Traditional power system is facing challenges demanding new operational requirements to meet targets of Net Zero Emissions by 2050. Aggregators are playing progressively important role in the demand response (DR) electricity market but are often riddled with deep level of market monopoly and lack of transparency/secrecy. Emerging real-time information technology (IT) applications and novel modelling of digital twins (DT) of individual electricity assets are challenging this position by promising improvements and openness that allows TSO direct access to available demand side flexibility. Additionally, DT technologies are facilitating how demand response services are delivered to end-users by allowing individual assets participation at the atomic level. In this study, the application potentials of assets’ DT in participating in the demand response electricity market was examined. Again, an overview of DT applications for DR was conducted. The novelty of this study is highlighted in development of new approach that facilitates individual end-user assets’ contribution to demand response efforts. The research identifies key useful questions that might serve as inspiration for stakeholders and policy-makers to further close existing gaps in the field of DT, smart-grid and demand response. © 2023 European Union.

The context of reporting on multiple cameras some-what overlaps. The paper solves three problems. The first is to detect pedestrian objects on each camera. The second is to capture and assign IDs to each object on each camera. Finally, unify IDs for objects on all cameras. For object recognition, through the survey and testing process, we chose the YOLOv4 model - a popular model used in object detection. The model was trained with new data, and matched to the pedestrian scene, achieving an accuracy of 95.6%. Continuing with the object tracking operation, we use the DeepSORT algorithm (tracking by detect algorithm) with the main input being the output of YOLOv4 achieving a MOTA of 40.85%. For the final problem, we bring all the objects from the cameras to a common coordinate system, then use the extracted positions and features of the objects to synchronize the IDs across all the cameras and achieve an IDF of 80.2. © 2024 IEEE.

Sentiment analysis is a widely studied area of natural language processing (NLP), however, a lot of attention has been given to languages with higher resources, like English. By concentrating on low-resource African languages including Hausa, Nigerian Pidgin, Igbo, Yoruba, Swahili, and Kinyarwanda for which there is a lack of curated datasets for sophisticated AI applications. This research intends to close the gap by examining the viability of current NLP strategies and creating new ones to meet this challenge. Sentiment analysis enables us to comprehend the feelings and viewpoints expressed in textual information. A transformer-based language model is presented in this research for low-resource African languages in order to classify sentiment and generalize across languages. We fine-tune the XLM-RoBERTa model on Hausa, Nigerian Pidgin, Igbo, and Yoruba, and then assess its performance in these languages as well as Swahili and Kinyarwanda, which the model had not previously seen. Our findings show that, even in languages with few linguistic resources, the model is effective at performing sentiment analysis tasks for known and unknown languages. This research helps close the digital language gap by extending natural language processing capabilities to under-resourced African languages.

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in attention toward emotion detection in text analysis, driven by its broad applications across marketing, political science, psychology, human-computer interaction, and artificial intelligence. This growing interest is primarily due to the critical role of textual expression as a repository of human emotions and sentiments. The development of sophisticated natural language processing (NLP) techniques has emphasized the importance of exploring emotion detection and recognition within textual data. By utilizing a wide range of sources, including social media content, microblogs, news articles, and customer feedback, text mining aims to reveal the underlying emotional currents within the text. However, existing models often struggle to capture the complicated emotional nuances woven into words. Addressing this challenge, the innovative semantic emotion neural network (SENN) architecture has been introduced. The SENN model marks a significant advancement, featuring two synergistic sub-networks: a bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) network that extracts contextual information and a convolutional neural network (CNN) that analyzes and extracts emotional features, highlighting the text's intrinsic emotional connections. The SENN model's performance has been thoroughly evaluated on widely used real-world datasets, benchmarked against Ekman's six fundamental emotions. Results demonstrated its superiority, showing that the SENN model excels in emotion recognition accuracy and quality in conjunction with additional techniques. It also holds potential for enhancement by incorporating more comprehensive emotional word embedding, suggesting a promising future for text-based emotion analysis. Electricity consumers often face the challenge of selecting an optimal plan for saving energy. Strategic energy management and monitoring plays a key role in overcoming these challenges. Developments around Industry 5.0 powered smart grid proffers adequate solutions which allows end-consumers to monitor their energy performance towards effecting demand side recommendation services. Specific problems where end-users are likely to ignore recommended advice exists, thereby contributing to widening 'knowledge-action gap'. An ensemble of hybrid digital twins (DT) asset modelling based on ordinary differential equation (ODE) physics engine and data driven recurrent neural network (RNN) prediction approach alongside PageRank based asset behavior scoring algorithm deployed for demand side recommender and generative pre-trained transformers (GPT) based conversational chatbot technology show effectiveness in engaging and extending end-consumers interests in recommended advice. The novelty of the study lies in extending current scope of demand side recommender scheme via conversational chatbot interface for DT of electricity grid assets that better engage and monitors end-user's energy behavior while offering appropriate energy efficiency advice towards achieving energy conservation goals of smart grid consumers. Extensive experiments, including evaluation of end-user studies, revealed the effectiveness of proposed approach in terms of improved recommendation quality and user engagement towards net electricity demand reduction. © 2023 IEEE.

Anomaly detection is the identification of instances that substantially deviate from the majority of the data and do not conform to a well-defined normal behavior. Investigating time series anomalies has become increasingly popular in recent years due to widely deployed IoT devices and sensors. Although most existing methods apply image anomaly detection algorithms directly on time series and commonly assume the data is IID (independent and identically distributed). However, in most realworld applications, the underlying data distribution alters over time. Changes in data over time are referred to as concept drift and can significantly degrade the efficacy of an anomaly detection model. Existing research also indicates that the majority of anomaly detection frameworks ignored concept drift, resulting in poor long-term model performance. This paper presents an ensemble-based, unsupervised anomaly detection framework that is adaptive to the concept drift in time series data. Both distribution and performance-based techniques are used to detect concept drift and update the model to ensure the framework’s longterm performance reliability. The proposed method is evaluated using a real-world univariate time series data that captures sea surface temperature data over a 2 -year period. By comparing our proposed framework to other state-of-the-art algorithms, we demonstrate our proposed method has obvious benefits in accuracy and long-term stability.

This paper analyses how Quizmaster can be incorporated into the humanoid robot to improve learning processes in educational environments. The humanoid robot incorporates artificial intelligence in its function as an educator and adds a new dimension to the way an interactive learning environment can be achieved in the form of quiz-based learning modules. The current system of Quizmaster has been designed as a separate application but has been modified to work in harmony with the robot and all its hardware and software components. The idea of this integration is to develop an effective learning tool that will help teachers present personalized educational material and evaluate learners' performance immediately. The paper covers the technical changes needed for this integration and the obstacles met while implementing it, as well as possible educational benefits of using robots in classrooms. The effectiveness of the system is established according to the degrees of usability and learners' interest and knowledge gains data gathered from the pilot implementations in differentiated learning contexts. Thus, the results state the positive progress of student's engagement and their knowledge, and it proves how robotics is useful in current education. Thus, this paper provides practical recommendations for expanding research and mass application of robotics-based learning aids in educational organizations.
