Sentiment analysis is a widely studied area of natural language processing (NLP), however, a lot of attention has been given to languages with higher resources, like English. By concentrating on low-resource African languages including Hausa, Nigerian Pidgin, Igbo, Yoruba, Swahili, and Kinyarwanda for which there is a lack of curated datasets for sophisticated AI applications. This research intends to close the gap by examining the viability of current NLP strategies and creating new ones to meet this challenge. Sentiment analysis enables us to comprehend the feelings and viewpoints expressed in textual information. A transformer-based language model is presented in this research for low-resource African languages in order to classify sentiment and generalize across languages. We fine-tune the XLM-RoBERTa model on Hausa, Nigerian Pidgin, Igbo, and Yoruba, and then assess its performance in these languages as well as Swahili and Kinyarwanda, which the model had not previously seen. Our findings show that, even in languages with few linguistic resources, the model is effective at performing sentiment analysis tasks for known and unknown languages. This research helps close the digital language gap by extending natural language processing capabilities to under-resourced African languages.

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in attention toward emotion detection in text analysis, driven by its broad applications across marketing, political science, psychology, human-computer interaction, and artificial intelligence. This growing interest is primarily due to the critical role of textual expression as a repository of human emotions and sentiments. The development of sophisticated natural language processing (NLP) techniques has emphasized the importance of exploring emotion detection and recognition within textual data. By utilizing a wide range of sources, including social media content, microblogs, news articles, and customer feedback, text mining aims to reveal the underlying emotional currents within the text. However, existing models often struggle to capture the complicated emotional nuances woven into words. Addressing this challenge, the innovative semantic emotion neural network (SENN) architecture has been introduced. The SENN model marks a significant advancement, featuring two synergistic sub-networks: a bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) network that extracts contextual information and a convolutional neural network (CNN) that analyzes and extracts emotional features, highlighting the text's intrinsic emotional connections. The SENN model's performance has been thoroughly evaluated on widely used real-world datasets, benchmarked against Ekman's six fundamental emotions. Results demonstrated its superiority, showing that the SENN model excels in emotion recognition accuracy and quality in conjunction with additional techniques. It also holds potential for enhancement by incorporating more comprehensive emotional word embedding, suggesting a promising future for text-based emotion analysis. The next evolution of traditional energy systems towards smart grid will require end-consumers to actively participate and make informed decisions regarding their energy usage. Industry 4.0 facilitates such progress by allowing more advanced analytics and creating means for end-consumers and distributed grid assets to be modelled as their Digital twins (DT) equivalents, paving the way for asset-level analytics. Note-worthily, consumers’ comfort is crucial towards promotion of easy adoption of such models from consumers’ perspectives. This study presents the application of hybrid DT and multiagent reinforcement learning models for real-time estimation of end-consumers future energy behaviors while generating actionable recommendation feedback for improving their energy efficiency and enhancing end-user comfort. © 2023 IEEE European Union.

Anomaly detection is the identification of instances that substantially deviate from the majority of the data and do not conform to a well-defined normal behavior. Investigating time series anomalies has become increasingly popular in recent years due to widely deployed IoT devices and sensors. Although most existing methods apply image anomaly detection algorithms directly on time series and commonly assume the data is IID (independent and identically distributed). However, in most realworld applications, the underlying data distribution alters over time. Changes in data over time are referred to as concept drift and can significantly degrade the efficacy of an anomaly detection model. Existing research also indicates that the majority of anomaly detection frameworks ignored concept drift, resulting in poor long-term model performance. This paper presents an ensemble-based, unsupervised anomaly detection framework that is adaptive to the concept drift in time series data. Both distribution and performance-based techniques are used to detect concept drift and update the model to ensure the framework’s longterm performance reliability. The proposed method is evaluated using a real-world univariate time series data that captures sea surface temperature data over a 2 -year period. By comparing our proposed framework to other state-of-the-art algorithms, we demonstrate our proposed method has obvious benefits in accuracy and long-term stability.

Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have been recently developed, and their advantages can be observed in a wide range of domains, from image processing to face detection. AI-based approaches can assist opponents to enhance their attack strategies while also improving cyber protection technologies. The efficiency of AI techniques against cyber security issues are evaluated. Here, the primary data and a quantitative study design approach is used. The information is then obtained from software industry professionals. The sample size for this study is 549 people, and it included confirmatory factor analysis, discriminant validity testing, model fundamental analysis, and hypothesis evaluation. All variables' P-values were found to be statistical, with the exception of intelligent agents, which had no meaningful relationship to AI or cyber security. The main issues were availability, geographical locations, study population, and other related variables. © 2023 IEEE.

Traditional power system is facing challenges demanding new operational requirements to meet targets of Net Zero Emissions by 2050. Aggregators are playing progressively important role in the demand response (DR) electricity market but are often riddled with deep level of market monopoly and lack of transparency/secrecy. Emerging real-time information technology (IT) applications and novel modelling of digital twins (DT) of individual electricity assets are challenging this position by promising improvements and openness that allows TSO direct access to available demand side flexibility. Additionally, DT technologies are facilitating how demand response services are delivered to end-users by allowing individual assets participation at the atomic level. In this study, the application potentials of assets’ DT in participating in the demand response electricity market was examined. Again, an overview of DT applications for DR was conducted. The novelty of this study is highlighted in development of new approach that facilitates individual end-user assets’ contribution to demand response efforts. The research identifies key useful questions that might serve as inspiration for stakeholders and policy-makers to further close existing gaps in the field of DT, smart-grid and demand response. © 2023 European Union.
