular distributions of RPs, the results highlight the Linear Barycentric interpolation (LB) as the most favorable method due to its low complexity and stable performance. The LB-based fingerprint database achieves an average interpolation error of less than 3 dBm compared to the original one. When applying the interpolated database to positioning tasks, it can help reduce acquisition costs by up to 50% while improving positioning accuracy by up to 11%. The study reveals the feasibility of interpolation in optimizing WiFi fingerprint data collection, especially in large and complex environments where regular distribution of RPs cannot be deployed. © 2024 IEEE.

Federated learning (FL) trains a shared global model by periodically aggregating gradients from local devices. Communication overhead becomes a principal bottleneck in FL since participating devices usually suffer from limited bandwidth and unreliable connections in uplink transmission. To address this problem, the gradient compression methods based on compressed sensing (CS) theory have been put forward recently. However, most existing CS-based works compress gradients independently, ignoring the gradient correlations between participants or adjacent communication rounds, which constrains the achievement of higher compression rates. In view of the above observation, we propose a novel gradient compression scheme named FedDCS, guided by distributed compressed sensing (DCS) theory. Following the design philosophy of separate encoding and joint decoding in DCS, FedDCS compresses gradients for participants in each round separately while reconstructing them at the central server jointly via fully exploiting correlated gradients from the previous round, which are known as side information (SI). Benefiting from this design, reconstruction performance is significantly improved with fewer decoding errors also iterations under the identical compression rate, and the total uploading bits to achieve model convergence are considerably reduced. Theoretical analysis and extensive experiments conducted on MNIST and Fashion-MNIST both verify the effectiveness of our approach. © 2023 IEEE.

Skin cancer's increasing incidence rates necessitate advanced diagnostic tools. This research uses MobileNet architecture to develop an enhanced system for skin cancer detection. MobileNet's efficient CNN architecture, combined with Keras for model lifecycle management and TensorFlow for real-time inference, forms the foundation of this study. Using 10,015 dermatoscopic pictures from seven different classifications of skin cancer in the HAM10000 dataset, the methodology includes several key stages: image preprocessing to correct illumination and adjust resolution, data augmentation to balance the dataset, and model training using Transfer Learning. The MobileNet model was trained over 50 epochs with a comprehensive architecture incorporating multiple specialized layers. By combining large-scale data analysis and adaptive learning, this methodology demonstrates The revolutionary possibilities of AI and ML in improving skin cancer diagnostics and public health outcomes. A lot of metrics and tools have been devised to measure the complexity of software systems. Through measurement, software professionals can have a better understanding and control of a software's complexity. In this paper, we reviewed complexity metrics and tools for object-oriented systems. The existing tools measure either implemented systems which may be source code or compile binaries, or class diagrams. The tools that measure implemented systems already offer a wide variety of features to satisfy different needs. However, the tools that measure class diagrams are not only poor in amount, but all take in class diagram XMI files, with none of them taking in PlantUML class diagram source code. PlantUML is a popular text-based UML diagramming tool that enables users to define UML diagrams with a domain specific language then renders the diagram for them. Hence, we developed a web application that measures class diagram complexity via PlantUML class diagram source code. It measures five class metrics and seven system metrics visualized as tables and bar charts, with the results exportable to PDF and CSV. Our tool's measurements were also evaluated to be correct when it is within our scope of supported syntax. © 2023 IEEE.

The Internet of Drones(IoD)offers synchronized access to organized airspace for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(known as drones).The availability of inexpensive sensors,processors,and wireless communication makes it possible in real time *** several applications comprise IoD in real time environment,significant interest has been received by research *** IoD operates in wireless environment,it is needed to design effective intrusion detection system(IDS)to resolve security issues in the IoD *** article introduces ametaheuristics feature selection with optimal stacked autoencoder based intrusion detection(MFSOSAEID)in the IoD *** major intention of the MFSOSAE-ID technique is to identify the occurrence of intrusions in the IoD *** do so,the proposed MFSOSAE-ID technique firstly pre-processes the input data into a compatible *** addition,the presented MFSOSAEID technique designs a moth flame optimization based feature selection(MFOFS)technique to elect appropriate ***,firefly algorithm(FFA)with stacked autoencoder(SAE)model is employed for the recognition and classification of intrusions in which the SAE parameters are optimally tuned with utilize of *** performance validation of the MFSOSAE-ID model was tested utilizing benchmark dataset and the outcomes implied the promising performance of the MFSOSAE-ID model over other techniques with maximum accuracy of 99.72%.

In this article, a microgrid model with the possibility of adding renewable energy sources is considered. The considered grid is radial and in it the dues of the lines between the individual nodes have been added and the values of the loads have been set. According to a certain methodology, the necessary cross-sections and type of wires are calculated and designed. Different energy sources and energy storage elements can be easily connected to the implemented scheme. For this reason, it is suitable for study by students and doctoral students for a better presentation of the basic principles in the distribution of energy flows in low voltage grids. © 2023 IEEE.

Sport action recognition is an interesting area in computer vision. Categorization of sport actions, representing difficult and complex body postures, is regarded as a fine-grained visual classification problem. The Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have attained enhanced performance over conventional feature descriptors in recognizing various sport activities. In general, though decent improvement has been gained using deep learning for sport action recognition, however, recognition of women’s sport activities is not widely explored. Even, no benchmark dataset depicting women’s sport action with sufficient variations is available yet for study. Hence, fine-grained image classification of diverse sport categories involving female/women athletics requires immediate research attention. To overcome this limitation, this paper proposes an image dataset comprising worldwide popular 50 sport categories of women players only. A simple deep learning model is proposed that extracts the high-level deep features using a backbone CNN. Then, these features are pooled from a collection of regular regions representing local discriminative information. The spatial pyramid pooling is applied for mining semantic information and enhancing feature aggregation for classification. The proposed method has achieved satisfactory performance on the Women Sports dataset using four standard backbone CNNs. Moreover, our method has achieved better accuracy on the Yoga-82 pose recognition dataset with a significant margin, e.g., 11.6% gain using ResNet-50 base CNN. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
