In the process of quality analysis of grains, number counting is one of the key steps for agricultural production. Traditional manual grain counting methods are time-consuming and subject to human error, and automated methods have the potential to improve accuracy and save time. In this study, we aimed to develop an image analysis-based method to automatically quantify the number of grains in a quicker manner. The 576 grain images were collected manually, and labelImg tagging tool used to annotate to generate a text file with their respective positions by drawing bounding boxes manually. The datasets consist were separated into three groups: training, validation, and test. For object detection, the YOLOv5, YOLOv4, and YOLOv3 algorithms represent cutting-edge deep learning frameworks. They replace the tedious and error-prone manual counting process by precisely identifying and counting grains in images obtained from agricultural fields. This technique helps to increase grain counting's precision and effectiveness. We believe this method will be extremely beneficial in guiding the development of high throughput systems for counting the number of grains in other crops as it performs well with a wide range of backgrounds, picture sizes, grain sizes, as well as various quantities of grain crowding. When compared to the other two approaches, YOLOv4 performed well in terms of accuracy, speed, and robustness (97.65%), demonstrating that the suggested strategy is competitive with other cutting-edge deep networkst. © 2023 IEEE.

To directly investigate the dynamic nanoscale phenomenon on the surface being processed in wet conditions such as precision polishing, and cleaning in semiconductor industrial, an optical method for visualization and observation of each sub-100 nm sized particle that is moving on an interface such as a silica glass surface by applying an evanescent field have been proposing. Subsequently, we developed an experimental apparatus equipped with an optical microscopy system for verifying the moving particle observation method in a laboratory scale. This article introduces some experimentally direct observation results of duplicated wet processes. © 2024 IEEE.

Human emotions, psychology, and social well-being are all parts of mental health. It has an impact on how people feel, think, and act. It aids in figuring out how individuals act under pressure, interact with each other, and arrive at decisions. Every period of life, from childhood and adolescence to maturity, is vital for mental health. There are several elements that affect mental health issues, such as experiences with trauma or abuse in life, work-life stress, relationship difficulties, etc. Help is available for many of the mental health issues that are identified within a person. The proposed solution is implementing a friendly chatbot that is capable of capturing human emotional states (happy, angry, sad, etc.) and mental health states (depression, anxiety, stress, etc.) using human computer interaction and health record management. The proposed solution has been developed by considering both regular users and mental health practitioners. The user can communicate with the proposed assistant using text or voice to identify their emotions and mental health based on keywords, particular characteristics of voice and facial recognition used during the conversation. Once the mental health and emotion statuses are analyzed the electronic health records will be readily available on the blockchain as blockchain tokens, this could be shared with the practitioners securely.

After an era of huge propagation within the field of mobile communications, digitalization has been spreading during the latest years at an accelerating speed to automotive technology and business. Following the developments experienced earlier in the mobile communications branch, open solutions and platforms are emerging in the automotive industries, challenging the traditional proprietary systems. Like in mobile communications, open platforms enable development of a wide variety of novel applications and systems that speed up the digitalization of the automotive and traffic ecosystems and offer the developers new attractive business opportunities. One of such open approaches is the Eclipse Kuksa framework developed in a consortium of European research institutions and automotive industries. In this study, we explored how the Kuksa framework could be used as a technology basis for an automotive data system combining in-vehicle functionality to cloud-based services. The study was carried out as a part of the SMAD research project of the University of Oulu aiming at an intelligent moving test platform for research of autonomous vehicles built on top of a Toyota Rav4 hybrid car. Our study covered subsystems of the Kuksa framework, the in-vehicle subsystem, cloud subsystems and the data communications between them. Our results indicate that the Kuksa framework is a feasible basis for the development of open, intelligent automotive data systems, though with a considerable learning needs. The results and experiences of our study provide besides additional knowledge for our continuing research on automotive software, also new, valuable contribution to the Eclipse Kuksa community and the practitioners planning to deploy open approaches in their automotive software development. Balancing the consistency of style and the integrity of content is the main challenge in arbitrary style transfer domain. Currently, local style details can be effectively captured by attention mechanism but easily produce distorted style patterns and inconsistent content structure. In this paper, we propose a Content Affinity Preserving Arbitrary Style Transfer (CAPAST) framework to ensure style features can be stably integrated into the content structure. Considering the local feature learning ability of CNN and the global feature representation advantage of transformer, a dual encoder is proposed to capture local and global features of images with the combination between transformer and CNN. In addition, a channel and spatially aligned attention (CSAA) is introduced to generate high-quality results by stably fusing style features and content features. In experiments, we demonstrated the superior performance of our method in preventing content structure distortion and maintaining consistency between style and content. Essential proteins play an essential role in cell survival and replication. Currently, more and more computational methods are developed to identify essential proteins, which overcome the time-consuming, costly and inefficient shortcomings with biological experimental methods. In order to improve the recognition rate, some new methods by fusing multiple features are developed, but they seldom consider the connection among features. After analyzing a large number of methods based on multi-feature fusion, a weak consensus model to fuse features is proposed in this paper. Then, this paper uses the weak consensus model to fuse protein-protein interaction network, gene expression data, and orthologous data, thus proposing a new method, WOL. Then experiments are performed on one *** dataset. The results show that compared with WDC, PeC, ION, JDC, NCCO and E_POC, WOL has a higher recognition rate. © 2023 IEEE.

Network programming is the act of writing computer codes for communications between programs or processes in different computers across networks. It is crucial for applications and services using networks, including e-commerce, gaming, and social media. However, university courses of educating it are very limited. As a result, it has become important to develop and offer IT tools to support self-studies of network programming by novices. In this paper, we present a study of two types of introductory exercise problems, namely, Grammar-concept Understanding Problem (GUP) and Comment Insertion Problem (CIP), for self-studies of five basic network protocols of TCP/IP, ARP, SMTP, POP3, and SSH with Python. A GUP instance requests to answer the keyword such as a library function in the given source code that corresponds to the grammar concept described in the question. A CIP instance requests to insert the comment at each blank of the code. String matching is adopted to mark any answer at the browser-based answer interface. Through solving them, it is expected to understand the meaning of important words and the code structure for network programming. As preliminary evaluations, we generated six GUP and CIP instances respectively, and assigned them to 10 students in Okayama University, Japan. The results confirmed that the proposal is proper for novices to learn network programming with Python. © 2023 ACM.

This paper proposes a framework that has the ability to animate and generate different scenarios for the mobility of a movable anchor which can follow various paths in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). When the researchers use NS-2 to simulate a single anchor-assisted localization model, they face the problem of creating the movement file of the movable anchor. The proposed framework solved this problem by allowing them to create the movement scenario regarding different trajectories. The proposed framework lets the researcher set the needed parameters for simulating various static path models, which can be displayed through the graphical user interface. The researcher can also view the mobility of the movable anchor with control of its speed and communication range. The proposed framework has been validated by comparing its results to NS-2 outputs plus comparing it against existing tools. Finally, this framework has been published on the Code Project website and downloaded by many users. © 2024, CC BY.

Satellite images that are publicly available on the internet such as Google Maps are mostly low-quality and blurry which is not very useful for research or decision-making due to the lack of details. Recently image upscaling has been increasing in popularity to address several real-world problems where one approach is using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). However, CNNs have difficulty in restoring fine details and this has led to the use of Generative adversarial networks (GANs) for image scaling. In this paper, three GAN models are trained which are Enhanced Super-Resolution Generative Adversarial Networks (Real-ESRGAN), Image Restoration Using Swin Transformer (SwinIR-Medium), and Dual Aggregation Transformer (DAT-2). The models are evaluated with well-known image metrics to determine each model's effectiveness in upscaling low-resolution satellite images. The results show that all models can reconstruct the image to some degree where the best out of the three is DAT-2. Further fine-tuning of the best model by changing the loss functions has shown improvements in structural integrity for the upscaled image. © 2024 IEEE.

Advancing respiratory disease diagnosis: A deep learning and vision transformer-based approach with a novel X-ray dataset

With the increasing prevalence of respiratory diseases such as pneumonia and COVID-19, timely and accurate diagnosis is critical. This paper makes significant contributions to the field of respiratory disease classification by utilizing X-ray images and advanced machine learning techniques such as deep learning (DL) and Vision Transformers (ViT). First, the paper systematically reviews the current diagnostic methodologies, analyzing the recent advancement in DL and ViT techniques through a comprehensive analysis of the review articles published between 2017 and 2024, excluding short reviews and overviews. The review not only analyses the existing knowledge but also identifies the critical gaps in the field as well as the lack of diversity of the comprehensive and diverse datasets for training the machine learning models. To address such limitations, the paper extensively evaluates DL-based models on publicly available datasets, analyzing key performance metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. Our evaluations reveal that the current datasets are mostly limited to the narrow subsets of pulmonary diseases, which might lead to some challenges, including overfitting, poor generalization, and reduced possibility of using advanced machine learning techniques in real-world applications. For instance, DL and ViT models require extensive data for effective learning. The primary contribution of this paper is not only the review of the most recent articles and surveys of respiratory diseases and DL models, including ViT, but also introduces a novel, diverse dataset comprising 7867 X-ray images from 5263 patients across three local hospitals, covering 49 distinct pulmonary diseases. The dataset is expected to enhance DL and ViT model training and improve the generalization of those models in various real-world medical image scenarios.
